  • Опубликовано: 31 май 2011
  • Performed by Elżbieta Towarnicka.
Lacrimosa is part of the Dies Irae sequence in the Requiem mass. Its text comes from the 18th and 19th stanzas of the sequence. Many composers, including Mozart, Berlioz, and Verdi have set the text as a discrete movement of the Requiem.

Thanks +Vilmos Magyar I'm so pleased you decided to troll my statement. I genuinely find this piece of music beautiful and very moving, especially within the context of the film. But please, please let me know what else i should be listening to, and how else i should be enriching my life...you're obviously a doyen of good taste and high culture...and definitely not an attention-seeking little fucknut...

Zbigniew Preisner born 1955 is a Polish film score composer, best known for his work with film director Krzysztof Kieślowski. ...studied history and philosophy in Kraków. Never having received formal music lessons, he taught himself music by listening and transcribing parts from records. His compositional style represents a distinctively spare form of tonal neo-Romanticism. Paganini and Jean Sibelius are acknowledged influences ... (WIKI)]

I will confess to something stupid at the beginning, but in the end it shows one thing:
      How powerful is this song...
Two weeks ago i went to my pal`s flat, with another pal, and three of us took LSD... We spent few hours laughing our asses off, telling stories, making monkeys out of ourselves etc. and i don`t even remember why, or at what point i arrived at this conclusion(this isn`t a song you want to hear on LSD- or so i thought), but i really wanted them to hear this song. Literally asked them casually "wanna get depressed?", as if this was a joke(i think i just wanted to hear Her voice, while on drug myself, and kind off didn`t care about their reaction). You have to remember that these are guys, who i mostly know, as joking clowns, doing stupid shit with me...
      And i played that song...
First of all, that was religious experience for me, as i could almost see the sound in the air, and all my hair stood up- i couldn`t believe how it was possible, this woman can go higher and higher, and stronger and stronger. Felt my whole body quiver. But i looked at my pals...
And they fell silent... Completely. They even started to breath quietly, as if they wanted to hear better.
And they looked at me, wide eyed...
And the biggest joker out of us, asked me, how was it possible, he didn`t know this song.
And i am not kidding- because i counted- they ended up playing this song 15 times. Over and over again- closest comparison i can give is when you find a wine that really tastes great, and you just want to enjoy every sip.
And i think most powerful moment,- for me- came, when our biggest joker just closed his eyes, turned his face up, waited for 1:47 and said "beautiful" into the air, to absolutely nobody. Nothing more, nothing less.
I am so glad, i told them about this song- and even if you are against drugs bit, let me just tell you- this one touches your soul, and we have two more "converts" :)

Mallick's selection of a REQUIEM! over the sequencing of The Big Bang Theory is very bold to say the least.Pure irony, as well as the heart warming dedication to Krzysztof's life. I only wish I had a friend who would do such a selfless thing god forbid I pass lol.

First time I heard this was when a friend introduced it on the night we met. She told me to just sit and close my eyes... within minutes tears were running down my cheeks and I was barely able to control my breathing. The sadness in Sumi Jo’s delivery is almost unbearable. The arrangement just transports a receptive listener to a heavy emotional place.. of course.. because it’s a requiem.. but Preisner works the dynamics perfectly. Why am I even trying to describe this? Just a testament to the power of music.

The mass in the comunity is empty and simple. 85% of the people don't really know what an aesthetic approach is. Rational thinkers, the ones who know well sense and reason and have been throu it as a general guideline in life are those who actually experience the life itself. All rest is dust at the endless cycle. =) Nice music!

I once participated in a Christmas quiz and there was a question asking what "lacrimosed" meant. I knew from this song that It is related to the weeping Mary so I impressed everyone by answering that it means crying or weeping. Of course then I had to explain them about an obscure cat video having an existential crisis and this song playing in the background but it was worth it. I wonder if that cat still has an existential crisis...

I've always had a an idea of a music video for this piece; it is Preisner himself floating high across an ENORMOUS empty cathedral. I mean a ceiling so high it is almost in the clouds. Preisner is dressed in bright white angelic garb. He is holding water in his hands, however as it spills through his fingers, it turns to gold dust.
