What I thought was modern turned out to be contemporary and what I thought was contemporary turned out to be modern. Learn a lot. Neither one is my style, even though there were some beautiful items that I liked. Thank you ❤
Interiordesigner from Europe here. We do not seperate 'your' contemporary and modern style over here. It's just 'modern' with or without woodtones. I personally love what you call contemporary but beeing an older model myself I collected some very beautiful antique furniture pieces over the decades and I find the combination of a really old piece of wooden furniture with modern things makes both popp out so stunningly. When combined with the occasional persian rug the effect can be breathtaking. So in the end it's all about your indivduality, the courage to combine controversial pieces that are important for you, the courage to be a bit eclectic thats makes your house a home and not just a showroom. Love from Bavaria!
Oh wow! What you describe is so me, I don’t want my house to look like everyone’s house, I’ve traveled and lived in 10 different countries in the world, I’ve collected items that I really love from my lived experience and I want them in my home and space. That all. Thank you for sharing.
I agreed with everything you said until you got to art. I’m an art collector, have an extensive art collection and a contemporary condo. I acquired an early painting by Jean-Michael Basquiat. I don’t believe you should select art to coordinated with your furniture. I don’t believe you should select art, art select you.
You’ve said it. You’re are a collector. Therefore, you let art select you. A different story for an interior designer who regards art as an accessory to support/beautify the esthetic of a space in order to create the bigger picture. All designers are very selective when they reach the accessorizing phase (the fine tuning). Their work is not complete without it.
I feel so understood by your definition of modern. It goes beyond home design. Contemporary could you also use the word Distinctive? Rebecca is truly a great design educator. Thanks so much.
U r the only person on the internet that I would allow to decorate every inch of my home. I wouldn’t even need to take a meeting with you. I know ow you would k peck it out of the park!!
Excellent video Rebecca! I took the design style quiz and I'm 40% Transitional; 30% Costal; and 30% Traditional. Although I have to admit that I have thrown in 2 boho rugs to give my space a grounding big bold splash of color. I would have thought that my style was Eclectic as I really gravitate towards rich textures, varied furniture style pieces, calming naturals, timeless patterns and splashes of color in my soft goods. I have watched most of your videos from the past few years and have taken several steps to fix my design mistakes following your advice. I love how my home looks, it's warm and inviting, comfortable and elevated. I've learned so much from you and always look forward to your next video. Thanks so much for all you do to keep our homes looking fabulous! Much love from Menifee, CA.
Oh Wow! I just took the design style quiz and it was spot on! 33% contemporary 33% glam and 33% transitional. As an interior designer myself, I love watching and continuing to grow and learn from the best - you are amazing and inspiring! 🥰❤
I loved this Rebecca. Thank you. It inspires me. I am more contemporary but love the mix of sharp modern with wooden antiquities. Mmm got me thinking... .
Rebecca, you are so talented and so knowledgeable. I realized that I am modern - never realized that before. Thanks so much for sharing your great wealth of knowledge with us. You are a phenomenal designer!
This video is fantastically good. I’m definitely a contemporary… I like my place to look super sleek, clean, shiny, bold…you said it all. Thank you for your videos. I learn a lot in every of your videos. Great job !
Awesome..... the style chooses you.... Just like a path you take it will always change , some obvious , some suttle. Always love the videos always educational and certainly entertaining.
Hi. I just watched your vid on purging your closet when you were living in your other house. You said in the vid to leave a comment so i decided to do that on your latest video. I came across your vids on the 10 mistakes you're making in your home series back in Nov 2023. I started watching alot of your vids. I decorated Thanksgiving and Christmas big time with your help. My home was a winter wonderland and i enjoyed it so much! I just became a member last week. Thank you for making it so affordable. I am enjoying the design session and i am super excited about the design style series. My home is challenging. Would love to have a chat with you through email or something sometime. Love you. God bless!
