An get a model printed and make you a new retainer of you can send me a stone model, I will convert it to a digital model first then use the stone mode to make the retainer. Email me on denver@fastorthodontics.com.au to discuss further.

    How come you don't put an extra thin layer of block-out resin (sometimes blue color) on the outside of the teeth so there is enough extra space for the whitening material ?

    • @kevinluc495
      @kevinluc495 7 лет назад +31

      Then it would not be for teeth bleaching, which I was referring to.

    • @FastOrthodontics
      @FastOrthodontics  7 лет назад +24

      Hi Gung
      I do it for a couple of reasons which are; the patient has to use less gel and I have found that it has no impact on the whitening result as only a very small amount will diffuse into the tooth enamel as well.
      I do sometimes place some spacer as a reservoir from the incisal edge down to 2-3mm above the DEJ and mesio-distally confine it to the flat area do not take it beyond the mesial and distal line angles onto the curved surface of these areas. I only do this if the patient needs extra whitening on some teeth, I very rarely do it.
      For the spacer I use a small flat ended camel hair art brush, to apply a very thin layer of some dental plaster which I mix up as a runny slurry and paint it onto a dry model, works great and is very cost effective.
      I hope that helps
      Cheers Denver

    Why can't the mould be pre-shaped to the shape in which you are cutting it at later stage? That way the retainers will be thicker and more durable because the material wouldn't stretch out on the whole thing thereby thinning the final product.

    Is there another way of melting the plastic that precise way? Had braces for 4years ,got them off and my retainers broke 6mnths ago,was caught up with things and couldn't go so my teeth shifted a bit. My dentist is asking me for 500$. I don't mind but I'm having a jaw surgery somewhere at the end of the year. I just need something to hold my teeth together while i wait. I already have the impression of my teeth. Plus I bought the clear plastic I just can't find a dentist who'll charge me for the use of a machine by plugging it. Lol is there another heating system that can be use?

    • @FastOrthodontics
      @FastOrthodontics  7 лет назад +14

      Unfortunately you not only need heating you also need pressure to mold the plastic. I have a cheap Chinese machine that does apply the heat and uses vacuum to mold the heated plastic but is is not as accurate as pressure forming. The Chinese machine can be purchased through Ebay the details are eBay item number:182128430556 and it is called Dental Lab Vacuum Forming & Molding Former Thermoforming Material Machine JT-18. But you need square plastic blanks and you need to know how to operate it.

      Hi Charlotte
      Thanks for the link there are so many things that can go wrong with impressions, I would be dubious about getting this done, best bet is to find someone to take a digital scan of your teeth or better still get your orthodontic dentist to scan your teeth and provide you with the soft copy file. You could send to me and I could can get it printed and make the retainer for you, the first one will cost $150 AUD plus shipping, but after that I can make more retainers at a cost of $60 plus shipping for each retainer.
      Thanks
      Dr Maloney

    My retainers broke so I got some new ones last week. It’s been a week and I’ve just realised my dentist cut my retainers and the top bit of the retainer is too low therefore the top of my tooth is covered with the retainer. Is this okay or would I need to go back? I’m so worried.

    Hello I have a question. Is it normal for a dental clinic not to give their patients a retainer for 10 days after taking their braces off. Mine took 10 days and in that time my teeth shifted quite a lot, there’re literally gaps between my bottom front teeth and my retainers don’t even fit. What should i do?

  • @marielkean4376
    @marielkean4376 Год назад

    Do you block out excessive undercuts in the model before making the retainer? My retainer was digging into my gums and causing blanching so I had my orthodontist re-do it and block out some of those areas but it still does this (although not as bad as before).

    I have a retainer for applying fluoride gel that I also use for at-home bleaching. I am thinking about getting Invisalign (or equal clear aligners). Could I use the aligners for both these purposes and could I just keep the last aligner to use as a bleaching tray after the treatnent? Because by then obviously the tray/retainer I have now obviously won't fit anymore. Alternatively: The one I have now is made of a flexible thermoplast. Could I give it to someone to have it reformed to the new position of my teeth?

And right now my top front tooth is protruding out a little from the symmetrical circular shape. Can I request my dentist to adjust the model of my teeth to the symmetrical circular shape before hardening the model and fitting the retainer so that it can get back to its original position?

    • @FastOrthodontics
      @FastOrthodontics  2 года назад +1

      Hi Luisana. I would use block-out material to remove undercuts on the wire and composite bonding pads, plus use block-out material to create an approximately 0.25 mm space over the wire and bonding pads. The objective is to not allow the removable retainer material to exert any direct force on the wire or bonding pads.
      I hope that helps!

    Do you have to get new impressions done every time you need a new retainer? Thanks

    • @FastOrthodontics
      @FastOrthodontics  2 года назад

      Great question; when using stone models, the answer is yes, as the model breaks when taking the retainer off the model. However, I use the process now to get a digital impression and save it to the patient file. When my patient needs a new retainer, I send the digital model to be printed and then make the replacement retainer on the printed model. The fantastic news is, the printed model does not break when removing the newly formed retainer, so I can make many retainers using a printed model.
      I do the scans at no additional charge to the patient. I then charge $60 to get the model printed and $60 to make a retainer using the printed model.
      I hope that helps with your inquiry.

      The cost is a function of cost recovery plus profit. The cost of running a average dental practice would be a min of around $250-$300 per hour before the dentist starts to take money home for his/her family.
