Is that fellow saying the misting system will also kill bees and other pollinators? Not good. 😢 How about you get that pond going again and add a tiny solar fountain to get the water moving. There are also mosquito pucks you can put in standing water and kills mosquito larvae.
When we moved to a house that had mosquitos in the backyard, I planted lemon-scented pelargoniums, which basically is Citronella oil. The mosquitos disappeared! Also, I mix a 1-2 drops of organic geranium oil with a neutral carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, to prevent any mosquito bites on my skin.
No, please, get rid of the toxic mosquito spray. Plant a ton of lemongrass, it will drive them away. If you're keeping the pond, put mosquito fish in it.
I"m in the midwest, and we have TONS of mosquitoes. A few years ago I discovered that having about 10 - 12 basil plants scattered around (many in pots) works to keep the mosquitoes away! I think any plant that exudes a strong spicy scent would work.
Sadly, I don’t think she’s the type of person who cares much about a more natural approach to the mosquito issue. I didn’t even know that mosquito misting was a thing. Doesn’t smog have the same effect? 😂Maybe she should’ve stayed in San Diego…

Mosquitoes harbor in lots of foliage, a pond/stream and pool. Plus the spraying kills other insects, some of those same insects may be there to help kill mosquitoes such as: dragon flies, crane flies Birds, frogs, tadpoles, fish, toads, salamanders, spiders, and many types of insects all play vital roles in keeping the mosquito population at bay. Some creatures, like the small brown bat, can catch up to 600 mosquitoes in just one hour.
Very excited about the foyer update! Originally I was skeptical about Sharrah painting her entry, but she was 100% correct. I think your space will open up magically when it gets painted. And with the mirrors? Gonna be fab! Good luck on all this and thanks for bringing us along.
I don't believe Sharrah painted the whole steps. She left the banister natural wood and I think part of the steps. I loved what she did. It really brightened up her entryway. Not so much a fan of dark wood.
I live in Florida & had a mosquito problem. I called my county, they came out, looked all over the property & sprayed. They also went to my neighbors properties & listed all the things they could do to avoid the problem, ie standing water, pots lying around with water, etc. What I learned was there are daytime & night time mosquitos, so I had them in the house during the day. Once we all did our due diligence, problem solved! Also, I installed bat houses in my trees😊 they eat millions of mosquitos every night❤
Mosquito dunks are the absolutely best in getting rid of the problem. Outdoor planters, french drains, bird baths, wet shady areas, gutters- just crumble them up and sprinkle everywhere. They are not poisonous and do not kill good bugs and insects. They work by essentially making mosquitoes sterile. Best thing ever. I live in the tropics and know. Even with the misting system, get to your hardware store and get them. I not only treat my yard, but nearby ditches and areas of retreating water.
I live in a city which has a separate landing strip at the airport for mosquitoes 😅. Have you tried mosquito dunks? They are little discs you put in standing water to kill mosquito larvae and each 1 lasts a month. Only kills the mosquito larvae ... not other beautiful insects like butterflies. I hope your renovation of the water damaged areas has water shut off valves. I was taught to always shut off water to your house when away so you don't get water damage.
Love the decision to paint the woodwork in the entryway to brighten it up. Older homes can be quite dark which is not always how we want to live now. You have transformed your home in those 3 years 🌟
I’m building under stairs storage for the first time ever! Rebecca your early videos inspired me to take on so many projects on my own. You are my fav designer. Don’t stress so much about keeping up with the younger designers, you hold your own just fine.
I am not sure why large mirrors are criticized and said to be outdated. I placed a wall-to-wall mirror on one wall of my living room to open it up and brighten it. People seem surprised that I did this. It is composed of plain mirrored blocked, each beveled. There is no gold veins effect or smokiness, just plain.
❤❤❤I’m so happy you're staying in your beautiful home and am looking forward to all the new changes in the works. Paint the stairs, and keep the molding thick!! Christmas 2024 is going to be a show-stopper, I'm sure. ❤❤❤
Please give some assurance that the ingredients in the mosquito mister spray are safe for good insects. If it contains pyrethrins and permethrin, it may kill beneficial insects such as honeybees, ladybugs, butterflies, and other non-target species.
