Rebecca, you are the master of symmetry! I could listen to you explain and illustrate this principle all day. As a member of your Design Sessions over these last two years, you have helped me improve my decor so much and your teaching me about symmetry has made the most difference. I am so grateful for what you do for us and send you my best wishes :)

I have such an appreciation for symmetry since following you, Rebecca. It is the secret to these beautiful room designs you have created. I also have more of an awareness of how larger items in a home (as long as its balanced) make far more of a statement than do many small items. This is another piece I picked up from your videos. You are not into a busy look but a serene look to a space. It makes such a difference and gives a far more high end look to a home. Please continue to instruct us in your design process. You make it fun, as well! Take care.

Hi Rebecca ! I use your symmetry lesson for my living room window curtains! My husband complained about why I wanted curtains too high and I said I learned from Rebbecca to hang curtains higher to make room bigger and create a wow effect. we have a small and big window in the living room and I did them similar heights and now look fabulous. Whoever visits my home says WOOOOW right way ! Thank you for teaching us !! 🤩🤩

I, too, am a person who needs symmetry. My current home is anything but symmetrical & it is, when I allow myself to think about it, truly stressful. The dreaded corner fireplace, windows in the kitchen and family room that are misplaced and not at all following any rules of symmetry and odd/weird spaces. I have wasted so much time, energy, and brain cells in an attempt to fix, mask, rearrange, and work around the architectural errors. I appreciate you, Rebecca and the options you share. A glimmer of hope!

Rebecca since I have been watching your videos, each time I decorate a room now , I see it differently. ANYBODY can just paint and wallpaper, but it’s how it’s done WITH A BIT OF THOUGHT , to make it just that much better and not just ORDINARY . Making it stand out makes all the difference. It actually adds so much value to a property , and makes it easier to sell if it looks fabulous. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ALL OF THEM 😁😁😁👍🇬🇧🌸🌺🌸🇬🇧

SYMMETRY = My OCD LOL 😂, in the house we purchased as our Forever Home and have done two renovations to it, to make it our Forever Home, we have this window in our little sitting area that isn’t centred on the wall, I picked up on it almost immediately But never said anything to my husband, long story short, we have lived here for almost 17 years and he’s only not long ago when we were doing our last renovation on our home noticed that the window wasn’t centred in the room Lol 😂, I’m thinking of getting a shear curtain to hang from side to side of the wall so I don’t have to look at it every day, the only problem is that our air conditioner unit sits above that window so I’m limited to the height I can hang the curtain rods. Great video Rebecca, Love your decorative skills and knowledge. I wish you could come and do my home one more time…but we’ve exhausted our renovations now and we’re happy enough with how everything turned out in the end. But being home owners there’s always something to improve on and that’s what we’re doing before hubby retires, then we can just sit back and relax and enjoy our home. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🐨🦘💖💖

I never knew why I love your work so much but you answered the question...symmetry! As you said, it produces clean lines and provides balance to a space. You are the only designer I've seen who understand the importance of symmetry. Most designer fail to "wow" me because there's no use of symmetry. They just bring a bunch of furniture into a room and place it there. Anybody can do that. Thank you for your wisdom!

My only thumbs down in all these years is the book display and now in this video, both the sofas at the sides of the TV screens. I agree that aesthetics is everything for a designer but what about practical TV watching and selecting the right book that you got to read?! TV room sofas have to face the TV, right? And the beautiful book covers that lure you ? I have seen in Oprah’s study ( don’t know whether they are real books ) where the books have been covered in white with a golden book title. May be she customised them ;)

In my living room, I have a window on one side of the fireplace, but not in the other side of it. To create symmetry, I put a long curtain rod over the window, the fireplace and over the blank wall with no window to create a faux window look with curtains hanging down in front of the wall. It really gave the living room more of a peaceful balance, and the edges of the curtains helped cover some flaws about the fireplace. On a budget, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta' do!

But the one thing that really gives me inner peace in my home is keeping it neat and tidy. It's much easier for me these days because my "littles" are grown. I wasn't as picky back then because your children are only small once and I wanted them to be happy and comfortable. But it is nice to have unexpected guests drop by now and not have to be embarassed about how my house looks.
