Dear Viscountess, Julie, I would like to pass on a suggestion. Here in the US, lighting stores usually recommend using over a 5k - 7k kelvin light temperature. It will allow you to have white rather than yellow or orange light, misleading people to perceive the colors. I am willing to bet if you contact your local lighting distributor they will be able to provide you with beautiful white light that will make your wonderful white ceiling glow and bring out the vibrant colors you will have in your exhibition. The Viscount must be very proud of his wife! Sincerely, Rob
Julie, I really believe that Mapperton couldn't find a better Countess in waiting than you. Your enthusiasm, dedication and sheer willingness to do whatever it takes to preserve the family history is a lesson to us all. If Alberta was here today, be assured she would be your greatest cheer leader. You are a blessing to Mapperton, Luke and the whole family.
Julie, thank you for not editing out the emotions. So many times in my life as a working mom of 4 I was ashamed of the emotions. Even here, in California, being stoic is expected of "women of a certain age". I love the work you are doing to restore the collection and how you have embraced your husband's heritage. Thank you again for being real. Beautiful job on the ceiling and I can't wait to see the room complete with the collection installed.
I agree. It’s important to acknowledge your feelings and not hide them. Your emotions show how much you care about all the projects you are involved in to preserve your historical home. Get some rest, a massage and some good food to restore your soul. Keep up the good work as it really shows 😍😘
Yes, Absolutely! ...what Deena said! You know, I've been watching this vlog for a while. History, homes, restoration, etc have always grabbed my attention and held me close. The last episode I saw was when the designer was invited to help reimagine the library after so many watchers were so expressively disapproving of the results of Julie's decoration. I gather that reading the comments must have caused a range of emotions , but watching her share the experience with her followers was so endearing. She was so candid about it all that I was captured. I honestly hadn't thought twice about it until I started watching again, and suddenly remembered it and now feel such a closer connection. Just watching her excitement as she opened the box was infectious. Reading the comments I felt I had to join in, and as I write this she''s opening her heart and her vulnerability and telling us all how challenging this ceiling has been. In this age of internet social disconnection- this is the stuff that creates a successful channel.
Be yourself emotions show you have a soul and revile an intelligent vibrant personality and what a wonderful person you are on the inside. Real people appreciate a person who is willing to show emotion and naturally gravitate towards them because it shows warmth and character.. and all those stoic Californians can go jump in a lake surround yourself with true genuine people that appreciate you for who you are. You sound like a wonderful mother and beautiful person.
Julie no need to apologize at all. You pour your heart into everything you do at Mapperton. You must be so tired . I love that you show your emotions . Sending you love and hugs.♥️
Julie (and Luke), you are doing a great job! You are preserving your family's history. What a great challenge and contribution to all. I would be emotional too. Thank you for taking us on your journey.
Jules, another vote for going full Michelangelo mode. Bring up your scaffolding to just below the ceiling and lay on your back. It's going to be the quickest way and not give you shoulder pain.
About 11 years ago, when I was 53 years old, I decided to become a painter. I am an artist, and had created many works of art, and have always found something about painting to be cathartic. Anyway, the painting always went well, but definitely wore me out. It wasn’t until I painted a ceiling that I became emotional after a days work. The contortion of my body, and the tilting of my neck, was ultimately extremely painful. It took me several days to recover physically, even though thankfully my emotions were in check by the next morning. I decided I should have lain on my back, upon the scaffolding; probably would have been far less taxing on my body, and especially my crazy emotions!! I admire your desire to work on your historic home with much love, passion, and dedication. I really enjoy your videos. I still love to paint furniture and art, but know better than to tackle a ceiling. 😘
Wondering if the stretching and odd angles of moving to clean (or paint) does something to the hormones, body chemistry that connects to emotions. Julie’s emotion shows her great love for Mapperton and the project. ☺️
It is a very painstaking job. Maybe the sheer delicacy of handling, the physical difficulty in contorting the body/neck, and the slowness of the work all put together, does affect one's emotions, specially, when laced with the great need to do it well.