Aww Becky, I don't know why, but I was so glad to hear you have decided to stay! I love you and your channel so much❤ You bring me so much joy. I have physical challenges temporarily, and seeing your channel was like taking a big breath of life!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for being unapologetically Y-O-U!!!!!!!! NOBODY CAN DO IT LIKE BECKY!!!!❤XOXOXO LUV YA, GURL!!!!!
If the mosquito mist kills the little demons, what does it do to humans who breathe it??? But the entryway will look spectacular when it's finished. Can't wait!
The paint Rebecca with the mirrors will make your entryway seem larger. Plus it will make it more inviting. Love your Home over all and i don't blame you for not wanting to move!
Your entry looked beautiful last year at Christmas! But, I think the changes that you are making to it will make it even more beautiful!! Love seeing your projects---always gives me ideas.
Good Luck Rebecca on all your projects. I am a design member and am grateful for all your wisdom and generosity in sharing your knowledge. You’re the best.
I’m so happy you are staying in Tulsa. I feel honored to have you in our state. Thank you for using and promoting the local businesses. You and your designs are beautiful inside and out.
I’m buying my first home. It’s a shoebox, old and I have no budget to do anything to increase the size or update anything. I’m about to get very crafty and creative.
YOUR home... YOUR decor ... and not to overlook your sense of humor ... all so enjoyable. Love it. And the ring?? Priceless. Thinking more seriously of joining your design sessions. 🤔
Love that you are staying in this home! Do what you want in your home including paint. We come to you for design advice. People are too reaistant to change or repairs

A tip for living mosquitoes-free in OK. Live near a lake where the wind never stops blowing. We got lucky and bought a house one street over from a lake near Tulsa. The wind rarely stops blowing and it keeps the mosquitoes away. After almost 4 years, you could count on one hand how many we have seen! Love that, since mosquitoes LOVE me!
Looking forward to seeing all your projects whether garage, new bathroom or entryway! You asked what projects we are working on. I'm in the process of closing up one of the outside doors that haven't been used since 2008. There was an old deck outside the kitchen that we tore down because it was partially rotted. The door has remained a bit of an eye sore, but I'm taking care of that along with some other things on that side of the house.
I use mosquito dunks, citronella plants, and lemongrass plants in pots around my patio. Not 100% effective, but does help. Web research says mosquitoes dislike the smell of citronella, peppermint, cedar, catnip, patchouli, lemongrass, lavender, rosemary, scented geranium, and basil too. Haven’t tried all of these, but may give them a try too.
Understand the mosquito problem very well. They cause huge welts on me that last for days but I would never put in anything that would kill other insects, EVER. Find something natural to use and don’t put chemicals into our environment.
You are very correct about --when we keep throwing money at a room ---a new lamp anew chair======and we get nowhere-----you can buy what you love and make it work but you still need an overall plan-------thank R.R. Everything looks really good---😊
Rebecca, I love seeing what you're up to!❤ After 20 yrs in my home, I can no longer sit and enjoy my front porch anymore. Where did all the mosquitoes come from?? Why my house?? What has changed??🤷🏽♀️🤔💭🚫 Columbia, South Carolina🌴
Glad to know you’re staying in Tulsa, single life is great and you’re tackling issues that all homeowners have to deal with. I’ve been following for over 10 years and thoroughly enjoy your channel, sense of humor, faith and can’t wait for Christmas 2024! ❤️
Bravo to you. I could never live in OKie 😟.lots of fracking & broken walls in homes. Your house is beautiful & I’m sure historical areas are safe. I couldn’t paint the staircase, but if you’re staying…you should be happy. You can add small mosquito disk to ponding water. It keeps water from larvae or breeding.
I believe your foyer/staircase is going to dramatically change everything. It will be soooo inviting, bright and cheerful and you won't feel you are entering a dark area. You are going to love it. And I really like seeing what you do to YOUR house. I like seeing other people's homes also, but my preference is to see what you do to your home. Have fun with all these remodels!!!
