Oscar is a whole mood, honestly.
It's also his birthday today. (I know this, because I own the really amazing Ultimate Guide to Sesame Street.) So Happy...or I guess I should be saying Unhappy Birthday, Oscar!
Oh, and thanks for 8,000 subs! I seriously can not believe this channel has that many subscribers. But I'm so glad so many people are enjoying my Sesame Street content.

i'm sorry but the fact that Oscar calls cookie monster by just "Cookie" it's the most wholesome part of oscar and i'm living for it

Oscar is so important man. His whole role is showing kids you're ALLOWED to not be happy all the time. You can be grumpy and mad, and express that! He sets boundaries VERY clearly, he tells people to go away when he wants to be alone and grumpy in his can. The other cast is great at showing happy stuff and how to handle less happy feelings, but kids should know you can just be upset sometimes and that's okay. He's an icon of healthy boundaries.
Every feeling is okay. Whatever you do with your feelings is what really matters about them! Really young kids will think Oscar is mean because of his temper and misery which make him intend to spoil everyone else’s fun! Anyone older might not really take him as seriously probably because the Muppets started out as characters that were supposed to amuse adults.
"Me slightly lachrymose!" We don't give enough credit to how well-written Cookie Monster is.
It really adds another layer to him, so he's not just one-dimensional.

I have to be honest - this is the first time in my 35 years on Earth that I've heard the word "lachrymose". Had to look it up. Cookie's vocabulary is remarkably advanced for a monster who never uses the correct singular first person pronoun.

Meanwhile, he has to take a minute to think of something that starts with "H" and comes up with "hop"
Sesame Street: teaching your kids so much, they'll know the existence of SAT-level words before they hit puberty
His grammar is different and reflects how kids learn it.

I never really realized how much emotion they convey through voice and simple actions, their faces show almost nothing.
Jim Henson puppets are renowned for their range of emotion, especially compared to puppets used in early television programs. They're also known to have likeable designs that don't delve into the uncanny valley unlike other puppets at the time, like Peppermint Park.

That's the beauty of being a Muppet Performer. They're able to get across exactly what the characters are feeling with said simple motions. Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Richard Hunt, Fran Brill, Kathy Mullen, Dave Goelz, Jerry Nelson, Steve Whitmire, Kevin Clash, Carol Spinney, Martin Robinson and so on deserve all the credit they get for making them so real.

I always liked the aesthetic of Grouch technology in the show, everything Grouch-made has this faded splattered beige tone, with tattered rust around the edges, all their windows have a thick layer of grime. It contrasts so nicely with the clean city-park feel that all the rest of Sesame Street has.