Man, I wish I had your energy. Luke is so lucky that you are preserving his and your history. Wear safety glasses to save your eyes from all that dirt. Love watching what you will do next. Mare. S. USA
Hi Julie! It’s Evan. Quick tip for old linens, lace, cottons, quilts, blankets get Retro Clean. Buy online. Safe! The longer you soak the cleaner it gets but no bleach so safe. Honest to goodness wonderful product. I know the couple who invented it. Loved this video.
I’m sending you hugs from 🇺🇸❤️🌹🥰USA. I love your raw , honest emotion and love in all you do. I’m sure in heaven your relatives are thrilled you care so much about their lives, stories, homes and I believe homes hold souls and memories: that ceiling is loving your tender loving care to it and the artists that originally created it. Must be a party up in heaven watching your care and progress! Hugs galore🌹PS can’t wait to see your Italian kitchen done!
Oh Julie, having been the sole ablebodied maintenance person of my beloved home for 13 years....no castle I can assure you, just a little, 80yr old urban bungalow in need of constant repair and care...I ached for your Hurculean effort on that beautiful ceiling. Take heart, you will be SO rewarded with the restored outcome. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us all.
It is incredibly sweet that you are so emotional about your home! The hard work and love we put into caring for our dwellings is truly, a labor of love. I could tell the difference between the side you'd done and the one you hadn't done, even in the waning light. You've done a beautiful job, and even though I have never owned anything near as grand as Mapperton, I have made myself exhausted and bone-tired working on my own home. I also just want to say that you make me proud. You put a little of the lost shine back on America by being such a gracious and energetic ambassador.
OH JULIE. Please use a Feather Duster. It Will get in All those Cracks with the webs too. Maybe use your Spray. Definitely have a HOT Bath Soak with Epsom Salts. Much Love from Dallas, Texas. Beautiful Conversation Work. You should be Proud….You and Luke are preserving Mapperton for Future Generations.
Julie you are awesome. You love your work and your home. God bless your conservation work. History reminds us where we have come from and how important it is to save the past! ❤
OMG, I can see the difference in the video! You have done an incredible job restoring Mapperton, of course, with Luke's help! My goal is to go next year and see all that you have done, my friend!
Julie, you are doing a wonderful job caring for and curating the artifacts of Mapperton as well as honoring the legacy of the Earl of Sandwich. Kudos to you and Luke! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. ❤
Julie, your infectious enthusiasm for your family and your shared heritage draws in your audience. Please do what you love to do and delegate the things that are onerous. Perhaps a bit of a scrub but don’t persevere to the point of breakdown. Let others also do their part, or if none can, let it go. Just a thought, and you know the value of free advice. Take care.
Can not believe how Albertas hat came up the colour so incredibly vibrant and the holes just disappeared Well done Julia. You are such an asset to your family I love your authenticity letting your emotions show I would feel emotional having to clean that ceiling lol.
Thanks for sharing, Julie! We're renovating our house as well (we live in the Netherlands), and sometimes we think that it's a lot to do... But your videos inspire to work harder on the home of our dream!
I booked tickets to come to Mapperton in a few weeks and after that probably my cookies threw this channel into my path. Glad they did as I have enjoyed watching various videos and your work is impressive. Even if the ceiling doesn't LOOK better you know it is, and getting the dirt and dust off will help preserve it for more years. I feel I know the estate quite well now and I am looking forward to seeing it live...
Julie, you have such a big heart for your home and preserving its history, you take on so much and do such hard work to make sure it looks its best. In the shot of the side you had done and the side undone, I truly could see a difference! Sometimes lightning in cameras picks up things our naked eye can’t see. The undone side had brown in the crevasses and sides and your done side was crisp white! I know that must have been such a difficult job, reaching and working up over your head is so hard on your arms, shoulders, and neck and being up on the ladder I’m sure your feet, legs, and core were also getting quite the workout. You have done a wonderful job on this project and with all you have undertaken! Well done, Julie!
Julie, thank you so much for sharing your hard work with us! I just adore your attention to the details and intricacies of the ceiling! I am amazed, you are willing to tackle various projects yourself. Including the ceiling! This is truly a work of love. I love that you share your emotions with us as well. Your tears tell us that you have fully embraced Luke's heritage, his home and all of the work that you have taken on in support of him. We see your true love and devotion to him and to his parents. It is really beautiful! I can't wait until the big reveal!