Love seeing the updates of the house. Yes! Painting the stairs is going to be an amazing impact. I can’t wait to see the final result. Also love the pool house re-do, but sorry for the bursted pipes. We just had to do a partial re-pipe here. What a mess. Finally getting paint done. Next up is kitchen remodel.
Good luck with that Kitchen remodel Cecelia… hope you’re a member of The Design Sessions for that one. So many decisions and choices to make. I wish you the best as you embark on this next project 👍 RR
Currently working on window treatments in my bedroom, and your window treatment video has been my savior. Aiming to update all windows in my home before the end of summer. Your videos have been so helpful. Thanks Rebecca!!
The installer said that it will kill ALL the bugs, even the beneficial ones. Also, what happens if you accidentally inhale some of that mist? I'd be a little worried. Looking forward to seeing your bathroom remodel.
I mix lavender and water in a spray bottle… I spray myself or the area. I used to use cheap lemon soap w/water and spray my yard , especially if having company. All bugs and spiders hate it.
Hi Rebecca, I love the fact that you have decided to paint your staircase white, it will lighten and brighten your entryway beautifully and with that mirrored wall going upsairs, wowsers! Glam overload!!! I would even go so far as to paint out all the wood trim throughout your home including the window trim, just sayin’. With regard to the mosquito problem, I recently heard about and purchased the Thermacell Patio Shield mosquito protection unit that comes with a little butane canister and heating pads that release a repellent in to the air for up o 15’ of protection for the small unit and several hundred for the larger units. It works by disrupting the mosquito’s sensors so that they don’t come near the area when turned on. Genius! Now I can sit on my porch at night without having to close the screens and not one mosquito crosses the barrier. There’s no scent and no zapping noise just mosquito free heaven. You can buy ‘em on Amazon! I can’t wait to see your next video. I subscribed to your channel a long time ago and always look forward to watching your amazing videos! Keep ‘em coming! ❤
Thanks for sharing! Would you consider making your detached garage into an attached garage? Then you could easily enter/exit your garage without ever leaving your house. Maybe this could be done by adding a hallway with a door that attaches your main home to your garage? I think this would be helpful when it’s raining or snowing or just extremely hot outside. You don’t need to enter or exit your car in bad weather just to enter or exit your home. 😊
Rebecca, I love your show. I watch it all the time and I hear you! I just recently moved to Oklahoma myself and yes, the mosquitoes are pretty bad but I found that if you plant lavender around your doorways and rosemary and then use eucalyptus oil on yourself mosquitoes does not like eucalyptus or lavender, that helps. Hope that works for you also. Love you. Keep doing what you do.
That comment had me literally laughing out loud, that and "it's goin in the bank" and slips the remote in her bra, ohh she tickles me with her fabulous self.
I LOVE you!! I found metal shelves someone was throwing away and because of your basement and shelves I got them and put them in my basement Christmas closet. Now my Christmas closet is organized and easy to negotiate! You give me so MANY ideas, thank you!!❤
I’m looking into painting my wood trim (and windows and doors), white, to match my walls. I think it will make my home look 30 years younger! I like what you’re doing to your house.
Rebecca!! lol. You are hilarious!! I loveee lovee loveeee your designs and really just everything you do. But your jokes just crack me up!! Your videos are SO MUCH FUN!!!
Hi Rebecca, you are so full of energy, what vitamins do you take? I love you and your channel. My husband and I recently purchased a home and found it to be a "Money Pit". I am glad you mentioned your design classes, I need help! We are fortunate that we don't live in the house and can remodel without living in it. We ask ourselves, what have we done, we are Seniors, and we should be saving our money, not spending, but... Thank you for sharing.