Both styles are beautiful. I love the contemporary style. It’s edgy. The condo looks gorgeous in today’s video. Fun video Rebecca. I love this series! You look gorgeous! Love❤
Great content Rebecca! Love the modern, warm style. I was co-mingling the 2 styles and now I see the difference. Thank you for all your's and your team's hard work!
Thank you . I looked at the quiz to see what am I..... I found I liked several of the pictures.....oh my how do I choose??? So I have taken the quiz a couple of times. Thank you......then read the write up and now I can't wait till you get to "who I am" Thank you for clearing up my foggy brain. It does make it easier for decorating and shopping. See you next week.
Thank you for clarifying this enigma. I've tried to figure this out forever. I like the warmth of modern and the drama of contemporary, but both are too clean and simplified for me. You are brilliant! Thanks for sharing this!
When I took the test, my style was Modern/Contemporary. After watching your video, I lean more towards Modern. I am too stiff for contemporary on everything. Although right now my living room furniture is a more yellow tan leather with chrome legs. Very contemporary. It is a sofa, loveseat and two overstuffed chairs. I live in an apartment and keep one of the chairs in a corner by the window for reading. I actually bought the furniture on Craigslist 5 years ago for $1200 when I had to sell all my furniture in Palm Desert when I moved back to PNW which was white overstuffed 4 piece living room set which I loved. Love what you are doing and will watch all the over videos. I want to see what my daughter's style is as she just bought a new home.
You are incredibly talented and gifted at what you do. I feel like I have never gotten our house to feel like a home. If ever I could afford a designer you would be it.
I live in a contemporary home, and it has been quite difficult to decorate. Now, I understand I am more drawn to modern design. This was such a fun and helpful video!
I appreciate modern style and even admire some interiors designed that way, but contemporary isn’t my thing at all! Thanks for separating the two for clarity. I’ve always known instinctively that contemporary (as I now know to call it) wasn’t my thing, but never really knew it was separate from modern. I just thought some designers were more edgy/daring in taste than others! 😂🫣 Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
Love to learn from you Rebecca. I don’t want to miss the upcoming styles to finally find out which one I prefer. I was a little confused with the “modern” and “ contemporary” but I’ll continue watching and finally I’ll learn. Thank you for all your work and time ❤
Ok so that explains the war in me ... I love a blend of both ... I feel better now. Rebecca - you look awesome, by the way. So love your channel - it's my FAVE.
Great video Rebecca, I don’t think I’m either one of these designs, although they are absolutely beautifully executed, it’s just not my style, I might have to go onto your website and see what my style is called, I look forward to seeing many more design ideas, absolutely loved watching this video, I wish they had a Love ❤️ button because that’s what I would of clicked on. Thanks for sharing some beautiful pieces of furniture and art and decor. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🥰🥰❤️❤️, by the way, You look Stunning in both outfits 😍😍
That pop of color or statement item is what many people miss that makes those homes from over minimalistic to wow contemporary. Also, putting the drum lamp shades on my lamps really took my modern bedroom up a notch.
Love the modern and contemporary differences you explained so well. I have a way better understanding of what my style might be. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Love your white top. I need one of those. 💗
Wow!! Great video, once again, with the great examples you have provided. Good exposure to what is out there and learning a lot here. Thank you! I even agree with you on the description of contemporary than google... Haha! I remember the days I visited the Museo de Contemporani in Barcelona. Great video!! Looking forward to the next ones. Always looking forward to your videos on my off- absolutely real treat for me 😂😍😂 love and prayers!❤
Definitely a modern girl here.. Lol that book on the shelf in the beach house bedroom. How have I not noticed that before. I love the videos of that house.