We've all been there, that passion project that wrung us out & took on a life of its own. Your emotional reaction is just a part of the love you have for this "house".
Julie you are amazing don’t ever apologise for the emotional side of what you are trying to achieve. All I kept thinking was how on earth are you going to get that ceiling done it’s huge job overwhelming. Well done to you Julie. You are inspiring
I am constantly amazed at all of the word you put into this estate. This is a huge undertaking and you have managed to dive into these projects all the time and keep the estate preserved while also adding to the character of the home. Great job Julie.
Julie, you have poured your heart and energy into this exhibition. I love that you let your emotions show. I am sure that Alberta is somewhere watching and sending you the energy to continue. ❤
Even if people don’t look up and exclaim, what a clean ceiling! we pick up on details below our consciousness and feel the care in the space. Well done, as always, Julie! Hurrah! 🎉🎉🎉 I love the TLC you put into Mapperton. What a gift you are to that estate.
That water out of the dehydrator is great for houseplants like camellias and citruses. You could try a makeup brush on the mouldings,a clean dry one,to get in all the crevices. A blusher brush.
Don't push yourself so hard. You are a remarkable woman. Trust me you have so many who admire your talent, commitment, drive and most of all your sincerity.
As an amateur painter and also doing embroidery, I can promise you the light will play tricks on you... But yes, you did it!! And it looks so lovely restored and fresh and new again! 😍 It's crazy to imagine that it's been neglected for so very long but you're really working your magic and love all over mapperton!! The family and all the ghosts of the past and the kids of the future are thanking you right now! Absolutely not in vain and absolutely necessary for the preservation of the history and the heart of Mapperton. ❤
This message to you is a month late..... Just know that you are doing an EXCEPTIONAL job on Mapperton and YOU are an exceptional woman! That ceiling looks amazing Julie. YOU HAVE DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB!
What an incredible challenge, and you rose to meet it with your wonderful work ethic, enthusiam and never give up attitude. Julie, you are a bright jewel in Mapperton's crown. Luke chose wisely and correctly in his choice of wife and together you make a formidible force and excellent team. Thank you Julie for your honesty and willingness to portray your life as it really is, your genuine emotions mixed with your bubbliness and enthusiasm make "Mapperton a pleasure to watch.
Julie, you are so so dedicated to your task. And you do a superb job of it as well. You take so much care in whatever you do. We enjoy watching you and are in turn, motivated in our own lives too. Great job done! We are all with you from all corners of the world. ❤❤❤❤. Well done!!!
Wow you are in really good shape! If I tried to work with my hands and arms over my head for hours after a few hours (4) I would be a stiff muscle spasmed mess for days. I am completely impressed. Your love for your home and a well done job is inspiring.
Wow, July, what an amazing job you’ve done, despite the physically demanding position-yours was truly hard work. Well done! … high-quality, highly specific tools and, of course, your dry cleaning sponges! 😉😘 are crucial in the upkeep. ps those sponges are really amazing.
Wow that is an absolutely beautiful ceiling Julie, kudos to you both for everything you do taking care of your beautifully presented home, it can’t be easy, and I wish you all the success for your upcoming exhibition, tfs x Julie
I could see a difference! You did a great job. Exhaustion is a b#@#@! A good night's rest and better we feel. You have a great Midwestern work ethic, Julie. Well done!❤😊
Prayers for you, for your strength, for your passion and for your endurance throughout this ceiling project and all future projects. I’m so moved by your dedication and love of preservation and restoration of living history.
You are all amazing!,, so enjoy all your videos and watching your adventures in restoring and maintaining this amazing and beautiful estate. Julie, please wear a protective mask and eye shields when doing any or all of the restoration too? You and your husband are so talented and creative in restoring, maintaining and managing Mapperton. Wishing you continued success in all your endeavours. ❤
Thank you for doing all this great preservation work and for respecting the history of Mapperton, instead of leaping to a modern renovation. You are to be commended on your initiative and "won't quit" attitude. And also, thank you for sharing this journey with us.
