Rebecca, you are the master of symmetry! I could listen to you explain and illustrate this principle all day. As a member of your Design Sessions over these last two years, you have helped me improve my decor so much and your teaching me about symmetry has made the most difference. I am so grateful for what you do for us and send you my best wishes :)
I have such an appreciation for symmetry since following you, Rebecca. It is the secret to these beautiful room designs you have created. I also have more of an awareness of how larger items in a home (as long as its balanced) make far more of a statement than do many small items. This is another piece I picked up from your videos. You are not into a busy look but a serene look to a space. It makes such a difference and gives a far more high end look to a home. Please continue to instruct us in your design process. You make it fun, as well! Take care.
Hi Rebecca ! I use your symmetry lesson for my living room window curtains! My husband complained about why I wanted curtains too high and I said I learned from Rebbecca to hang curtains higher to make room bigger and create a wow effect. we have a small and big window in the living room and I did them similar heights and now look fabulous. Whoever visits my home says WOOOOW right way ! Thank you for teaching us !! 🤩🤩
❤ Love your ability to create symmetry even when there is an irregular non symmetrical space i.e. one window - recreate another on the other side with a mirror and window dressings - brilliant Becky 😊
Symmetrical designs and layouts are pleasing to the eyes as they create a balance. Just imagine how our faces and bodies would look if they were asymmetrical. I love symmetry ❤
I absolutely agree with symmetry being so pleasing to the eye and an integral part of decorating. What you did with the condo, which had the foyer hall, was absolutely brilliant! You are absolutely amazing in every single project you have ever done (that I have seen).
You are the true designer.. some of if these others on here don't have your knowledge and expertise. And your personality is fun without being overdone.
I always learn fabulous decorating ideas from you. You should create a book with all your decorating through the years in clients homes and yours. I would absolutely buy it. Thanks for showing and explaining symmetry. Your the best.
One of the best design videos I have seen to date. I found myself looking around my home and patio and realized why some things just never looked "right." Thank you so much!!
Serveral years ago I learned about symmetry from you and it has been my #1 takeaway design skill! Thank you for this reminder as I start to decorate my new second home in Florida this fall!♥
You are so right about why I love your work. Everything looks so clean and laid out and perfectly balanced. Yes, I love that symmetry. And that final view that you showed, oh my goodness, it was breathtaking. You are awesome!!!!!
Wow! I never thought about how symmetry is so important! Now I’m looking around my house I realize why there are some areas that look more peaceful and put together and that’s because those areas have symmetry and areas that don’t have symmetry seem cluttered to me. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!
I, too, am a person who needs symmetry. My current home is anything but symmetrical & it is, when I allow myself to think about it, truly stressful. The dreaded corner fireplace, windows in the kitchen and family room that are misplaced and not at all following any rules of symmetry and odd/weird spaces. I have wasted so much time, energy, and brain cells in an attempt to fix, mask, rearrange, and work around the architectural errors. I appreciate you, Rebecca and the options you share. A glimmer of hope!
Whenever I hear symmetry, my mind immediately goes to the magnificent palaces of Europe with their mathematically ornate gardens! Artisans and artists of the baroque era had a deep sense of symmetry oozing through their DNA!
Rebecca since I have been watching your videos, each time I decorate a room now , I see it differently. ANYBODY can just paint and wallpaper, but it’s how it’s done WITH A BIT OF THOUGHT , to make it just that much better and not just ORDINARY . Making it stand out makes all the difference. It actually adds so much value to a property , and makes it easier to sell if it looks fabulous. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ALL OF THEM 😁😁😁👍🇬🇧🌸🌺🌸🇬🇧
SYMMETRY = My OCD LOL 😂, in the house we purchased as our Forever Home and have done two renovations to it, to make it our Forever Home, we have this window in our little sitting area that isn’t centred on the wall, I picked up on it almost immediately But never said anything to my husband, long story short, we have lived here for almost 17 years and he’s only not long ago when we were doing our last renovation on our home noticed that the window wasn’t centred in the room Lol 😂, I’m thinking of getting a shear curtain to hang from side to side of the wall so I don’t have to look at it every day, the only problem is that our air conditioner unit sits above that window so I’m limited to the height I can hang the curtain rods. Great video Rebecca, Love your decorative skills and knowledge. I wish you could come and do my home one more time…but we’ve exhausted our renovations now and we’re happy enough with how everything turned out in the end. But being home owners there’s always something to improve on and that’s what we’re doing before hubby retires, then we can just sit back and relax and enjoy our home. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🐨🦘💖💖
Symmetry BABY Symmetry! 🥰 Even your initials are symmetrical. RR That condo window solution has to be my most favorite creative idea of yours to date. Yes, there are bathroom tiles and fireplace tiles and even wall moldings you drove your carpenters mad over, but that window salvation is off the charts epic! XO
🔊REBECCA!!! SO excited for this series! #1 Symmetry. I should have entered my small open concept living room but I'm not a member. I love how you explan & give examples! It makes so much sense
You’re also using the art concept of triangular placement, as in the triangle created by using a wider cabinet than the television. I like these design principle videos.
