Watching the end of this video now, seems like there was only one camera available, so had to be focused on Mr. Morita first, and then on the interviewer. Fascinating. I’m assuming the plan was to edit the two parts together later.
I know it was a different time, but it’s so insane that she asked him if he considered being a standup comic when he was released FROM AN INTERNMENT CAMP!
Pat Morita was a very strong comedy man but this was his first drama role. And become a pop culture ionc that all ages love and enjoy even the whole family as well
He's just like me I'm proud to be Asian just like I'm proud to be African. I learned when I got older that I'm half South Asian. It wasn't always easy accepting the fact that I was different than a lot of people I grew up around
wow, grew up with mexican americans with an irish priest who he named himself after.. lol Interesting watching Pat talk about how he learned karate and talking about the different kinds of hits, etc...
My only exposure to Pat Morita outside of Karate Kid was in the movie Midway, thought it was a look-alike when I saw him in that because I had gotten so used to hearing him speak with a Japanese accent for his role of Mr. Miyagi
Yes, but allow a different view point. Firstly.....the USA like any country has made mistakes and by and large it has atoned for that and many other "sins". The attack on Pearl Harbor was vicuous and the camps were a reaction to NOT knowing what the Japanese people were capable of. It certainly wasn't pretty, but the country was doing what it could to protect it's national security after a brutal, unprovoked attack. Pat in several of his interviews references the fact that he is American. Pat went on to NOT be a victim of the unfortunate detainment, not constantly saying "SHAME, SHAME" but to rise above it and become more successful than most people ever even dream of. And he did it BECAUSE of the country the USA is and the opportunities it affords all who live here.
@@frink32 so the Japanese surprise attack a military base, and we nuclear bomb two of their biggest cities?! Full of women and children. It’s amazing to hear his real voice and I’m like no this can’t be Mr. Miyagi lmao
He was Arnold in Happy Days before where he sounded different as well. ruclips.net/video/n2BjZMmX2fs/видео.html
He had a way with voices.
You never saw Happy Days??
right!
This man has an incredible story. Makes me like the movie that much more.
Have you watched the documentary about his life yet?! It’s great!!

I wish he was still here to be in the Cobra Kai TV show.
Same me too I wish he’s in Cobra kai, but sadly it won’t happen because he died November 24 2005
Yea it would’ve been great but he would’ve been 90 something. If Conra Kai was maybe filmed during 2010s perhaps but RIP to a great actor and comedian
