Hi "Pat", this one looks like it has way more rust than your old daily drive to work van! Engine swap? Some folk put twin cam Alfa engines in!! Have fun.
@@MartsGarage Slowly at the moment due to the heat and long, hot days in the kitchen where I work 🙄. I bought it blind on the promise from the seller that it was a good one and I'm pleased to find out that it's rather a good one.
Hello Hans. This one is quite early. Your Dad's might have been a slightly later model. My Dad had one also when I was a kid. I do remember it had no heater (like this one also has no heater). It was a 4 door Prefect.
Just stumbled across this video and looking forward to watching the next two episodes. I have a 1956 100e Anglia. Black with red interior just like yours with 24k miles on the clock. Came to the end of a long , full mechanical overhaul and engine re build last year and she is back on the road now I’m pleased to say. Besides all the welding / bodywork that needs looking at you seem to have found yourself a good example everything seems to be where it should be bar one or two little things. It’s nice to see another with its original grille still in place and kidney style dash. Spares are still readily available but can get costly. Wishing you the best of luck 👍🏻
Thanks S. Thanks for the comment. I hope I can Keep all the interesting early parts in place, with some exceptions, brakes for example. Trying to keep it real world and a little future p[roofing where I can.
I had a two tone red and white estate. It had vacuum windscreen wipers 😩The faster you drove the slower the wipers worked😂My mate poured a pint of engine oil into the carb after i asked him to check the oil. My fault for not having an air cleaner. It never worked again😂
Credit to the seller, he photographed it warts and all. The interior looks good, so that's not a money pit. A decent deal. (I'm older than you. We could have bought these for the cost of 20 fags and a Mars bar)... Sneaking feeling that I'm going to enjoy this channel. You're a braver man than me, Gunga Din...👍
Brings back memories as a teenager in the sixties, we bought 😢one of these for a tenner. My brother drove it down the back lane without brakes and crashed into a neighbour's new MG 1300. We sold the car for £18 to pay for the damage. Those were the days!
Gonna be a bit before it runs again? Perhaps a french ford v8 swap? 5 speed OD transmitten? Stronger narrow differential? That style of ash tray must be a British thing? My 1961 Morris Minor 1000 had a couple of those ash trays in it. I think my 1959 Triumph Standard 10 had similar ash tray too? The throttle in my Morris was basically an "On and Off" switch. take off in 1st.. throttle on the floor. Lift, shift to 2nd, back on the floor... Same for 3rd and 4th gears. The 948cc engine was a bit weak.
Had one myself many years back, sure the workshop manual is about somewhere. I also still have my first car Cresta 56 ,which is now in a similar condition to this 😢
Half expected to see your SWMBO stood at the door, hands on hips!! Going to be very busy Mart the chassis work alone is daunting. Best of luck. My first motor was a 55 100e van in 64 (£15) Bernard.
Nice one Mart, I've been looking for one of those for a while (they do have a Flathead). But I want a driver so they are a bit expensive here in Sweden. Looking forward to seeing your progress, on this one.
Congratulations on the new fixer upper! You should be able to get one or two episodes worth of content out of that one eh? Haha Looking forward to watching the rebuild!
Hey Mart! that would be a kool car when its bone! are there big doins over there today, because of the Coronation , my wife and I are watch it on TV , Thanks
Another 3-bar on the road to recovery. £921 (plus delivery) I would say is a bargain for a project car. My son (16) has been watching your videos for the last few weeks and thought it was about time I started as well. As can be seen from my profile picture (and channel), we are fellow 100e owners. I'm sure videos like this have given him the knowledge and inspiration to get on with some of the smaller niggles that our 'Lizzie' has. As he is one of the next generation of classic car owners, I do my best to encourage him. Ours is a Feb 1956 registered Anglia Deluxe with plenty of history. She was already restored and roadworthy when we purchased her, nearly 5 years ago so any work we have done has been around keeping her on the road or reversing some of the modifications she has had over the years (removal of an electric fuel pump, a source of a breakdown, for instance). The biggest job we have done is a gearbox swap, thankfully something we had in the parts inventory that we bought with her. Our biggest test with 'Lizzie' is to come, 107 miles to Gaydon later this month for the Small Ford Event.
Glad you found me. It's good to encourage the youngsters. Well done on the gearbox swap. I watched the test drive video after the swap. Hopefully I will bump into you at Gaydon. I assume you mean the Old Ford Rally on the 21st. Cheers!
@MartsGarage yes, I keep calling the Small when I mean Old... I might get it right at some point. Please come and say hello if you do see us. Hopefully we will be part of the Ford Sidevalve Owners Club section, if they have one. I'm looking forward to seeing some other Es. Since the video we have done some small, quality of life jobs, like replacing the seats for the originals, new brake shoes on the front due to a squeal and sorting a couple of electrical niggles.
I would drop a turbo 2JZ in it, run it on alcohol, 6 speed sequential trans, 9 inch and a huge rear spoiler. I mean, just guessing on the trans; I can drive a stick in my head, but not on the road.
That's a bit of luck the engine turning Mart. I think you will have to start by building a sheet metal brake as it looks like you'll need a few top-hat repair sections, interesting.
@@MartsGarageSharing kit is always useful, can you get him to tin one of the repair parts, I thought that brake reservoir he did looked great and I'd like to know how it is done.
I was just thinking where is he going to put it and work on it. I love it, going to need a little work here, going to need a litte work there ------😂 Kinda like my neighbor. She has three cars and now just added four motorcycles! There are days she ask to use my driveway. Wonder why?😂
@@MartsGarage hi Mart,to put my comment into context...in mid seventies I sold a 37 Lincoln zephyr for 100 quid!!!!! And it was in better nick than your 100 e😅😅
You can do it Mart!! Seized engine gives you the perfect opportunity to chuck a flattie in there! 😁😁 Edit: Ok, so it's NOT seized....but it still needs a flattie! 😂

God a little bit of rust , you will end up sweeping it up in a dust pan and brush, hope you have a good welder.

OKAY, quite a project Mart. Will be watching to see where this series goes.

Maybe the coil feed is via a resisted wire, the third wire being direct from the starter solenoid. Just a thought.