I live in a large luxury 1-bedroom plus den apartment which is decorated in the traditional design style I love the best: 9-ft ceilings, white woodwork and trim, crown molding and huge windows! Pale beige walls which I love because I can't stand anything gray - sorry! I've finally decided on my living room and bedroom curtains and they're turning out just the way I want: interesting but simple, not fussy. I'm leaving my den window uncovered because that's the sewing room and I'm on the 3rd floor looking out at trees, so it's just beautiful. Also working on getting just the right lamps for each room. It's such a treat to be able to decorate a gorgeous apartment just the way you want it! Thanks for all the inspiration!
Thank you. I’m in Dallas- Fort Worth area and will have my misters installed on Monday - thank you for suggestion!!! I’ll make sure in the review to mention you and your channel as the impetus to the idea!!! ❤
standing water is the reall mosquito breeding ground. get rid of any standing water, specially thos in your plant saucer, adding some water fall/fountain device in the pool to make sure the water is flowing, I live in Singapore, a city with a lot of greenery and mosquito is treated carefully here, every now and them ppl will come to my house to check if i have any standing water issue
Oh Rebecca! If you lived in the UK you would never describe your double garage as ‘very tight’. What I’ve got is a ‘very tight’ single garage. I’m always amazed at the size of homes in the US - I think I should consider a relocation across the pond, lol. Great idea to paint the staircase BTW - that’s exactly what I would have done too. Can’t wait to see it!
Yes, I have been working on several projects. One is a 750 sq ft space. I repainted and redecorated the four and half rooms that make up the space, a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bath and laundry that shares space in the bathroom. I removed cabinets and the ones that are left I’m in the process of painting. Very excited on how it turned out so far and I’m hoping that the cabinet makeover turns out well. It has taken me since February to do it, but I have done 99 percent of it on my own with my husband helping to remove cabinets and put up the shelves in place of the cabinets. Very excited about getting it finished. I also would like to redo the steps going to the upstairs, but hat will have to wait for another day. I’m sure all of your projects will turn out fabulous as usual. ❤❤❤
So hope that installation will resolve the mosquito issue. I am still healing the areas that were itchy from our mosquitoes. They are even bigger in Northern Minnesota. With all.the rain thos year they are unreal. Can carry diseases too.
I love your house Rebecca. I had no idea you have done all that work to it in just three years and along with filming and traveling. I don't know how you do it. Cannot wait to see how the entry turns out and the new bathroom area. Thank you for the tour.
Ok I have good question for you ! We purchased our house and chose Bella Cera wood flooring for almost the entire main level . Knowing that we would rip out builders grade carpet . Not realizing that they discontinue model numbers/ colors every ten min. That being said we matched the color very closely same width etc. Tore out builders grade carpet and just finished the bedroom . Now we would like to tear out dining room same situation. This room more closely connects to entryway flooring color . What to do ?? Match as closely as possible same width boards . We really do not want to go with carpet again . We would like to continue with wood . Here’s the thing when you purchase a home that’s being built you can only afford so many options . We have learned that structural changes are the most important andthe rest if we are able to do, we do ourselves but this is an issue ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We emigrated from 🇬🇧 to Texas - the mosquitos love us 😢 we installed a huge lanai so we could enjoy our outdoor space and pool. Lanais are not common in Texas and it was Expensive but well worth every penny.
Hey Rebecca! What an exciting video! So many new and fun announcements. Something I've been pondering on in the last little while is what ever happened to your addition idea? Has that been completely scrapped or are you waiting for a future date?