WOW ! I totally had Contemporary and Modern opposite ! Learned a lot as always ! Always thought I was Contemporary but I am really Modern! Who knew LOL
Interesting, but not me. We shall see how true my results will later. It wasn't either of these. But, I have learned a lot from You, Rebecca over the years I have been watching. Till next week, have a wonderful day.
Politics aside, if she’s not your grandma or beloved fav aunt….. why, just why? But most of the things and how that home was decorated, you couldn’t pay to live with.
I am always amazed that not on one website have I ever seen English Colonial listed as a style. It is the closest thing that I would identify as “my” style. It’s such a composite of many styles with such an inclusion of plants that are essential for my existence. Can you possibly explain why this classic style is so overlooked? I’m not sure that young designers even know about it!
I had seen Colonial listed, but then sub branched as English, American and so on. I think it has been overlooked by some, because of the negative connotations of Colonialism.
You are the one of best interior design I’ve ever seen ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤thanks for everything I learned something about your job and styling ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤that’s why I followed you 😅😂every where you go 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love modern. My eye will always wander towards mid-century modern design. I love the presence of wood without it being over-powering. The smaller sized furniture is also a plus for me.
Modern for sure, I thought I was a mixture of both but my home is 97% modern with a few touches of other styles ( big, big art but with frames and very subtle motifs ), but very few ones..love to learn, thanks Rebecca
Very little of contemporary that I like, personaly. I apreciate in some else house but not in mine. I took the quiz but I didn't have the choices that I am really drawn to. Could not honesly make the choices I would make in real life. Was interesting though.
I got contemporary and modern reversed. Thought the modern was more austere and contemporary more relaxed. You are so entertaining and love learning from you.
What I thought was modern turned out to be contemporary and what I thought was contemporary turned out to be modern. Learn a lot. Neither one is my style, even though there were some beautiful items that I liked. Thank you ❤
I agree, thought the same thing!!!
Interiordesigner from Europe here. We do not seperate 'your' contemporary and modern style over here. It's just 'modern' with or without woodtones. It’s about time that I know the difference. Thank you for explaining. I love your modern home choices.
Thank you so much for the information about what sets these styles apart. Very much enjoyed this video!
I agreed with everything you said until you got to art. I’m an art collector, have an extensive art collection and a contemporary condo. I acquired an early painting by Jean-Michael Basquiat. I don’t believe you should select art to coordinated with your furniture. I don’t believe you should select art, art select you.
Truth! - Artist here. You can use a piece of art to create a color story, though...
omg, finally somebody said it!
I'm an Israeli interior designer and I couldn't agree with you more
Maybe this is not valuable art but art chosen to finish the effect!
Agree...I'm a dude and even I know being a sad beige mom isn't where it's at. Art is the focus point, not the furniture.
Really enjoyed this kind of video, please do more design styles !! 😊
Love, love, love your definitions! This series is already one of my favorites. This is going to be a wonderful sales pitch for the design sessions.
So glad you reviewed this Rebecca, I always thought of Modern as stark cutting edge real- time tech like the Jetsons !
Great video, Rebecca! Looking forward to the next one (I am a prevailing mid-century modern fan).
You’re so fun to learn from, you are truly an inspiration!
I feel so understood by your definition of modern. It goes beyond home design. Contemporary could you also use the word Distinctive? Rebecca is truly a great design educator. Thanks so much.
Good Morning Rebecca, you're amazing, thank you for all this information!! Love your videos!!❤
U r the only person on the internet that I would allow to decorate every inch of my home. I wouldn’t even need to take a meeting with you. I know ow you would k peck it out of the park!!
Love the quiz. Thanks Rebecca. Highly recommended this to hone in your style. I’ve recommended this to all my friends.

