Richie is that rare shredder who doesn't feel like he has to show it all the time. He plays for the song. And he is actually quite a good vocalist. Much respect.

So now the guy throws out some awesome contemporary pop/soul song ..... after the rock pedigree that he has laid down over the past 20 years? I already enjoyed Kotzen's talent before this, but holy crap, how much more great music is lurking in the soul of this dude. I'm guessing this song is homage to his love for Hall and Oates music. I'd love to see him on Daryl's House, he would be a terrific guy to jam with.

Richie's original material harkens back to that 70's singer/songwriter sound. He'd fit in seemlessly with 70's artists such as Hall & Oates, Player, Ambrosia, etc. Essentially, any 'yacht rock' band from back in the day. His music is timeless!

Met Richie after a show in Arizona in Scottsdale called, BK Live back in 2017 with his band. I spoke to Richie for about 15 minutes- I said to him, Richie: ( after thanking him for all his music, etc. I said- Your on the level of Prince being so diverse in your music and how many instruments you play to your song writing, I also mentioned way back in High-school when I was studying music, I discovered your music by coming across your 2nd CD- Fever Dream, Richie's head went way back, and said, "OMG dude you kidding me", I think he went back to smoke a joint after that, Great moment meeting Richie after his show, was super cool.

Richie is just fusing the music of his youth with his unique style. Richie grew up in Reading, PA. A lot of RUclips viewers are too young to remember Philadelphia Soul. Hall and Oates were just the marquee "blue eyed" musicians in that scene. I urge each and every viewer to research the genre. Granted, much of the music is dated, and Richie puts a hard rock/heavy metal edge on the Philadelphia sound that makes his music sound familiar and new at the same time; however, a trip through that music scene will give those who are unfamiliar with the music that Richie listened to when he was a kid a greater appreciation for this man's genius as well as his respect for the genre. I am old enough to have listened to Philadelphia Soul when it was originally recorded. I have also had the pleasure of watching Richie develop as a musician. I would have never believed in a million years that the kid who first appeared on Mike Varney's label would develop into such as multi-faceted musician. Richie is the white Prince.

What is so cool about Kotzen is his simple blend of funk and.blues!! We all know he can ay gunslinger, sweep pick and shred better than the next guy.....been doing that for years. His writing and crafting of songs, songs with hooks and wicked melodic sensibility,THAT,is where he sits head and.ahoulders above most. Why he is.not a.houswhold name is simple.....he has been branded a shredder and lives in that shadow. Few people know he is an amazing writer. I for one ,am happy to know of his awesome talent yet have him be " unknown" so to speak. Makes it more special!!

    From an interview last month:
Kotzen says he had a weird schedule when he was 15, and it soon turned into a full-time band. We did everything from Aretha Franklin to Ronny James Dio, and we had an amazing female front person who sadly passed away last year, but she was fantastic. She could sing Dio like you thought it was Dio, and then she would do an Aretha Franklin song. You can see her in one of my music videos. I have a video of a song called ‘In an Instant.’” www.readingeagle.com/life/article/requiem-for-a-friend

    Lyrics ...
"O’ what’s the drama? Cry, ease the pain
You don't know that we all hit the bottom?
I can’t say that I'm not the same
Alone in a dream is where I found you
and it's instant now I finally know the past has brought today
A commitment now I'm man enough everything going my way
And it's instant I can’t fight the war I'm happier today
And it's instant Instant What war?
You’ve got me loving off the pain
Now you’re my lady don't ever change
I've been so many places but you know that yours is the one I claim
Alone in a dream is where I found you
And it's instant now I finally know the past has brought today
A commitment now Im man enough everything going my way
And it's instant I can’t fight the war Im happier today
And it's instant Instant What war?
You’ve got me loving off the pain
    O I'm your lover
Alone in a dream is where I found you
And it's instant now I finally know the past has brought today
A commitment now I'm man enough everything going my way
In an instant I can finally love the time has come today
And it's instant put the pen down because its time to file the page
And it's instant I'm owning up I'm better off today
And It's simple it took some time to know the road I had to take
And it's instant I can’t fight the war I'm happier today
And it's instant Instant What war?
You’ve got me loving off the pain
    O I'm your lover
