    omg katie, you don’t know how much I needed this video right now. I’m currently trialing flutes looking to find my “forever” flute and have been feeling very bad that gold is not in my budget. Seeing you play on a rose gold flute for so long made me want a gold one for so long, but seeing you now say that silver is still an amazing way to go and that it’s what you prefer right now in your life makes me feel better about playing on silver flutes and hopefully purchasing a new one eventually❤❤

    • @dianneason
      @dianneason Месяц назад +3

      Hang in there and keep on trying flutes until one of the flutes very clearly chooses you. When I went through the FCNY trial process, I too thought about Katie's rose gold flute but it just wasn't in my budget. I tried maybe eleven flutes and then picked up a silver Di Zhao and that flute didn't just speak to me, it yelled at me, "Here I am! I'm your flute!"
      This will happen to you too. I KNOW it will.
      Another thing I hadn't considered until Lauren from FCNY mentioned it was trying different headjoints. While I couldn't afford a gold flute, I could manage to get a headjoint with a 14k gold lip plate and riser and wow! What a difference that made (for me) as far as tone quality goes. You have TONS of options and PLENTY of reasons to be hopeful and excited!!
      Good luck to you! ❤

    I bought a new flute back in May of this year. It’s my first gold flute, a Powell 9k Aurumite! It’s pre-owned and I knew it would be my forever flute after my Azumi 3 I’ve had since my sophomore year of high school - I love the sound possibilities of a gold and silver combo. She plays like a dream 🩷🩷

    I play an Altus 1207 which is solid silver. I love it! I couldn't afford a solid silver brand new flute and bought this one secondhand. The chap I bought it from has turned out to be the best flute teacher I have had and has opened up a whole new world of sound colours and tones for me that I never thought I would be able to produce, but on this flute the possibilities seem endless! ❤

      I'd love a solid-silver Altus, or Sankyo, at a later date. ❤

    I ordered my Muramatsu DS heavy wall back in Feb! It took 9 months to make as I commissioned it with closed holes (as I have tiny hands). Like you I tried many different flutes and this one felt right, the heavy wall makes the sound so rich. My husband got the mouthpiece engraved as an extra surprise.

    I play the clarinet, and I am a beginner again, after 18 years of not playing. I have a Jupiter student clarinet that I really enjoy. I miss my clarinet from back in the day, though, that I unfortunately gave away and regret now. It was a Vito LeBlanc. I've never played an intermediate or professional instrument. But I LOVE your new flute. I remember your vlog with the Powell flute sparking your interest. Congratulations on your new Muramatsu! I really enjoy your channel, I found you through the cheap pink flute videos and have been watching you ever since!

    I recently bought my Miyazawa 602 with the full Brögger mechanism, which is to DIE for. It is the 958 silver with a gold riser and it’s dreamy. It’s the closest sound I can get to a solid gold flute without paying for solid gold, I feel.

    • @impractical1158
      @impractical1158 Месяц назад

      omg that’s amazing for you!! I’m going to be trying out a 602 very soon hopefully (on a waitlist rn) but that’s very good to hear that you like them. Have you ever tried playing on a miyazawa vision and if so was there that much of a difference? I’m really trying to decide whether or not it’s worth the price to go full silver mechanism or just plated.

    • @Jenifer.flute20
      @Jenifer.flute20 Месяц назад

      @@impractical1158 I didn’t trial a Vision next to the 602 so I can’t say anything in comparison, but the 602 has such a gorgeous sound that I don’t think solid sterling keys would matter.

    I also did buy a new flute a week ago. I've played for years on a Yamaha student model flute and I also tried many different instruments - Powell, Haynes, Sankyo, Muramatsu etc. In the end I ended up buying a used Muramatsu GX standard model for 5.200€ (bought in September 2023 at Just Flutes London) instead for at least 6.800€ brand new.

