As others have said, you jump from saying this is a beginner guide that can be done at any level, to being a guide about the best time to use high level fishing skills. It'd be fine if you at least transitioned, i.e. "And thats the introduction, now we're going to talk about how to play at level X"
Thank you for this amazing video. I incorporated your advice after failing to get more than ~7k points many times and on my first run hit 20k. Got the mount, title, everything. Perfect advice.
Wow, this seems like a very informative video but it didn't feel like a "beginner's" guide to doing something "easily" at all. I'm a level 13 Fisher so I don't even have almost any of the skills you mentioned, and the whole situation of needing to pre-plan specific fish to target using a third-party tool to scout out a specific trip seems pretty involved. This was very hard to follow without much Fishing experience in FFXIV.
I felt the exact same thing watching this a few days ago. It wasn't until I got my FSH to end game last night that it started to make sense. On the bright side, getting 10k without using macros or unlocking all the skills is definitely doable if you manage to get 2-3 Spectral Currents and easy side missions for a etter multiplier. I got the mount while casually running for XP / Scrips. The title is gonna be tough though...
@@CatsLeMatts Yeah I actually got the mount myself at around level 50, just by looking up what baits are generally good in what spot and getting a bit lucky. Like I said this video is definitely very good, I just think that providing level 90 rotations is a bit at odds with the way Ocean Fishing is often presented as "a quick way to level your untouched FSH job", and I think all the stuff about determining what exact fish bit your line by tracking the time spent since casting and looking at a full list goes against the idea of an "easy guide for beginners". For a level 90 fisher who wants to make serious high-score attempts towards the harder achievements, this is the perfect guide. Really I'm just a little bothered by how common it is for FFXIV guides to be like "intro to doing X for beginners!" and then immediately start talking about Level 90 skills. IMO if you're max level on a job you are not a "beginner". What if I'm in the middle of Heavensward or Stormblood and want to know a good Level 60 rotation for my job?
@@Zanador i agree, Jolsn probably could have spent a little longer explaining the fundamentals and the different skills we got along the way would have made this a lot easier to understand.
THANK YOU. Finally, someone explains the Lulu's Tools so that it makes sense! I have been so confused by this site, and every video I've seen that tries to explain it made me even more confused. You have done a great job. I can't wait to put what I've learned to use tonight 😆 Wish me luck lol
yer it’s confusing for beginners cos you have to complete the original part of the game first to level 50 on to the next expansion..so really isn’t a beginner guide
Thanks so much for this! Maybe a good tip: Queue later, not immediately on the hour. You’ll get a higher chance of joining with a group of less people. It definitely buffed my spectral catches and points in general. I had a group of 8 and I got 10763 points in the end. I’m not 100% sure this is a thing, but it sure seemed like it. I was level 67 when it happened.
@@mumtrz you cant miss the ship. as soon as you queue in for the trip you are guaranteed to enter it. after 10 min if the queue has not found 24 players, you get into the ship with the few people that was searching as well. soo easier to catch special fish
Exactly the video I was looking for! Getting back into fishing after not having touched it since hitting 80 in early ShB and absolutely clueless looking at all the new/changed buttons. Great to have a game plan I can be confident in!
I have enjoyed fishing so much I leveled my fisher to lvl 62 already and my main character is lvl 50. Ocean fishing has really bumped up the levels and it’s fun
Thank You sir, tried by myself to understand the best fishes to catch on the go, but i ended up getting lost in it >_< it isn't too much complicated, just have to pre-plan it couple of mins before, with enough time and practice anyone should be able to get the 10k and 20k achievements ^^ I just got my 10k achievement and scored 12k points thank to a kind stranger that was suggesting which fish to catch and what lure to use =P After we were done i analyzed the website and kinda understood what and why those were the best choices :D and thanks to your guide i managed to get a lot of points ^^
I know right! It's always 'easy' to do - if you're level 90 with unlimited gil. I don't actually expect it to be easy but it would be nice if there were some FFXIV guide videos that weren't click baity...
Bruh, just level up and you’ll have all the information you need. And there are a myriad of ways to make all the Gil you need besides hooking a loan shark… eh? Eh? Not funny? Yeah, I’ll leave.
I was too noob to fully understand the content of the video, but I sailed and still had a lot of fun. My question now is.... I got ton of fish, what do I do with it? lol
This is really helpful. I love your videos. Question: if you are getting a bit at a time that doesn't line up with the bite you are going for do you just use the normal hook ability, or letting the timer wait and casting again?
I'm only lvl 37 but I can't seem to complete all of the objectives, catch 5 sharks, catch x 3 star fish etc does anyone have any tips on doing that. Do you get more xp if you do?
I don't know if they've buffed the points or something now? I got the mount at level 52 before I'd even unlocked any of the skills in this guide. I just used the right baits for each area and spectral current, and without really trying I got 10k points.
i'm lvl 52, going to any random ocean fishing voyage i can get since lvl 16 (so roughly 5 or 6 voyages so far, following the advice here 11:44 ), i have no idea what i'm doing, i got clumps of krill, ragworm and plumpworm in my pockets, and after 6 voyages i scored over 10000 points. And not because i'm good lol i make so many mistakes, wrong bait, wrong button, etc. soo.. yea. Gotta keep trying, learning at your own pace, and if you dont like using a website like lulu's tools (great webbie for sure) theres often someone on board telling everyone which bait to use. 10k is totally doable. 20k however... prolly gonna require to be lvl 90.
@@Jolsn Oh absolutely, i searched for Triple Hook among the skills in Actions & Traits and apparently it unlocks at lvl90. I'm just gonna hang out on boats for a lil while until i hit 90, and i'll come back to this video. It's a really good guide so, thank you for making it :>
@@adrianyeager6463 An update lets see, i must have hit lvl 100 about 1 months later without really trying (one or two voyages per irl day, the exp is really good). But i recall hitting the 20k points at lvl 98 with the help of triple hook and a lot of luck (a voyage on the ruby sea where 3 spectral currents occured). I never got the hang of how the Cast Macro (with the timer appearing) worked so i did it without it. 6:04 This combo here was a central piece. Basically 1) trying to meet each of the three quotas without spending GP while amassing Angler's Art buff stacks for later use 2) during the spectral current, Double Hook hoping the fish is gonna be good, and if it is, Thaliak's Favor a couple times to regain GP before throwing the full combo Identical Cast, Prize Catch, Triple Hook. Then just regular hook, or Double Hook if i can afford it. 3) After the spectral current ends, trying to rebuild Angler's Art stacks as fast as i can, while trying to meet the three quotas. Is this slightly out of date? In the video you say it takes 1600 GP, but based on my math it takes 1650? You can't achieve this without 950 starting GP.
got it on my third try, if you plan your trip with the baits you're going to use and use "patience" well you dont even need double hooks and triple hooks anymore. i got 5.9k base and i was only lvl 43 fishing
