    Something I forgot to add for the point regarding vendor prices is that, of course, sometimes the items you can get at a vendor are Normal Quality when the items on the marketboard are high quality...I still think the people buying these items don't know that they can get a marginally worse item from a vendor and it will make almost no difference when leveling.

    • @BigEd30
      @BigEd30 Год назад +5

      A lot of times these HQ items are daily requirements for Grand Company Turn-ins, and that is why the HQ items are sometimes really highly priced. Yes you could craft them yourself if you have the crafting gear setup on your character or you can be lazy and pay that higher price and save time, because HQ items for GC turn-in give double the rewards (double job xp and double GC seals) vs NQ turn-in.

    • @anierikidemona
      @anierikidemona Год назад +1

      @@BigEd30 Essentially this. I find a good compromise to tell people is buy cheap high quality ingredients, then craft the item if they will save a decent amount of gill.
      High quality materials drastically change how difficult a craft is and a lot of people underestimate it. But the completion experience for that stuff is usually good as well.

    • @rhael42
      @rhael42 Год назад +1

      NQ items are _not_ "marginally worse." Please, for the love of Hydaelyn, do _not_ use NQ gear if you're even thinking about queueing for anything through DF.

    • @COEFFXIV
      @COEFFXIV 10 месяцев назад

      @@rhael42 you've echoed my exact thoughts! I can't stand how many would state to get NQ gear when it's just there when you're in a pinch. HQ gear will last you at least two to three dungeons during your MSQ runs or while leveling.
      Folks don't know just how solid HQ gear is and this was misinformation that needs to be adjusted.
      Also, when NQ gear is being sold for 43,215 gil in the vendor in Heavensward content while everyone is in Endwalker content, why sell HQ gear in the Marketboard for higher price? I price my gear low for leveling players to help THEM out while keeping their wallets happy. You can ALWAYS farm for necessary items to keep afloat and for dang sure Gil isn't an issue if you're making cheese regardless.
      By no means am I hating on Jolsn here because I just subscribed to him and I wish to support my FFXIV players. But, this is one piece of information I felt he needs to reevaluate.

      1gil undercut is fine if its a thing for like 10k scrap gil. however you look like a fool if its something that sells for 800k but you are undercutting for 1gil at a time. then its way more realistic to undercut a decent amount so that a third party will be tempted to buy it to resell it to get the most they can out of it and you get a faster sell then waiting 2 months for a 20k difference in profit

    Something else about leves (though less gil-related) is that there are challenge log tasks for them, one for doing 20 of them and one for doing 5 different plates (the little pictures with them). They hand out a little bit of gil, but they also hand out a decent chunk of XP, and that XP goes to whatever job you currently are, not the job that the leve is related to. It's worth noting that some of the gear being sold on the MB is being bought by people doing grand company supply/provision to level their crafters & gatherers (it's really great exp, highly recommend). in this case a high quality item gives you DOUBLE EXP so it's worth it to buy for double the price.

    • @scrubs5977
      @scrubs5977 Год назад +4

      If you have the gil to spend getting HQ versions on the MB can be worth it, but most of the time I find it to be a case-by-case basis because some of the high quality versions of items are extremely overpriced compared to the normal versions and will drain your gil quickly, even more so if you're doing it for all your crafters. 99% of the time its always cheaper to buy or gather the materials yourself, especially in later levels where you can usually get away with crafting it HQ with scrip gear. There's also no guarantee the item will be sold or be HQ depending on the server, but it comes down to how much time you want to put into doing all of that in the first place.

    The stack thing is the most common, I see people selling 99 item stacks of things you only use 1-2 of. They must sit there for months. Also, you can massively undercut if there is a fleecer, if market history shows dozens of transactions at 20k but current listings are 200k there's no need to maroon your listing for months, just put yours up at a reasonable price.

