Amanos really are greedy for food. I once saw two of mine engaged in a tug of war over a wafer one of them had stolen from the fish. I could almost hear tiny voices yelling "It's mine! It's mine!" :D
Well, you were spot on and I was a day late. Bought some Amano shrimp yesterday and sure enough, found one dead on the floor today. I could have cried. Fish keeping is profoundly humbling.
This is a VERY interesting presentation, and thank you soooo much!!! Mine is being flown in so I'm trying to learn as much as possible before they arrive. Thumbs up and I wish you all the best!!!
I actually have amano shrimp in my community tank (guppies, a female beta, and tetras) and the shrimp have been doing great! I also have six in my 25 gallon aquarium and they are happy and healthy. I was sad to find out they only really live up to 4 years but they actually have been around longer. My male to female ratio is 2 to 4 males. Constantly breeding but I don't have time to raise the fry :( Thank you for your wonderful video!!!! P.S YES they eat PEAS like MAD. They grab the entire thing and eat at it like it is NOTHING!
Five years ago when I started back in the hobby I bought three amanos. Next day I found two dead. No not dead as they had mysterious appeared three days later. Just as you said they had molted.I was very happyI have gone on to raising cherry shrimp since then and breeding albino cats, German Blue rams, and dwarfs rainbows. All were by letting the fish do their own thing by accident except for the Rams which I purchased as a breeding pair.
@@GirlTalksFish yeah they seem to be doing fine had them for nearly a year there's only two in there, maybe check my channel out its the 125 community tank
I’m in process of switching a 20 GAL. Cichlids tank to nothing but some red/blue Colombian tetras. Tank is almost cycled. I removed everything, especially the crushed coral, and started over. I plan to add about 10 of these tetras. Having a little trouble getting PH below about 7.8,but just added some driftwood, also a few plants. My questions.... what do you think of these tetras? And what’s a good tankmate bottom cleaner. I’m done with dirty piecos. Thanks !!! Hope you see this. I like your no nonsense videos.
These are really entertaining shrimp!! I had a pair with my giant betta (no, it did not work out ☹️) and I swear I lost them. Turns out, when lights were on they’d hide ON TOP of the floating Salvinia to hide from the betta!!! They’d just surf on the surface until they can come out at night LOL Put them in another tank to rescue them. Then they made it a game to climb up the outflow of the HOB filter and give me mini heart attacks 😤 unfortunately, they eventually escaped the tank so RIP to the shrimp versions of Bonnie and Clyde 😭
My female guppy is perfectly fine with the Armano shrimp in the tank. Also mine haven’t ever tried to escape. It’s basically a shrimp only tank. I had two in the tank for two and a half months and recently added in 4 more
I've had 5 amanos in a 5 gallon planted tank for nearly a year now and they are thriving. Currently their only tank mates are a mystery snail, a tiny rabbit snail and oodles of those itty bitty snails... I'd love to add some green neon tetras but fear overloading, thoughts?
I have 5 green neons in a 5 gallon planted tank with a few ramshorn snails and a couple cherry shrimp, and everyone does great. I make sure to do plenty of water changes and my water lettuce floating on top also helps remove a lot of nitrates.
I have ghost shrimp, they live with my female betta and a school of neon and glowlight tetras. They do fine and nobody is eating each other. The betta even schools with the tetras sometimes. I recently also got a male betta I want to get tank mates for later. I didn't think they could see each other at first. But when I called my mom on my break she showed me the bettas were flaring at each other. The funny part was the tetras were also showing interest to the male until my mom put the phone closer to the female tank and she swim away. The tetras went there own direction a few seconds later. We put cardboard on the sides of the tanks because the female started hitting the glass to try to get to the male.
I have 2 fancy goldfish a blackmoor 2 zebra Danio and 4 white cloud mountain minnows living with 2 amano shrimp they have been in there over 3 years now, the temperature in my house is within both of there types of species range they like 👍
Oh that explains a lot. I had a cherry shrimp not to long ago and I would check on him often but one day he was gone. (My tank lid was not securely put on)
Love aminos! I used to have one but he died a week ago, I believe you can have a betta with one but I suggest have a few of them that way they don’t see them ass food
I made sure to get algae tablets for my amano because I don’t have algae problems. He would get to them SO fast no matter where I dropped them in the tank. He didn’t play around when it came to food. None of the other smaller shrimp would try to steal his food. 😂 Sadly, one day I found him on the floor 2 FEET away from the tank!
If mine keeps eggs for 2 week, when should i transfer it to the breeding box, how long is it ok to leave the larvae in freshwater and how the waterchages go if the larvae are like 0,5 mm big? sorry for that too much questions, but i killed 2 batches and i wont let that happen again
I bought most of mine from an employee at my favorite fish store, I’ve lost 2. One was murdered by the others. They pushed a rock and it landed on one, he died later. The Honey gourami decided to eat one when I was stuck at my grandparents house for the week and couldn’t go and feed him. I kept them originally in a 5 gallon tank with two guppies, they never climbed out. They loved the rock pile along the side of the tank.
I have 3 in my 20 gallon tank, I have a beta and 7 glow fish and I just ordered 11 Amano cause that's how the shop sells them so I will add 5 more to my tank and take the other 6 to this mom and pop pet store and trade them for more live plants!

How should I go about testing new food material and whatnot while not worrying about harming the shrimp? (I’ve just found out about this fantastic world of shrimp)
I bought 2 amanos and the next day I searched the entire tank and couldn't find them. Then after a while, I was sitting beside my tank and saw both of them hiding in a small gap where the suction cups are on my internal filter.
Hi I have a question I have a 10 gallon with a giant betta and 5 Amano shrimp. 2 of them were rlly small and I’m pretty sure the betta ate them. The other 3 are a lot bigger but don’t really come out. This is probably because they’re scared of my betta right?
I love my ammonos! They are in-freaking-destructable! I hear they are wild caught, but thankfully without environmental impact and that they have dense populations. Thus their genetics have not been sunk by inbreeding. I find that I hardly have to feed them at all. They eat most any alage etc in the tank. I have found, too that more space is needed if you have a betta fish. Otherwise, there is not enough space to establish territories. The humorous (but gross) thing I see lol is when they clean themselves by putting their tail into their own backside...eww..but oddly hilarous to see haha It's fascinating how you can see right inside of them! I so highly enjoy them and recommend them!
I just bought some ember tetras and there’s a little amano shrimp in the bag with them. I do not have a tight fitting lid and I don’t know how it will do with my other fish :S Guess I’ll find out lol
Aggressive eaters all right, I have to hand feed my African Dwarf frogs every now and then with tweezers, because the Amano shrimp will snatch anything and everything the frogs try to swallow, (they have even snatch the blood worms from my tweezers the little buggers). Lol when I got the frogs, I originally wanted cherry shrimp in that tank, but the chap at the store advised to get Amano's as the frogs could potentially eat the cherries. Now I think the cherries would have been fine, but I'm glad as I love the Amano's, even if they are... unpolite.
I have been told that you can’t keep them in regular tap water. Do you do anything special to the water in order to make it safe for them? I really want some shrimp when I set up my 20g long... !
I haven't tried it before, but it looks like people have had luck with mollies and amano shrimp. Not sure about fast current, but maybe if you add lots of cover or plants, they'll have places to hang out that have slower flow.