    Congratulations on your new Muramatsu, Katie! 🥳 It sounds like the perfect flute chose you! ❤ I got a flute from FCNY back in March and LOVED the trial process. I tried all silver flutes, but also tried some headjoints with 14k gold lip plates and risers and noticed SUCH a difference in tone quality with those.
    I did try a Muramatsu, but it didn't choose me. A Di Zhao VERY CLEARLY did (I'd never even heard of that brand before) and, along with a headjoint with the 14k gold lip plate and riser, we've been living happily ever after ever since! Big shout out to Lauren from FCNY. She's AMAZING to work with! ❤

    I have the exact same flute and love it. I am a pretty accomplished amateur flutist and continue to take lessons from a teacher who encouraged me to get a new flute. I teach and gig in my little town. It is heavier than my Jack Moore flute which is also a wonderful flute which I have a gold JM head joint and a silver one. It is my back up. But my main one is my Muramatsu DS. I call it the Big M.

    Finally! I’ve been dying to find out about your flute! I also play on a Muramatsu DS. All the same features but I did not get the heavy wall. I tried both and ultimately chose the regular. I did get the tsubasa headjoint and I don’t think I even tried the regular one. I was looking for a darker sound and that was what was recommended to me. Now I wish I would have tried it.

    Congratulations on your new flute. Hope you love playing it. I have a Nagahara 950 silver with 18k riser on the headjoint, B foot, inline G, .016 wall. Bought in 2003. My backup is a Haynes (Deveau model) from 1982 (inline G, B foor, .014 wall). My first Haynes from 1968 (Fall of my senior year in high school) was stolen in a burglary in 1982. I can barely play my Haynes. Guess it needs some work after someone (not Flute Center) did a nothing COA on it in 2018. I love the Flute Center for repairs.

    Hey awesome video 😊 I have an Emerson silver I’ve had it since 1992 it’s special cause my mom got it and a artly(it was my aunt and the first flute I ever played on it’s nickel I think and it’s over 60years old) the sad part of my story is I lost the feeling and dexterity in my hands. So I’m having to relearn how to play. Both flutes are beautiful. One day I will buy myself a new one just don’t know which one lol have a great day.

    Thank you Katie for sharing! it´s always so fun to be "nerdie" about flutes 🤓😁 I also love the Muramatsu flutes. I play a gold and a silver. Personally I do prefer the gold as I feel I have more resistence and a bigger color palette on it. When I was in Tokyo I visited the Yamaha flagship store. 8 storie building .. I tried a 14 k Yamaha.. wow! I could see the danger of becoming a flute collector if I had the money.. hahaha..

    Super curious if yours is an SR or the DS? I play an SR and adore it.
    Similar story of Mura love here... I played a 1980 ST silver Muramatsu all through HS and college, then ended up doing something else with my life. When I went back to playing 10 years ago and got serious enough (and made good money from a career in tech) I went flute shopping and was super disappointed in the new Muramatsu out of the case. I tried a lot of models and makes, at first loved a Yamaha, then was leaning towards a gold fusion Haynes but I kept coming back to the silver SR Muramatsu and loving it more and more, and getting more and more out of it and it just felt so comfortable. I'm now playing at a pro level again, just did a whole run of Nutcrackers with a regional pro ballet again for the 4th season in row. My new Muramatsu isn't so new anymore but it's become my best friend for the last 10 years in my unexpected 2nd life as a gigging pro musician. I agree, there's just something about the way they feel that just works for me too. Every technician also tells me they are the most well made of all the flutes and the most fun to work on!

    I wanted to say, that I‘ve heard, that there are many teachers recommending different flute brands and special flutes. As the mother of my student asked, if I can recomment one, I said, that this is different for everyone, with which brand it works. She played a Thomann before, so she’s an intermediate player and tried different ones and liked Yamaha, so they bought the Yamaha. I had tried Yamaha before and didn‘t liked it, but the friend, who had the Yamaha I tried, didn‘t liked Pearl, which I had from the beginning. I tried Muramatsu too, but at the Moment, I can‘t afford it. But liked the Muramatsu 14K actually. 🥰 Didn‘t tried a silver one. In Germany, there is only one seller for the golden ones.