      @chrisanderson7820 Год назад

      @Gareth Fairclough No, that's how you fuck it up for momentary profiteers. Most people when buying will flick a quick look at the price history and won't buy something for 200k if the last dozen transactions were all at 20k unless they are wildly desperate or don't care about money. 90% of the time they'll just throw it on favourites and check again tomorrow. Rather than sitting there forever I'll put it up at a price that I know the market will generally bare, maybe a little higher. Supermarkets don't just suddenly start selling apples at $5 each.

    One thing I don't get is when a player sales something by undercutting a substantial amount to purposely try to bring prices down on the market board and what ends up happening is someone sees this huge undercut and buys the item or stack of items up only to resale it for a personal profit for themselves. Many do it and every time I see a player undercutting to try and drive prices down I have to shake my head at the gil they're about to lose, as I buy them up for resale. 😄

    • @oataoa
      @oataoa Год назад +1

      I did that quite a lot, but you have to be smart about it xD, if you undercut too much people will buy it and then resale, but sometimes the undercut is enough to make people freak out and fear a market crash, while still not being really worth it to resale if you take into account the tax and everything, if the undercut is not too small or too big no one takes up the effort to buy it and resell it, it’s just not worth it with the taxes
      I made literally 500 millions of gil in less than 6 months just by making smart undercuts, not really what you’d call a loss, so i guess it’s possible xD, i’m currently at 700 million gils total and still gaining more lol

What I like to do is to figure out how much I want for an item then post that item for a certain price in one city and then on a different city, undercut myself by one gil. I do this multiple times. What happens is the MB only displays so many items for sale in one block, you have to scroll down to see more, but oftentimes people are too lazy to do this, so I fill up that block with my items (sold on multiple retainers) so that people only see my items for sale in the initial block of items.

    Tip for a fairly reliable income source that takes literal seconds to do is find a really popular gathering item. Have a retainer only collect that and sell it on the marketboard. If it's a high enough rotation rate you'll have it sold by the time you retainer returns with more to sell. You can do this at a super low level at like lvl 30. Also Desynth everything you get you don't want sometimes it'll give you a really valuable item to sell plus 200 gil is 200 gil. With 2 retainers getting up to lvl 50 items. I make about on average 7000gil every hour a good day is above 10,000
    You can do it with crafting items as well but it's more work and this method doesn't really make you a ton of money just more steady income for nothing while you do other things not crafting related like leveling or MSQ

    Probably unpopular opinion about undercutting, but at least for the bigger-ticket, slower moving items (like, say, crafted glamour stuff based on treasure map drops) I don't buy the "you'll crash the market!" argument at all. If something is going for 200-300K, I'll happily knock 10K off of that. Why? Well, the other people selling the item are probably doing the same thing I am, where they had/bought the valuable material and are trying to turn a profit on it. Undercutting by 1 gil on things like that is basically saying "I agree on the price you've set, but I want mine to sell first, so there." If I'm going to basically try to cut in line to sell mine first, I want the other sellers to have a real choice to make: Accept that I'm willing to take a lower profit margin than they are and wait for mine to sell first, or meet me where I am on the price. I don't have time to try to win the "who can babysit their retainer harder" game against bots. If I have a big ticket item up for sale for days on end and every day I check to find that 2-3 one gil undercuts sold while mine is still up there, you're darn right I'm setting a lower price point.
    But here's the thing: No one is forcing anyone else to match my price when I go lower. If my single item being cut by 10-20K "crashed the price" then the previous price point was untenable to begin with.

