Art Studio Makeover! - Creating a Functional Home Workspace on a Budget

- It's time to re-think and rearrange the art studio, it's in for a bit of a functional makeover. I have a lot of things to address on a budget; better lighting, more workspace for how I work now, better organization, and, did I mention, better organization?
Sometimes the way that we work changes over time, and our space needs to change to meet our new needs. I'm going to do my best to rework the space at a reasonable cost by utilizing budget-friendly items, reusing what I can, incorporating a few thrift store finds, and filling in the blanks from discount shops. Doing the best DIY space I can.

What a refreshing video! No dodgy, overly loud music. No unnecessary faffing about. No unwatchable, 10x faster speed editing. No wasted time. And no vocal fry (ahhh, bliss). Just a clear, honest, down-to-earth & from the heart presentation bundled with practical fab ideas and inspiration. Such a pleasure to watch. Thank you sooo much!
I'm glad to see someone else who does multiple mediums and doesn't restrict to only one. I've been feeling pushed to "find" my one niche and only work and perfect that. Thank you for the freedom to be me in ALL the mediums I love!
I hear you! It’s ok to have more than one body of work, to create whatever you want, and to explore all the things. 🥰😁
I like all the colors in your room 😊😊
Thank you! I don’t think I could ever successfully be a minimalist 😅❤
I LOVE seeing someone so 1. Thrifty and 2. Particular. I can't ever justify buying new stuff when there's so much great 2nd hand stuff out there. And just cos the right thing isn't at one place, it could be at another. 2nd hand stuff is made for adapting! You must looooove your new space. I'm very jealous. The lamps on the wall are a game changer.
Yes! 100%. My entire house is a mish mosh of thrifted, Craigslist finds, hand-me-downs, and clearance buys. And the lights feel down right luxurious, being so functional. (And thank you!)
@@lynellingram It always leads to the most fashionable outfits too 😁 unique bowls. Where else am I going to find a never used ice cream maker from 1980?
@@aroset haha, so true! I think my favorite thrift find is a metal 70’s ice bucket that looks like an antique diving helmet. So many treasures to be found!
@@lynellingram and now I expect to see your best thrift finds (especially for art) in your next vid 😉
You inspire me - the tripod storage is going to be really useful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! It's cleared up so much floor space in here. Thanks for watching!!
Your little desk that you can't use the drawer, you could put casters under to be able to move it when you need, it's about 15$ for 4 at IKEA... since I've put some under my desk, I want to put casters under every piece of furniture haha I've put some under my easel too hehe
That's really smart! Thanks for the recommendation! 😺
I have a large space, but it's in my basement and SO cluttered. When we moved here 3 years ago the movers just dumped my boxes here and I've been struggling to make sense of it all! The chaos and darkness restricts my creativity. I will definitely use some of your ideas (especially lighting) to boost my area! Thank you!
The lighting solution of the desk lamps mounted on the wall are still my favorite thing. If you try it I hope it can help you to get your space closer to being your happy place!
You and John have the same dance moves!! LOL!
I believe that 😂😂
Here's a tip for you and for many artists and that is to please get yourself an adjustable desk Either electrical or crank style it don't matter also don't forget to get an adjustable Tall chair for it as well Also don't forget to have yourself a little mini fridge one of those mini coolers where you can put your soda cans in it then and only then with everything make sense!😎👍
Great tips! Thank you for sharing 😄
Thanks for the great workspace ideas! Especially the broom handle one for the lightstands! Genious!!Genius!! Oh and a great little space for the cat!
I was excited about the broom holder idea too!
What an amazing job you have done with such a small space. That result looks quite workable - and kitty thinks it's pretty cool too! Thanks for the hint about the IKEA lights that can be mounted on the wall... this just might be what I need for my own studio. Great idea to show the cost of your transformation too! This is a very well done video.
Thank you so much! The lights really are a game changer, and so affordable. And Watson (the cat) is happy to be noticed, he thinks he has a great future ahead of him as a movie star. 😸
@@lynellingram Watson might need his own channel!😊
Your talking about art work very interesting
Love the makeover! I love the rug and taboret. And the easel! ❤️
Thank you! If I have the choice, I’m usually going to bring home the colorful option. 😁🥰
helpful video. i'm working on my kids art studio in my small apt. thanks
I’m so happy that it is useful! Good luck with the kids studio, that sounds like so much fun!
Wow! Such a good change in set up! Great to see the cost breakdown too!
Thank you! I hope that it can give everyone some ideas if they are considering shaking their spaces up a bit. 😊
Thanks so much! This is so helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Great job! Super inspiring. I need help!! 😂
You got this!
This let's me wonder if I should re-arrange my corner, because it feels clustered and overwhelming @ .@. Your studio looks so cool now and you did such an amazing job! I love your ideas!
Thank you! Sometimes changing up our space can give us an extra boost of creative energy, so I say go for it! 😸
Great video with some really good organisational and lighting ideas. Just wondering where you got your easel? It's just what I've been looking for.
Thank you! The easel is the Blick Studio Medium-Duty H-Frame Easel from Dick Blick. Their own brand seems to be more reasonable than most others, and the quality is very good! I happen to live about 5 miles from a Blick store (it's very dangerous), so I was lucky enough to not have to worry about shipping.
Great ideas
Thank you, glad you like them!
I put an ikea kallax cat bed cubby with a cushion under my desk, in an empty kallax cubby, and the instant I did, my cat stopped curling up in the spot, and now rests under my oddities cabinet. 😅
Ha! Yeah, that sounds about right. 😆
#1000!!!! 🎉
🎉🙌Welcome to the chaos! Glad you are here!! 😊🕺🕺🎉
i just found you!!!😃
Hello! I'm glad you found me. :)
Counter argument: You *should* dance
I think you just made me cry a little 🥰
@@lynellingram That's gonna require more dancing then. And maybe a hot chocolate and some cookies afterward. This prescription can be filled at most local coffee shops.
