Hi friends 😊 Hope you guys enjoy this one! I kinda let loose with the memes... And yes! That's actually what has now become Lizzo's flute, the very one! I was so tickled to hear that it had been bought and gifted to her. The perfect owner, IMO. 😊 I had SO MUCH FUN streaming and editing this. Thank you all for your patience while hubs and I have been grinding through his TSW symptoms. It's been wonderful to emerge back to some semblance of normal life. ❤️ See y'all in the next video! 🤗 -Jo
Quick question do I need to replace my headjoint cork because my articulation isn't as good as it was during augest through February now it feels like I'm playing through gauze or cotton should I take in because I'm about to start marching band camp and I'm pretty sure the flute teacher is going to give me a new flute
Well that's one way to prevent anyone from asking to borrow your flute, just get it custom made with features that no one will be able to know how to play 🤣
Years ago when the flute convention was in New York, I was offered the opportunity to play the driad flute, but had to turn it down. I had just had lunch and had no way of brushing my teeth before trying it. It's bugged me ever since. You know all those Facebook posts where folks discuss advice they wish they could give their younger selves? Mine is to take a toothbrush and floss to the flute convention!
I’m a tenor sax player and I bought an Altus d’Amore from Flute Center shortly after this video was made. Best money I ever spent! Such a great instrument and the sound is like nothing else.
If you go back to Boehm's book on flute making he originally designed the flute with open G# and the switched B-Bb thumb key, so today's flutes are actually the one's that veered from the original design.
NGL, I’m a complete beginner and it felt good to see a professional flutist make the same faces that I make on a daily basis when hitting the wrong notes 😂 Loved the video!! 👏🏼
I'm used to adjusting and modifying various fingerings on my recorders, and I can half-hole accurately in any key on just about any whistle you hand me, but a flute with a swapped-round B/B flat setup and an open G# key combined would have me crawling up the walls for quite some time 😱 If I were a wealthy man, I'd buy one of these just for the challenge!
In the hall of the mountain king be like 🎵I am running out of breath out of breath out of breath I am running out of breath to try to play this song I am out of f*cking breath f*cking breath f*ing breath -- BREATHES IN -- I am out of f*cking breath f*cking breath now🎵
This was amazing!! One of the weirdest flutes that I’ve tried within the last two years was the Burkhart 998 Silver flute with 14k soldered tone holes; I didn’t like it with the gold toneholes. A lot of people who tried the Dryad Touch flute said it was too weird for them. As a person with perfect pitch, it was so weird to hear you play the flute d’amore
Oh this is a goldmine of puzzled faces xD I sort of get it, I feel like that whenever our choir director asks us to all sing the bass line. I can't read bass clef, so my ears are hyper aware, while my brain is forcing my eyes to not look at the music too much lol. And crazy, the things you can do to a flute. I think the Dryad flute is my favorite. It looks like a fairy should own it. I welcome this video as a distraction, since I'm sick with Covid atm, it's fun to watch you figure out these flutes xD
As a former tenor and bass recorder player, this was really cool to watch (my mother is a soprano flutist/alto vocalist in our church choir). I’m a bass/contrabass singer and my aunt is a tenor as well, all of the three of us in the same room make for a fun trio haha. Really enjoyed the video!
I love this. I miss my old flute tech in Wisconsin. I drove a long way for one day service. He would set me up with around 70k worth of flutes to "doodle" on. Agreed with "too much metal" not helping my tone. You are such a good sport with the "weird" flutes. Lizzo's new flute is INSANE. I have played Alto, C, and piccolo.
Basically all older German flutes by Hammig, Mönnig or whatsoever have those slanted footjoint keys (including rollers)😁 Bernhard Hammig, and if I’m not mistaken Phillipp Hammig, too, still offers that option nowadays!
I am in love with that piccolo. I have a Yamaha GarbageTruck (the low G-D might as well be silent)... and then you go play that Powell! Dag nabbit! ;-)
I always find it weird that people have issues with the Yamaha piccolos. My first piccolo was a Yamaha student piccolo and it was bright and responsive throughout the register, even fine up to high high C# and D after a little bit of practice. But I think maybe I got lucky with a particularly responsive one from the production line 😂
I feel like the open G sharp could possibly attention to your hand from pushing down the key, and make it more difficult to move your other fingers as quickly
Watching this make me extremely excited and happy and at the same time a bit sad. Why sad? Because the recorder is my favorite intrument and we cannot enjoy such amazing developments, different designs, materials, ways to make the mechanism, etc. We are forced we an ancient looking intrument because the majority of players are against everything. The recorder is fine but it has so much potential and things to change.
In ~~ 2013-4, John Lunn chased and sculpted my closed hole Haynes (28,xxx)that, when it was done, I named “Charm Bracelet.” John also modified the footjoint of another flute ~~ he angled the C#, C, B to be easier for me to reach. Thanks, John Lynn.🎉🎉🎉🎉 Not terribly expensive. Nice person.
I absolutely love the dámire flute. This reminds me so much of the clarinet I thought, and then they said it. I was considering getting a flute but now maybe I want one in Bflat?
