Prince John seems like an bullet sponge that everyone goes after while another villain slowly takes over because no one realizes how powerful they've become.
Except while you are riddling John full of holes you don't realize you aren't really hurting him, just moving his power around. then he centralizes it all in a few turns and bam HE was the quiet villain no on realized was so powerful! muhahaha
As one who uses Prince John. He's good imo if u can set up defenses. If robin hood is the first fate before u get it set up. Yeah it's gonna be a rough go lol. They did him a huge favor by not playing robin hood lol. I mean they knew his objective was to gain power. Robinhood makes him earn 1 less any time he earns.

Maleficent also had a few slides too. One of her curse cards if she places her character on there gets discarded and she did it like 3 times but nobody paid attention 😂. I thought the person who was playing Jafar saw but nobody worried about it lol
I just recently bought and played this game tonight and it was confusing at first but seeing this video and the rules video have helped a lot on understanding the game.
Prince John has some fascinating design. Having a hero in the jail gives no drawbacks, meaning John can use move effects to essentially ignore any heroes. His fate deck is built in such a way however, that this isn't always the best option. Cards that steal power incentivise defeating them properly.
I wish people could better present some of these tabletop games. Not a lot of people put effort into presenting games property, and such a shame when it's a popular game.
53:12 - Marisha (probably inadvertently) cheated here. She moved Male50Cent to Briar Rose's cottage, where the curse "green fire" was. This curse however has to be removed, if the villan moves there, which Marisha never did. But since nobody at the table caught it, this just falls under rule number one of all gaming: What's done is done.

Five years later, I know, but just have to point out, when Maleficent moved to the spots she'd cursed previously, she should have discarded those curses, at least that's what the Curse cards themselves say
At 25:00 , the Abu card states that he grabs an Item from HIS location and not A location. So Abu would have to have been played to the same spot as Razoul. Outcome would probably have been the same but Razoul wouldn't have been moved.
Expansion/Stand called "Wicked to the Core" is going to have Evil Queen (Snow White), Hades (Hercules), & Dr. Facilier (Princess and the Frog). Set to be release March 3rd .
To be fair it was their first time playing, it’s a pretty easy mistake to make. There’s a lot of rules to keep straight if someone isn’t constantly pointing out.
1) Slight Tactical Advice, when playing the Cheshire Cat, the Card Guard at its location should have been left in wicket mode. This forces the Red Queen to spend power to switch the card guard to combat mode to fight the Cheshire Cat, this means no matter what multiple turns had to be spent moving to activate the ability to switch stances, either to fight, or to avoid fighting. 2) Found it interesting the Prince John won BECAUSE King Richard showed up. 3) Should have disguised Lady Cluck, not Maid Marian
Captain Hook: How is everyone's power doing? Prince John: Can we not talk about that? Queen of Hearts: Oh I am doing great! I have about 20- Prince John: CAN WE NOT TALK ABOUT THAT
Just rewatched this. The discard cards action can be used to discard multiple cards if wanted. This can help cycle through the deck to get the cards you need much faster.
This is a great game but there is imo a ridiculously huge learning curve. After a few games I have some takeaways. 1. Play and go through as many cards as possible in order to reach the objective. 2. Play fate as often as possible to prevent players from winning. Matt says toward the end of the video that it is very draw dependent. Again I think playing or discarding cards in order to get to the objective makes it possible. It’s a pain in the ass but I think it’ll make more sense with more games. Overall I think with more play throughs the smaller rules and play style of the game will make it more enjoyable. I know I repeated myself a lot but those were some major things that I found after feeling like an idiot my first few games. Thanks
Matt explained where the Hamster Dance came from, and my poor brain is freaking out. I loved watching Robin Hood. And I liked that song when I was a little older. And I never made the connection until now.
I said to myself I was going to be a dick and not watch the full play through unless Little John was played. Then they threw in Mercer so I guess I need to stay. Edit after watching: I was real sad for most of the game and then the end occurred and I was no longer sad.
Evil Reani, Evil Gilmore, and Evil Keyleth are amazing! I love this game and I hope they play the expansions in the future. And that Becca Scott and B. Dave Walters guest star on Critical Role!
Love the cast, the episode was amazing, everyone played very well, 99% chance that I'm going to get this but the balancing issues with some of the characters could be a bit frustrating. Jafar seems very high risk high reward because as Matt said, if you get all the cards at the beginning you can coast but if not, there is not much you can do. I know it was said that there are faster ways you can do it but there seemed to be almost nothing that could be done in this one and that is concerning (guess I'll just have to see). Also, hook seems a bit off due to the movement aspect but I imagine if they give him 2 movement spaces then he is unbalanced (too overpowered). I understand that some villains are probably going to be a bit more difficult no matter what but this is something to keep an eye on while playing I guess. Other than that, the game is amazing and I very much agree that I do enjoy how they integrated everything and made it feel individualized. Also, very interested to see how ursula plays as well!
Jafar is one of the more advanced characters and requires a different mindset. People tend to want to hold onto cards they think they'll need eventually rather than dig aggressively for the cards you need right now and Jafar is all about sacrifices. So B. Dave was behind because he needed to use his discard space more aggressively and he probably would have been in the running. A lot of this information is included in the guides for each villain that come with the game. Captain Hook has other ways to move Peter Pan that weren't included in the video. While he only has one movement space on his board, he can add another with the card Ingenious Device, and he has a pirate, Mr. Starkey, who moves a Hero when he comes into play, so he does have more tools than just the one space on his board. Ursula plays very different from the other characters because she doesn't have very many Allies (only Flotsam and Jetsam) so rather than the Vanquish action she utilizes Binding Contracts to play on Heroes. The Contracts all specify a location and you attach them to Heroes and then move them to those locations to defeat them by turning them into polyps.
Jafar not that hard, you just have to burn through your deck with discard until you get the pendant. But compared to the others it is more advanced. I've felt that Ursula and Jafar were the hardest along with Hook.
Yeah with this game you do need someone to act as a reff because there are a LOT of rules to keep straight. A lot of the mistakes I can’t begrudge because I’ve seen those happen A LOT while playing.
How fitting that Matthew Mercer is playing as Prince John, since he voiced a royal role (Prince Demande). Glad I stumbled upon this, it looks like fun. I hope Oogie Boogie, the Sanderson Sisters, the Horned King, Professor Ratigan, and/or Dr. Facilier join the game soon. Ha, B. Dave Walters looks and sounds like he'd make a great Jafar, and I absolutely adore everyone's attire for their characters. Thanks for making me smile with your little moments for your takes on your characters, all four of you.
This game was actually so confusing at the beginning and the video they provided in the instructions wasn’t helpful at all, but after we started playing it and got into it, the game is actually really fun!! For those who might be having trouble understanding the game play or are discouraged, play the game, and make sure to read the instructions manual as you go to get a better understanding of what each item means. We found that playing and reading the manual if we got confused helped a lot and we ended up enjoying the game!
Matt came back with a vengeance! Everyone did the mistake of trying to take his coins away or fating him but should have been paying attention to the cards he was setting up for the win! Good Game!
I didn't know that Matt & Mica were on this! Good costumes I guess. I've passed this up before b/c I didn't think I would want to watch it but being stuck inside for 5 months really makes you sort out your priorities and what you haven't watched yet. I've wanted this game for ages so that helps too.