Thank you for sharing what a human being feels when we feel overwhelmed. You have made such a difference, every section of that beautiful manor there is a little of you.
I can tell the difference where you worked! It is visible! Even on camera! Well done! Mapperton is lucky to have you! Alberta would have been proud of her fellow American! Bravo!!!
I'm glad you kept in your emotions. We all get there at some point when doing something that means a lot to us. I think some people think you use donations to hire people to do the dirty work and then swoop in at the end to do the glamorous bits. You really showed how much hard, dirty work owners of these stately homes do themselves and how much it means to you to do a good job. Well done Julie! I think it looks much better.
Gosh, what a lot hard work (never ending) you and your family do for your home, and thank you for inviting all of us in to see and share and understand what it takes to keep these historic places alive! Truly, you are all amazing! And the ceiling looks fabulous!
I have been that emotional when exhausted, but also hungry. Make sure you stop to eat when you're doing these intricate jobs. I find I can go for hours not realising I haven't had a break.
Julie, may I suggest that you build a trim frame around that window. It would look so nice. It could be built as a frame in that room which would look very lovely!😀
Oh, sweet lady, your hard work is totally noticeable!! That ceiling looks stunning, fantastic job!! That library is going to be a beautiful showcase of your dedication to Mapperton and Alberta.
Julie you are doing a fantastic job tackling all the restorations around Mapperton . Tired, exhausted emotions do hit, but you should be so pleased with the job you are doing. Just be careful up on that ladder.
What a beautiful treasure you have there to go way back in the family history. Love the work you do Julie you adore the things you do... Luke great job on letting Julie tell you what to do "LOL" i wish you continue goodness, blessings and grace.
So many thank you's for all your openness to us and all the things you teach us along the way about conservation! I've been a big fan of what you do, since you began this channel! Your strength and positive energy are inspiring ❣
5:58 there is just something so satisfying in dumping the tank of a dehumidifier 😊 In college, my roommate and I invested in a dehumidifier here in Orlando Florida. It was a two bedroom two bathroom one story no attic no basement. Tile floors throughout. The machine was the same size as yours and on wheels, but it held a 2 gallon tank, and we had to empty it every day or every other day, certain times of the year. Giggle, giggle thank you for bringing that memory back to me. From 20 years ago.😊
Julie, you are a gift to the Montagu family and to Mapperton, with all your passion and hard work for preserving this important part of British heritage. I had my own epiphany about the wonders of dry sponges when I had soot disaster with a furnace. They are really a miracle product. If one ever has something that is really dirty don't ever put water on it first. Use a dry sponge.
Julie, love the ceiling, isn't there some kind of soft brushes that could have helped with the multi layer things? Is there scaffolding that let you lay down to save your neck and arms you could use maybe for future projects. Ceiling looks great considering the dampness, fireplace smoke and people use to smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes in homes. Love it.
Julie, you are so hardworking. Please know that we appreciate you (and Luke) for taking such good care of Mapperton. I really hope I’ll get to visit someday.
That is so much work! I love your dedication to the conservation cleaning products. I’d have hiked the vacuum cleaner up there and used a soft brushy nozzle to remove the dirt and cobwebs. 😂😂
Julie, We live in Indiana, having passed through many parts of Illinois. We have watched your videos for some time. I remember an interview with your in-laws and seem to remember a discussion of regular services at the Chapel. I would be a delight to come and speak regularly for a summer. We are in our 70s and I am pushing 80 pretty hard. Probably one of the greatest series I have preached is through the Gospel of John. I am presently Senior Pastor at a Bible Church in Indianapolis.
Those sponges, wow! You can see the results through the camera lens and such a daunting task accomplished. Can't wait to see the final results with the painting.
Hi Julie, you are doing an amazing job cleaning the English Rococo ceiling! No worries about your emotions. Your dedication and workmanship to the historic restorations at Mapperton are real and I appreciate your authenticity. Maybe you can teach one of your helpers or family and they can help you clean the ceiling? Best of Luck!!!!