I bought an Altus open g# back in June, and it is all I play on now. Also have a matching open g# piccolo as well. It's made me enjoy playing flute again.
As a Saxophonist and Clarinetist Doubler (who primarily plays in Bb) i rlly want the Altus D'Amore. I'm trying to learn flute and it throws my mind in a loop playing a C instrument. I always wondered if Bb flutes existed edit: just saw the price, i think ill stick w my armstrong C flute...
What Joanna said; Lizzo now has three flutes in total. 10-15 years from now, she’ll probably be like Galway who has an entire drawer of flutes. Her other two flutes are Muramatsus; She has a regular silver Muramatsu (I believe she has the DS) that her dad bought her and then she has another Muramatsu that’s silver that was custom made for her and painted in blue.
Hi... You play piccolo I recently bought a piccolo but the instrument is out of tune The first octave is in tune while the second octave tends to be sharp If the instrument faulty or what should I do. Been playing flute for five years and decided I try the piccolo
Hi, I know what kind of twister moves your brain is having to make. But that is my life. My first instrument and my favourite is Bb trumpet. In order to play with anyone I have to mentally transpose and figure out what key they are playing, then play the key I should play in. I have to have my violinist help me when playing at church with a group. We do not know what we are playing till that morning. In my Bb trumpet brain, when I hear my C note, for everyone else it is a Bb! When I hear and play a Db, the others here a B! And I transpose and play what will correspond with their instrument. Now I am very used to that. Good thing I took music theory. But most can't get their heads around it at all. But what can mess up my ear is...when I play my C trumpet. When I am for instance blowing doing the fingering for a note, say a G but, in my mind the sound that comes out is a Bb sound and my brain says it shouldn't be that sound! I am also having to blow in differently to match notes and fingering. What comes out, in my mind, should be the sound I am used to for that note, I also play the Irish fipple flutes, which are called whistles. I live in Ireland. Now the flutes come in all the different notes. Most play the high or low D. But I also Play The Bb whistle, the Eb, the E, The high G and low G. The tennor A, The F, the C, Now the whistles or fipple flute all all different sizes AND each flute has different fingering. So when I am playing with a group I pick up the corresponding whistle or do some half hole to add some sharp or flat notes. It can be confusing, But after awhile your mind gets in shape and can do the gymnastics. The same problem I had at first was played the C on the C whistle or any other key, accept the Bb, is different to me. It was fun watching you, because I knew just what kinds of mental gynastics your brain was doing. I am getting as a gift from my son for Christmas, is an Irish wooden flute and will be playing that. The fingering is like the D Fipple flute. I love wind instruments. The instrument I found the most difficult was violin. My hubby tried to teach me a song but, I just can't get coordinated enough to bow with one arm and do the fingering with my fingers. Some people say the trumpet is the hardest musical instrument but... i say it is the violin. You play beautifully!! You have another subscriber!
Do you have a t-shirt with this off the shoulder cut or did you cut it like this? I played for Wibb twice and got to play his open G# Louis Lot. R.I.P.
@@JustAnotherFlutist Honestly, I’d rather relearn to play with an open G# than have a split e on my flute. The split E was created to help with the problems of closed G#. I just don’t like feeling the extra rod under the right hand
Yes! I'm a tenor sax player (mostly oboe player tho) who started flute before sax It was so weird going from C to Bb back to C I love the Flute d'Amour because I don't have to do mental gymnastics just to play. Also, it's name translates to the Love Flute, so, that's nice.
OK I'm going to try really hard this year and the next 3 years of high school to get to the honors band for tmea and hopefully get to area and next year I want to try out for 1st flute just so I can play the muramatsu gx the flute director has
Boehm liked closed g sharp, it was only because flute players refused to relearn the fingering. (It would be fine for beginners of course.) It doesn't make sense to have two tone holes for one note. It also creates a weak spot - that's where a flute bends if someone sits on it

Being a clarinetist, the Altus D’amore seems like a lot of fun. Can read clarinet music on a flute with no transposition 👀
Right? Would be super handy

For those who don't know, Open G# also improves the sound of the High E without the mechanism.

The Powell king wood piccolo is now on my wish list, along with the Mancke head joint with the wood lip plate.

Fun. I’ve played a Roosen octobass. From memory it had an extra key next to the g# so went to the A below cello. And, yeah tons of air required!

Could you try the Di Zhao DZ GS-D Flute on your next review video?
The Bb absolutely has a different sound!

Does Lizzo actually own the John Lunn flute or did she just rent it for the event?

When she played the low register on the contrabass it remined me of Minnie from gidle singing in the beginning of oh my God
How much was the Mopane lip plated head joint?
My question for the contrabass is - at what point does a flute stop being a flute???!
When the mechanism to make the sound changes
Oooo we have more weird stuff in stock now 🤣🤣🤣
