You pack and lift and unbox and shop back rooms and go with out sleep and worry about choices and re-dos. Do things fit? Ah oh, change the rug? Hello REbecca, I've been following you for years because I saw a video about bow ties. and I really like the low-budget deco videos. I live in Europe where Ikea has a strong presence. I must admit that I'd like to see the result that you imagine for a bedroom or living room with an "ikea" budget and above all that when you arrive in the room you don't think oh this comes from ikea.

The way the light fixture and kitchen hardware instantly updated that space- what a difference even small details can make to the overall look! The home turned out lovely! I can relate to all the feels; we returned home from vacation on 1/1/23 to a home that flooded due to a perfect storm of an ice storm, power outage, and unusual sub-freezing temps causing our fire sprinkler pipes to burst and our domestic water (on a well) to pump 300 gal/hr into the house for a week before we returned. Our 3200 sq ft rambler was fully flooded and most of our furniture and walls had already started to mold. Fast forward to over 12 months later and we are still not back in our house - hopefully another 6 weeks… I’ve been bingeing a lot of design and renovation videos since I’ve had to choose all new floors, paint colors, cabinets, and other finishes for the entire house on my own - it’s a lot and it’s overwhelming at times. Thank goodness I had just retired a month before this all happened LOL! And thank goodness for RUclips and content like Rebecca’s that give me great inspiration and ideas!
@kristinapreedy7069 Heartbreaking!! Idk where where you live but next time if u can, winterize your pipes and outside spigots! You can turn off the water coming into the house before you leave. That way it does not happen again. Did u lose photo albums? I hope not.
@camis.1347 thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately it was our fire sprinkler system that froze so there is really no way to “winterize” it or leave it dripping, etc. It failed in an area where an addition had been put on the house over 10 years prior and because of where the new roof areas met, it was hard to get adequate insulation where the splice of the sprinkler system met. If we had been home, we would have put a fire in the wood stove when the power went out which is why it hadn’t happened before when we lost power and it isn’t typically 14 degrees in our area (30 miles southeast of Seattle) for multiple days - literally a perfect storm! We didn’t lose any photo albums, luckily, but did lose a few (but amazingly not too many) photos that I thought were so well organized in (cardboard) photo boxes in a closet on the floor… all of our non-digital photos (that could be salvaged) are now digitized as part of the insurance cleanup! Highly recommend!

Today I viewed the 2 RUclips edits on this project with the unexpected events. Remarkable renovation by this team. From decades ago, our realtor's family owned an art gallery. We had a conversation about fire sprinkler systems, the new building codes at that time, and how these potentially added a new scenario to returning home. Return to a structure 1) in the condition that it was left, 2) that had burned, 3) or "wet", e.g., flooded. Stress is an understatement, especially when the repairs intersected Thanksgiving & the December Festivals of Lights in various religious traditions. Here's to a fulfilling 2024 with loved ones and friends for all involved, especially the dear electrical contractor, the fire department, RJ & Vymian, Team Kinwoven, & Rebecca Robeson! Truly a New Year, ushering in new phases of life.