    Reasonable tips for newbies.
    These are good habits, when having single digit million Gil and under.
    Although in regards to allowances and also checking vendors for items you can buy with a small premium on the marketboard, I'd throw the buzzword "opportunity cost" in.
    Time saved with buying an item from the Marketboard instead can be spend on bigger endeavours raking in more cash.
    Opportunity cost is also the reason why gathering will fall off very quick in making gil efficiency.
    Allowances can ofc net you some amount, even if coffee biscuits times are long over, but doing those takes time and effort too.
    Treasure Hunts take no effort and are a great way to spend time with friends, 6+ people with 3 (current)maps per person and you'll get your maps' worth back guaranteed, even if you bought your 3 maps.
    Some older maps are also worth a bunch.
    But it all really comes down to just not spending the Gil you get:
    Get a crafter up to lvl 80 and do some pvp, daily one is sufficient, get the Grade VIII Dark Matter for repairing the gear yourself.
    Daily Roulettes in general are free Gil.
    Greed everything in dungeons and get Ventures for your Retainers to get RNG loot(1h venture or w/e), without much effort, that you can sell.
    Join a hunt Discord and do 1-2 S-Rank trains per week, no need to buy Materia anymore, also Teleport-Tickets for free teleports.
    New glam releases? Do you really want it? Then wait 1-3 weeks for the prices to plummet.
    Got f.e. the newest pet from the dungeon shortly after release? Sell! Buy back cheaper later.
    Later start looking into your DC's economy and start to flip items from lower economy servers or look for overlooked items/prices, if you already got some cash.
    Getting a billion Gil won't come quick, but this is stuff you'd probably do anyway and it won't suck out your soul, like playing in sync with the timers.
    Oh also, you can totally undercut in a mean way.
    If it frees up a selling slot on your retainer and you can sell another item in the time it would have taken you to undercut responsible, that's a win!
    Always have retainers at 20/20.
    Some marketboard botters also forget to set a limit for undercutting... :^)

    Selling vender items for more on the market board isn't trying to fleece you its selling you convenance. Many players later in the game have more gil then they know what to do with and limited time so they would rather spend more to get items quickly without running around. A great example of this is selling items used in the fashion report. There are often vender items but you need to track down where those items are sold and travel around collecting them or you could take 30 seconds on the marketboard and get a 100 score.

    You can buy some gear from a NPC vendor, sure, but not HQ versions.
    Also, when buying up items that sell for more to a NPC vendor, make sure the fee you're paying on top of the selling price doesn't put you over the NPC price in the end.

    I would argue undercutting is an exercise in futility. If you're constantly undercutting by 1, and you maintain that being at the top is the most desirable position, chances are dozens of other people are doing the same thing. Maybe not for the biggest ticket items, but you can be very assured that a 1000 gil item can easily drop down below 900 in a matter of hours just because people have that 1 gil undercutting mentality.
    Rather, I look at what quantities are being sold, and for how much. 99 stacks of something for 500 each? Well no one's going to buy those, why don't I sell 2 or 3 for 550, or even 600? My 1200, 1800 gil sale is much more affordable than a nearly 50k investment into something you might only need a couple pieces of.

    Hard disagree about "undercut responsibly".
    The people who get mad about that are no-lifers who pretend that it's an equal playing ground when they can log in ten times as often and keep an eye on the prices and immediately undercut again. They're mad that they can't retain their advantage of logging in more often than you to keep undercutting you again by 1 gil ASAP. When they tell you not to undercut by more, that it's "impolite", they're trying to socially manipulate you into participating in the market in the way that is more advantageous to them, usually by pretending it's not any more advantageous to them than to you.
    One person selling one lot for a few hundred gil less doesn't "crash" the market. It just makes the item sell a bit faster by making it less likely that other people undercut you - other people will see that there's only one cheap lot and decide to just undercut the rest rather than undercutting the one extra-cheap lot.
    The only time it crashes the market is when the market was artificially inflated. Undercutting is just how markets find equilibrium.
    You undercut by hundreds or thousands of gil when you want something to sell quickly or you won't be able to log in as often and check. It is a perfectly rational thing to do. The fact that other people don't like it is their problem - if they don't like participating in a market without price-fixing, they shouldn't participate. It's rare that they throw a fit and crash the market, but if they do they're just cutting off their nose to spite their face.

What's funny is I refused to drop my price on the summoner weapon from the Phoenix chick as they were trying to sell it for 100,000s less than what it normally sells for. Left it up and people sold theirs for like 20,000 meanwhile mine sold after theirs for 640,000 which is still less than it sometimes went for as her weapons are super popular and sometimes cost way more than endwalker weapons. These idiots have dropped some prices from the 400,000 to 10,000 and I've been tempted to buy some just to make a profit later.
