Whoever is in charge of all the Masters content that has been posted to RUclips in the last month... Thank you! I love the acess this year and watching previous years entire last rounds is a dream come true. Thank you so much!
This is such a cool thing. Imagine winning The Masters and knowing you get to pick this meal next year and get to come back and play in the tourney and go to the dinner every single year. You can't force this kind of thing in sports. It has to happen organically. I had no idea Ben Hogan founded this tradition. Mr. Hogan was a genius. I hope this is Rory's year, and he completes the career grand slam. Mickelson and Spieth will also be vying for the career grand slam this year - at other events.
Priceless. To have that honor, privilege, and companionship once you're a champion, that's what a sport is and should be about. The money, arrogance, and every other negativity that comes with being considered great at something have no place....Arnold, Jack, and Gary knew/know this too well.
Happy to see Segio Garcia make it. His only major so late in his career and the best major. He once threw his autographed glove at me in the middle of the round.
Sometimes I wonder if there’s anybody on this planet who has lived a better life than Jack Nicklaus. Just forget about the fact that he’s widely considered to be the greatest golfer who ever live. As far as I know he’s been happily married for over 60 years, has 5 children and a bunch of grandchildren. He was still able to play the game loves at a high level when he was in his mid 70’s. When he was 76 he shot 72 at Augusta...from the member’s tees, but still. He’s been going to the Champions dinner every year since 1964. He’s been hitting the ceremonial starter for I’m not sure how long, but it’s been awhile. He’s extremely wealthy and at the same time gives a lot of money to charity. He’s basically beloved by everybody in the golfing community. Most of the same things could be said about Arnold Palmer too.
son of a pharmacist, country club kid, golf course designer without the degree (name recognition). Although he did lose a grandchild in a horrible pool accident.
If i was a masters champion, my dinner menu would look like this: Hawaiian kalbi beef short ribs, kailua pork, teriyaki chicken, mac salad, white rice, ahi tuna poke, mango sweet sticky rice topped w/ coconut ice cream.
I have had more than a few discussions on whether this, or the Baseball Hall of Fame dinner was the top place to be. Mostly it's about which would you rather attend. Seaver told a story of him, Phil Niekro and Don Sutton were sitting at a table swapping stories, when Sandy Koufax wanted to sit and they said, "Take a hike. This table is for 300 game winners only". I have gone back and forth, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd choose this one.
@@NYCMarkus I’m almost positive Augusta sets the dinner seats. I would hope they give that job to somebody knowledgeable and not an intern or something. Hopefully Tiger and Sergio never have to sit next to each other.
What a brillant gesture by Ben Hogan. My uncle who introduced me to the game of Golf just loved Ben Hogan. What great company. You don't become Masters Champion by mistake. As they say you earn it.
To get to enter the club of winners/champions dinner at Augusta National,,,probably the coolest club on the planet,,,,,Hope my guy Rickie Fowler makes it in to that club one day,,,,,,,,,Come on Rickie!!!! Bobby Schengber AKA bobbyjones
Wish the Masters or PGA would have a dinner for all the guys that finished 2nd (excluding winners who have finished 2nd of course). Norman, Mattice, Oosthuizen, Rose, Westwood, Blixt, Day, Perry, Chad Campbell, Sabbatini, Goosen, Tim Clark, Di Marco, Els, Duval, Love III, Kite, Lehman, Beck, Floyd, Hoch, Calcavecchia, Strange, Pohl etc etc etc Think of the stories they could share.
It’s not a men’s club. The membership is MOSTLY comprised of men, but it’s not a men’s only club. There are approximately 300 members and there are 6 females that are known to be members. Condoleezza Rice, who was former Secretary of State, Darla Moore, who was the highest paid female banker in the industry, Virginia Rometty, the CEO of IBM (Augusta has a history of inviting the CEO of IBM to become a member), Diana Murphy, who served as the USGA president (like IBM, Augusta has a history of inviting the USGA president), Ana Botin, who is a powerful woman in finance and her brother in law was Seve Ballesteros and finally Heidi Ueberroth, daughter of the former MLB commissioner, Peter Ueberroth. She spent the majority of her career with the NBA and is now part of Globicon, which is a private sports and entertainment private investment firm. She’s also co-chairman of the board of directors at Pebble Beach.
I'm sure he knows enough to hobnob and socialize at something like this. I doubt it's a barrier in his life except when asked to answer questions in front of millions on TV.
Of course he won it - those are the rules of the competition. And who are you to say he wouldn't have won the playoff had de Vicenzo submitted an accurate card? But in any case, it's hardly his fault, so the record says he won.
Gary and son should be ashamed at 2021 ceremonial first tee shot ... Self promoting, Gary should have been removed from doing it again. ... He has a history of self promoting his business interests over the years...
the masters is the easiest major to win out of the 4. its more of prestige tradition and marketing. half of the field dont even have a chance. sandy lyle come on give someone else in the pga a chance to win. the course is too short everybody is getting there in two even the short hitters.
You obviously know very little about The Masters.Past champions are not displacing any other players, therefore they're not depriving anyone else of the opportunity to play. There are very well-defined criteria for receiving an invitation; all any player needs to do is satisfy one or more of them.
the field is alot smaller compared to us opens pga and the open. it would be more competitive if they put someone who is currently in the pga not some old guy doesn't have chance. i get it if you are journalist and you write anything bad about the masters you get banned for life.
You apparently don't understand that there is no cap on the number of players who play in The Masters, unlike the other majors which are usually limited to (approximately) 156 players. In other tournaments, special exemptions (for a variety of criteria) are included in the field, and these have been criticized as displacing other players who are possibly more competitive. However, as I said, The Masters has specific qualifying criteria, and a given player either qualifies or he does not. An 'old guy' playing as a past champion does not displace some other player who does not otherwise qualify. The size of the field at The Masters is determined by the number of players who satisfy one or more of the qualifying criteria. So, the only way to get in is to qualify, and the only way to get left out is to not qualify.
After all these years, I'm still amazed at just how special the traditions of this tournament are.

Anyone else notice Phil get on his tiptoes at the end to seem a bit taller?
He saw Faldo to his right and had to make sure he was slightly taller. Because his career was/is slightly better.
LOL!!!
still needs another major to level with Faldo.

It's moments like this when I think to myself how much I miss Arnold Palmer.
AP and Seve the two most exciting players the game has seen.. much missed.
I was just about to make the same comment. The King. Truly
They were going to invite Norman, but he always chokes on the main course

Atleast nobody has to worry about what they should wear!
im sure its the only time you can talk about golf all night without being told off
Lovely, what a beautiful video.
This dinner always seems like it's a super private affair and you never hardly hear much about it. It's nice to see some behind the scenes video of it
The one hit wonder Larry Mize....should be Greg Norman, dammit!
Fred Garvin yeah, but Mize stole it from him. I don't think Mize has made a cut at Augusta since.
Strange how Ben Hogan proposed this...he never spoke to anyone!
he never called Arnold by his first name either
Wonder if Tiger and Sergio speak at these things
And Tom Watson and Mickelson.
What a great moment in sports history this must be every year!!! Where is Bubba in the group picture?
That’s his head right below the far left hanging yellow Masters Flag
the best game ever made