Rebecca, did you hear the man say it kills other bugs to? Everyone is have their property spray. People are killing bugs, birds are eating bugs, what is it doing to the birds? Not to mention bees & butterflies. Those bugs everyone are killing propagate plants that we eat, flowers we enjoy. But as long as you’re not getting bit. 😢
Firstly, I love your design and your personal life videos. I've been a fan for years. As a serious asthmatic who struggles breathing every day, I am a little concerned about the chosen solution and the possible impact on any neighbours' health issues as well as any visitors to your beautiful home. I hate 🦟 but they love me too! 😅 So I do understand! My other concern is that whilst the solution may ease the mosquito issue, at the same time, it will cause a serious threat to the overall ecological system of insect species in your area. Beautiful butterflies are so rare these days. We need more natural solutions. 🦋
Purple Martin Bird House. $130.00 Open up the doors in early spring and these beauties do ALL the work!!! They come back every year. They look like purple swallows and they are Magnificent flyers too!🐦. I spent 20 yrs in Tulsa & Ponca City,Oklahoma. I am new to your videos and want to say Thank You for the great Inspiration and enthusiasm you share. HAPPY SWATTING!!💚💚
I’m so envious of your ability. How many things I need. My husband’s was the handle man, now I’m alone trying to do it on my own. 69 now so I’m like just keep going girl, I can’t imagine having a boyfriend and ever-time I’ve hired help so disappointing. So I try to make it work. Love you
First time I saw your staircase I thought I would paint that white. It will make such a difference. I am all for preserving beautiful things but you are not destroying the staircase and we have to live in the present. Can’t wait to see it.
I hate, hate mosquitoes, mostly because I am allergic to most bites and always end up at the doctors for the newest medication before my face and body get so itchy and so bad it would drive me nuts...love your home and I am glad you will stay, it's going to be lovely, wooden it's a building material, even painted the wood will be there, I never knew why painting wood was such a no, no...brighter, lighter and for sure happier...yes still water is a mosquito playground.
You're spraying the exact active ingredient we use to kill bugs in our greenhouse and we use charcoal mask to spray them so we don't expose ourselves to harmful chemicals. There are safer ways to get rid of your mosquito problem. I see from many of the comments they've given you some great alternatives
Love you too! 💕🌸 Thank you for the inspirations. My husband and I are just finishing a kitchen renovation. I did away with hanging light fixtures over the island and replaced them with pot lights. Added sconces on either side of my bay window at the kitchen sink. Just waiting for countertops to be installed, but already loving the updated look of no visual distraction. Thank you for your enthusiasm, passion, always being mindful of costs. Oh and I am a member too! 💕. Next blinds !
Rebecca , any water that is standing still ( not chlorinated) like your pool . But bird baths, ponds allow mosquitoes to lay eggs and multiply .if you keep your pond … put an aerator pump in it to avoid those nasty buggars
Not sure how you feel about bats but.... If you hang bat houses, most people use goards, bats eat thousands of mosquitos each night. They stay up high and do not bother people. I don't know if you can wear them in the water, but I use to put spiral bracelets on my granddaughter and me on each wrist and ankle. It helped so much. We could sit on patio, chase lightening bugs, etc. Girlfriend, you are looking great!❤ Tyfs HUGS 🙏🌽🍓🍉🌼🌹
I loved hearing the review of whats wrong/right with the whole house. I was planning on building another house, but I can add on much cheaper than building. I haven't finalized that decision , but I've had 3 homes built, and I tell myself that we need to stay put.❤
Just finished pulling off wallpaper (x 3 different layers), painting and retrimming molding. Next up: pulling up parkay flooring and replacing with laminate.
Hola Rebecca, creo ser tu fan mas antigua!! mas de 13 years!!! he seguido parte de tu vida y carrera, que bueno que conserves esa casa tan hermosa, y que por fin no more mosquitos!!
Due to a water leak in our garage behind the washer my husband was willing to tackle our drain issue that I’ve wanted to address for 19 years! While we were visiting family in Texas 6/8-6/12 we had a plumber come trench new drain paths. Now I’m getting new flooring for the entire downstairs (trench affected three rooms) so new paint, crown molding and baseboards. Then new living room furniture. This process is all very new for me. I’m learning to rethink everything.
SHOUT OUT TO THESE TRADESMEN WHO DO THIS WORK. We couldn’t survive without them.
Mosquitoes do not like lemongrass and catnip plants. Your daughters stairs look better dark sorry 😢, I like moody.

@lorijacson872 , And she can add the Zevo in her outlets inside the home. I'm not sure if they're toxic or not, but its a thought .

What are mosquito dunks and where do you buy them? Thank you for a reply if you get a chance.