Gf and I watched this video together and instantly ordered it XD
The editing are just spot on. Love it! hope you keep up the good style. :)
I love this whole group and was not expecting Mica
ikr
Mica was also the G&S show Lore Masters talking about Kingdom Hearts!
These are getting better and better. Loved this episode!
Captain Hook: How is everyone's power doing?
Prince John: Can we not talk about that?
Queen of Hearts: Oh I am doing great! I have about 20-
Prince John: CAN WE NOT TALK ABOUT THAT
She has about 20 because she hasn't been spending any when she was supposed to.
53 minute, she should have discarded that curse!
bartoix1 I know right
I know!!!
they let her get away with everything
PENALTY! TAXATION!
When I played with my family, someone put a King Hubert on my thorn curse, but that shouldn't have been possible, in hindsight. :/
I realized that too
MICA & MATT & BECCA!!!! Best Game The Game this year.(so far...muhahahahahaha)
AND MARISHA.... AND B DAVE!!!! (Didnt wanna leave them out because this is such a great episode.)
48:39 Matt winks at Marisha, adorable!
Thanks
LOLOL I loved Becca's Rick and Morty reference at 46:03.
Matt explained where the Hamster Dance came from, and my poor brain is freaking out. I loved watching Robin Hood. And I liked that song when I was a little older. And I never made the connection until now.
I absolutely love this game so much I have all of the expansions. I’m really excited for the Bigger and Badder expansion with Syndrome!
I said to myself I was going to be a dick and not watch the full play through unless Little John was played. Then they threw in Mercer so I guess I need to stay.
Edit after watching: I was real sad for most of the game and then the end occurred and I was no longer sad.
Great play! Maleficent didn't discard the fire curse after going there though, I caught that.
There were frankly a few mistakes and a lot of missed opportunities but it really isn't fair to armchair QB games like this.
@@JohnVanderbeck i just wanted to point out a cool detail I observed. You are putting negativity in some comment that doesn't incite it.
Evil Reani, Evil Gilmore, and Evil Keyleth are amazing!
I love this game and I hope they play the expansions in the future.
And that Becca Scott and B. Dave Walters guest star on Critical Role!
Just found out a new expansion set is coming out! It features Cruella De Vil, Mother Gothel and Pete.
I watched the whole thing. So much fun! I am getting this game for sure. Thanks for this video!!!
21:00 Mica & Matt: YOU JUST ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD!
19:18s editing was amazing
Wait, Maleficent should've discarded her curse when she landed on her curse! We need a referee!!
Would be nice
Mercer also played Prince Chrom from Fire Emblem and Ryoma. Hes just good at playing royalty.
@@monomoonchild8066 Absolutely. He made me smile here. :D
I like the Queen of Hearts accept her design in the cards and movies. Also invite them to another game the game please. Love you!!!
"All goons look the same to me" lol this episode is great. Ordering this game right now
Matt came back with a vengeance!
