- Hello! Welcome to Mart's Garage. In this video I tackle a simple but important job. I dismantle, inspect and rebuild the clutch and brake master cylinders. These Girling master cylinders are very common on British cars and what I show here would be relevant for most models.
Thanks for joining me once again in Mart's Garage.

In this throw away world, nice to see a guy rebuilding parts.
Cheers Multi. These cars are from an era when rebuilding was the norm.
Professional done Mart
I can't imagine when I'll ever have occasion to work on a master cylinder from a 100E (though I once did a similar job on an Austin 1100 back in the 70s when i couldn't afford garage bills), but I have to say I found this enthralling - and you explained it a lot more clearly than my Haynes manual!
Splendidly done old school stuff and I can even smell the old workshop oil and grease I’ve an old MGF mk2 now considered a classic so I’m working and watching always learning you know you’re onions keep on going.
Hi Goget. I don't know how to do new school. Having a mig welder is pretty state of the art for me. Thanks for watching and commenting!
nice cylinder build mart
Hi Pete. Good to see your name pop up here. Thanks Mate.
Nice work 👍👍👍✔️
Thanks Thomas.
Great job there mart
Nice job on the cylinders Mart.
Loving these videos proper craftsmanship
Thanks Martin.
Job well done Mart. I remember when there were dozens of these on the roads in NZ. Most of ours rusted too. A mate of mine had one, it wouldn't "pull a sick sailor of your sister" but it was a lot of fun. I considered a 107E as my first car but got a IIIB Minx instead.
Looking good!
Thanks Roger!
MART I THINK YOU WOULD TRULY ENJOY A MOVIE CALLED THE WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN. STARING SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS A MUST SEE IN MY OPINION
Hi Frankie. You're right. That is one of my favourites. I managed to see it at a cinema when it first came out. Excellent film. Had the DVD too. Thanks for watching. Mart.
Good stuff
Cheers Paul, thanks for watching.
You did a day go on good job chap
Cheers Ray.
This is looking very interesting. Excuse me while I rewind to episode 1.... 👍
Hey, Bill, be my guest!
@@MartsGarage Much obliged...
Good luck with this little project Mart. Hope you have a lot of fun with it once it's back on the road.
Cheers Finto. Luckily for me I find it fun even before it hits the road.
Another good tutorial Mart. Project is coming along well. Was that your pet spider under the dash? 😀The only thing I would have done additionally would have been to "bench bleed" the cylinders before installing. It just speeds up the bleeding process later.
Hi Mike. I never noticed that spider until I just watched the video through just now. They don't bother me. These don't tend to need a bench bleed, the ones we put on Geoff's Zephyr bled really easily. It will be a while before these see any fluid, though, as the welding work has jumped to higher priority.
I never have used a rubber hose to make a hone. Normally I find a wood dowl rod that is close in size. Where those cylinders aluminum or zinc?
Hi Galen. I believe they are aluminium. Thanks for watching.
Very interesting that corrosion on the brake and clutch cylinders. What type of metal are they? I wonder if the corrosion is due to the car being positive earth?
Hello NotMark. The cylinders are aluminium. I think the corrosion is just natural, I heard something about pos/neg earth and corrosion, but don't know enough about it. The car was in a coastal environment so that may be more significant. Thanks for watching.