You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you so much for all the time you put into teaching us how to beautify our homes that God has blessed us with. May the Lord continue to bless you, Rebecca !!
Thank you for being YOU! From the first time I watched you explaining how to build and decorate a Christmas mantle , I have learned and USED so many of your lessons. THIS one is the TOPS. Ah HA so that is why it is so calming in some rooms......The way you point out how and WHY to do a design is wonderful. Please don't stop, who said you can't teach an old dog ( I'm 72) new tricks. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a wonderful day.
Oh my goodness!!! Who knew?! Something so simple. Every time I walk into one of my rooms now, the first thing I say is . . . does it have symmetry? I will never look at a room the same way again. Thank you Rebecca.
You have a beautiful home and so glad you decided to stay there and NOT built !! Your bedroom/office is such a great sanctuary to relax and to sleep. While I am not an all white decorator, you add just the right touches of color in your home with accessories. Thanks Rebecca ~
Wow! This probably my favorite video of yours! I feel like I learned so much from your examples from different rooms. When it's time I definitely want to sign up for your design sessions. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!
I’m a new subscriber of your channel. For years my husband has been telling me that even my garden outside looks like soldiers. I do love symmetry and I think that is why I’m loving your work sooo much. I go to people’s house and I’m always fixing their crooked artwork😊 Thank you for showing us how to have more beautiful and peaceful homes 🥰🥰🥰
I never knew why I love your work so much but you answered the question...symmetry! As you said, it produces clean lines and provides balance to a space. You are the only designer I've seen who understand the importance of symmetry. Most designer fail to "wow" me because there's no use of symmetry. They just bring a bunch of furniture into a room and place it there. Anybody can do that. Thank you for your wisdom!
I had the same issue in my room with only one window next to the bed. Ugh!! But I took your great suggestion and installed a mirror the same size as the window. Then I added window pane tape to both windows to create the perfect symmetry and installed a drapery panel to each. Love the look! I'm learning so much from all your tutorials!! Thanks Rebecca! From one of your many fans in San Diego!!!
I just found your channel a couple of days ago and have been watching your videos and taking notes. We will be moving out of our home and starting full renovations soon. Again...I am taking notes! Thank you for your content, I am eager to watch more!
That’s awesome angela. I’m so glad you’ve found us 🥰. With over 500 videos on the topic of designing a beautiful home, I’m confident you’ll pick up some very helpful ideas you can implement in your new home. Undertaking a renovation project is intense. You might find our digital library of design content very helpful as well. Click on the link in the description box below the video that says The Design Sessions… and check it out. I think you’ll find you’ve hit a gold mine on that platform 💪🏻👍🏻 RR
I'm so thankful for this video! I'm working on a fictional residential project for school and applying symmetry to the living room (TV and 2 shelves on the side) absolutely elevated my final render. Thank you so so much!
Before enrolling in the design sessions, I didn’t value symmetry over balanced asymmetry. I now strive to attain symmetry. I was most impressed when I saw that you used a mirror to create a window. I haven’t used that design trick yet, but I know I will eventually. ❤
I am a huge fan of yours Rebecca… I have been watching your RUclips videos since a very long time and would love to meet you sometime. My only thumbs down in all these years is the book display and now in this video, both the sofas at the sides of the TV screens. I agree that aesthetics is everything for a designer but what about practical TV watching and selecting the right book that you got to read?! TV room sofas have to face the TV, right? And the beautiful book covers that lure you ? I have seen in Oprah’s study ( don’t know whether they are real books ) where the books have been covered in white with a golden book title. May be she customised them ;)
Symmetry makes me calm also. The problem I have is my condo has a back wall that is on a long angle or slant, so nothing looks straight on it. 🤔 That condo was so beautiful when you were done.
My 1500 sf 1963 ranch is a roofed box built from blueprints drawn by guys who needed to develop lots quick and cheap. But your work shows me how to make silk purses out of sows ears.
videos like this have changed my life. My husband says I'm a mad woman . I decorate constantly when I watch your videos. Loved this one! Cant wait for Christmas.
DSmember. Love the symmetry. This is a great addition to our design library and follows the principle of flow. Your home has has come together beautifully but still looks cozy. ❤
In my living room, I have a window on one side of the fireplace, but not in the other side of it. To create symmetry, I put a long curtain rod over the window, the fireplace and over the blank wall with no window to create a faux window look with curtains hanging down in front of the wall. It really gave the living room more of a peaceful balance, and the edges of the curtains helped cover some flaws about the fireplace. On a budget, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta' do!
The eye loves symmetry. No doubt about it. But the one thing that really gives me inner peace in my home is keeping it neat and tidy. It's much easier for me these days because my "littles" are grown. I wasn't as picky back then because your children are only small once and I wanted them to be happy and comfortable. But it is nice to have unexpected guests drop by now and not have to be embarassed about how my house looks.
Before I press play. Im going to say the magic word is SYMMETRY

You are amazing! Love, love everything you do. Could watch you all day. You are one classy lady!
Rebecca, I love your window - mirror trick.
The home you have now is stunning…I just love it.
The idea of adding a mirror of a size of a window when having only one window is GENIUS !!! 👏👏👏
Just genius!!!