Love both modern & contemporary styles and your quiz just confirmed that!
Amazing! Thank you Rebecca! You have cleared some cobwebs in thinking and made it simple!
i love your style and that ottamon with the pull out table.
Oh Wow! I just took the design style quiz and it was spot on! 33% contemporary 33% glam and 33% transitional. As an interior designer myself, I love watching and continuing to grow and learn from the best - you are amazing and inspiring! 🥰❤

Wow to Contemporary Design Styles! An artist at their best! Thanks for all the help Rebecca, as always you are the best!
Love being a member of your Design Seasions!! Hope you’ll do some instruction on putting together Transitional style effectively! ❤
This video is fantastically good. I’m definitely a contemporary… I like my place to look super sleek, clean, shiny, bold…you said it all. Thank you for your videos. I learn a lot in every of your videos. Great job !
Confirmed! Contemporary is my style. Thank you!
Love the clean and mimimal lines of both looks ...they are definitely what I love in an interior

I always learn something from your video's Rebecca and this is the best explanation I've seen on RUclips about these two styles. Thanks!
Love love love your show

OMG…..by your explanation I had it backwards and now understand I am modern and not contemporary. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love your outfits, too, especially the earrings.

Forbes features designer. We love your style’s.
I confused modern and contemporary. Thanks, Rebecca, I get it now!!! 😊
This was really interesting and helpful - also SO looking forward to the rest of the styles!
Thanks for sharing Rebecca! It appears I have modern and contemporary in my home.
Thanks Rebecca, So informative - Love 💖💖
Fantastic video! I was wrong, so very, very wrong! I had been looking at the modern style, thinking it was traditional. Stunning examples!
That pop of color or statement item is what many people miss that makes those homes from over minimalistic to wow contemporary.
Also, putting the drum lamp shades on my lamps really took my modern bedroom up a notch.
Ohhhhh wow what a beautiful home and some beautiful pieces ...this a brilliant and certainly refreshing my ideas. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I now realize my style is modern & not contemporary.
Great Ms. Robeson
NEEDED this ahead of my move-in. I’m leaning contemporary
Those two styles are so much alike and so different!!
I think any space you do in whatever style is gorgeous, making it difficult to determine my style when looking at your projects to determine my style.
Jussst love your style but more so your funny- ness. I not only learned but entertained but deep within I sensed your goodness!!❤️❤️❤️
The test confirmed my preference for the Scandinavian home feature. Thank you. I must admit your presentation for modern was very appealing.
Love the modern and contemporary differences you explained so well. I have a way better understanding of what my style might be. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Love your white top. I need one of those. 💗

La valla de vino es espectacular!🇩🇴
This was a great video!! I wasnt sure if i was modern or contemporary but my house is 100% modern. Its so nice to know that now. Thank you so much!!
I am thrilled that you are doing this series , Rebecca. 😀 l'm looking forward to next week's video. 😊

Interesting, but not me. We shall see how true my results will later. It wasn't either of these. But, I have learned a lot from You, Rebecca over the years I have been watching. Till next week, have a wonderful day.
So excited about this series. I'm mostly modern buy I like aspects of other styles like Japandi but I have a hard time fusing them together.
I love symmetry. Your outfits are awesome.❤
I would never want to see Ruth ,on a painting 🖌️🎨 over my fireplace she's definitely not my party!
Politics aside, if she’s not your grandma or beloved fav aunt….. why, just why? But most of the things and how that home was decorated, you couldn’t pay to live with.
i wouldnt choose Ruth either, but it is a wow factor.
@@audreyd3012 same. This style is my least favorite.

This is my first non-Christmas video from RR that I have streamed. Your Music and Sun Porch are equally lovely outside the holiday season. :) LOL
This one is mine modern and contemporary i love it thanks reb.
I'm modern with a love of colour. Those wine cork stools ❤❤❤❤
Very little of contemporary that I like, personaly. I apreciate in some else house but not in mine. I took the quiz but I didn't have the choices that I am really drawn to. Could not honesly make the choices I would make in real life. Was interesting though.

Great video!!! Finally got it!! Makes sense now!
I LOVED this. Thank you so much. OMG, yes, loved those earrings too. 😂
Thank you for this informative video
Was that a picture of Ruth Bader Ginsburg above the fireplace and that contemporary home?
Rebecca, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I finally can put a name to my style! Modern it is! 😅
I like modern but I also liked some of the contemporary lights and rugs and the cork stools .