I'm going to Google mosquito
Dunks .oops
@maggiepadilla6915 The actual name is called Mosquito Dunks.
Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes etc all carry them.

🐝🪲🐞so true!
The bug guy told her it would kill other bugs. So that means the good bugs are goners too. 😢

Everything looks really good---😊
I second the mosquito dunks to add to your pond until you get it running again. 😊 just for the extra help!
Hope your mosquito mister does not kill the bees. We really need them.
Neem oil REBECCA you can add it to whatever skin care you use. It’s worth the little bit of research due to the fact that it’s not toxic like deet
Yes… the wider molding on the step is perfect❤
I mix lavender and water in a spray bottle… I spray myself or the area. I used to use cheap lemon soap w/water and spray my yard , especially if having company. All bugs and spiders hate it.
Bugs love me too, my husband and sons never get bitten….but…they use Irish Spring soap and bugs hate Irish spring, so I am going to try it!
Yes lighten it up. Thicker treads
So glad you have decided to stay in TULSA!!!
Standing water draws mosquitoes…need to get rid of that or nothing will work..
Yes, a French drain may help get rid of the standing water.
or turn it back into a nice pond with a waterfall or something to keep that water moving..
there are remote fountains she could put in the pond to move the water
What are the ingredients in the mosquito mist? Is frequent exposure to the chemicals in the mist safe for you, kids and pets?
“This is when my kids need to come and see if they’re in my will.”
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I can totally relate 🤣
That comment had me literally laughing out loud, that and "it's goin in the bank" and slips the remote in her bra, ohh she tickles me with her fabulous self.
Just turn your pond on. ❤️
You get to experience all four seasons there, NICE. We here in East Tennessee do too that's why I LOVE it here so much.
Rebecca!! lol. You are hilarious!! I loveee lovee loveeee your designs and really just everything you do. But your jokes just crack me up!! Your videos are SO MUCH FUN!!!
Awwww… thank you. I believe life is so much more enjoyable when you can find little things to make you laugh 👍🏻 RR
Indoor plug-in flying insect traps really work and the ones they make now are aesthetically pleasing.
Any standing water will draw mosquitoes to breed. Also make sure the gutters on your house don’t get plugged and build up water…
Thank you. I’m in Dallas- Fort Worth area and will have my misters installed on Monday - thank you for suggestion!!! I’ll make sure in the review to mention you and your channel as the impetus to the idea!!! ❤
I love when you film things in your home!
I live in Tulsa as well and I'm fixing to remodel my kitchen. And I'm so very overwhelmed.
standing water is the reall mosquito breeding ground. get rid of any standing water, specially thos in your plant saucer, adding some water fall/fountain device in the pool to make sure the water is flowing, I live in Singapore, a city with a lot of greenery and mosquito is treated carefully here, every now and them ppl will come to my house to check if i have any standing water issue
You can plant certain plants that help with mosquitoes-basil marigolds thyme lavender and they smell amazing
I love your staircase! I just bought an old house and it has a lot of wood panels and trim. I'm so happy to see how you decorated around yours.
So hope that installation will resolve the mosquito issue. I am still healing the areas that were itchy from our mosquitoes. They are even bigger in Northern Minnesota. With all.the rain thos year they are unreal. Can carry diseases too.
Avid gardener here! A few lovely pots by the door with marigolds, citronella, or bee balm will help greatly as a deterrent and add charm. ❤
Are you planning on using foam to insulate the pool house to avoid freezing again? ❤❤
Hi Rebecca I don’t like bugs especially ones that bit you your stairs are gonna look beautiful when it’s painted love from Ellen xx
Those mirrors make such a HUGE difference!
OMG… ok, I’m going to get one?!!
Love your response. Thank you… and BTW, welcome to my channel 👍🏻 RR
Love this video, a nicely edited view of your life with you sharing your thoughts and designs. Feels like 'Welcome Back!' is in order!
I forgot to tell you. The bracelets were at WM. And they are citronella.
We bought a tiny apartment with a large terrace. So much fun designing and working on it. ❤