Your hard work will be a source of accomplishment for you in years to come! I’m glad to see your emotions as you care for the home of your Beloved family.❤️ How long has it been since that treasure was cleaned? We keep a dehumidifier on in our basement all the time to keep the moisture in check. I can’t wait to see when you are finished and have your curated items ready for their “debut”. You will be so proud of your efforts, as will we. Keep your chin up, it will all come together soon. 🥰
Julie, I truly enjoyed this video. Conserving that lovely library ceiling was a true labor of love, and I am so glad you captured your loving care in this video. All that hard work and love will pay off when that new paint goes in and that ceiling pops! I've worked on similar projects that sort of get etched in my brain from all the detail and time spent on them, especially if I happened to have listened to music while working on them. The music, for some psychologic reason, sears those moments into my brain and calls them back up the next time I hear the same songs. I sure wish I could come see the exhibit! Much love from Texas, XOXO.
I am so glad you decided to keep in the emotions after working on the ceiling. It is evident how much you care and how hard you work, and emotions are human! It looks amazing!!
It's very clear on the video which side you did and which you still had to go. You are a warrior. I'm endlessly proud of how you've embraced your husband's heritage and are preserving it bit by bit.

Julie you are such a beautiful soul, please don’t exhaust yourself. Everything you have done for Mapperton you should be proud of.
I could see the difference right away, great job Julie 👏 I have so much respect for you and your efforts!

A great refresh...of both the ceiling and you. Fantastic. Can hardly wait to see the entire room finished. Be safe and GOD BLESS 🙏🙏🙏 💖💖💖
Julie yòu did an excellent job! Plaster work is not easy to clean. Its so delicate. It came out beautifully done!

Your passion and dedication to history is phenomenal. It looks amazing. Well done Julie.
Amazing work, Julie! You are preserving hundreds of years and making a future for your home and family. Rest knowing your work is well done!
I can tell the difference where you worked! It is visible! Even on camera! Well done! Mapperton is lucky to have you! Alberta would have been proud of her fellow American! Bravo!!!
Julie, you can definitely see a difference between each side in the video. Good job!
Julie you're doing a beautiful job. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home & your projects with us
I'm glad you kept in your emotions.
You're doing amazing with your work!! You're tired and achey..so of course emotional!! Love all the work that's been done at your home!!😊
I’m amazed at all the skills you have. What a work out and a job well done.
You are doing a wonderful job. ❤ I wish there were more people who care and work as hard as you do. Keep leading the way even when it is tough.
What a beautiful treasure you have there to go way back in the family history. Love the work you do Julie you adore the things you do... Luke great job on letting Julie tell you what to do "LOL" i wish you continue goodness, blessings and grace.
Thank you so much!
So many thank you's for all your openness to us and all the things you teach us along the way about conservation! I've been a big fan of what you do, since you began this channel! Your strength and positive energy are inspiring ❣
I'm so impressed with your literal hands-on approach to restoration. Great job Julie!
Hang in there Julie! The ceilings are going to look amazing with you on the job👍🏻
I love your hats and the family hats❤️
Thank for sharing🙂
It's such a delicate job, and working above your head takes so much pit of your body. It's like a soul deep exhaustion. You're doing a great job. ❤
Julie, love the ceiling, isn't there some kind of soft brushes that could have helped with the multi layer things? Is there scaffolding that let you lay down to save your neck and arms you could use maybe for future projects. Ceiling looks great considering the dampness, fireplace smoke and people use
to smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes in homes. Love it.
I'm so proud of our American Viscountess
Julie...we all love you!!
Oh hugs for you, what a wonderful job. You are to be congratulated for your perseverance and dedication! 💪🤗
Thank you so much!
Thinking of you sweet Julie….hugs and prayers. ❤ You are amazing!
I'm so happy to hear how pleased you are with your work on the ceiling! You should feel proud! ❤ from Prescott, AZ
Greetings from Tennessee USA
I am so glad you decided to keep in the emotions after working on the ceiling. It is evident how much you care and how hard you work, and emotions are human! It looks amazing!!
Hi Julie and Luke! This another exciting project❤
It's very clear on the video which side you did and which you still had to go. You are a warrior. I'm endlessly proud of how you've embraced your husband's heritage and are preserving it bit by bit.
That ceiling is so beautiful. What a big job you took on-something to be proud of for sure!!
