      @@CajunA79 I’m sorry sorry to hear you are going through this. My kid brother Dan was 55, he was the youngest of three brothers, I’m the oldest. He was always the healthiest one, the star athlete, etc. The three of us were very close. He died in January of 2021. He was actually approved for a liver transplant and was being treated at Mass General, but then pneumonia set in and he just couldn’t beat it. I had to say goodbye to him over FaceTime because only one visitor, his daughter my niece, was allowed with him in the pandemic. It was so painful. I truly sympathize with you.

    Josh, this kinda reminded me of someone explaining a picture puzzel by describing all of the individual pieces.
    I imagine this is great for those well-versed specialists, but for laymen like me it's a bit like being on an uninhabited island all alone with all the survival info. you'll need scrawled
    on the unside of a cave wall, but written in some foreign script.
    But, - if a superlative can be tapered down into a 15 min. Vid., You have just done so. Thanks.

    You mentioned in the beginning that they have about a 30-40% chance of living another 5 years. Is this for someone still drinking or fully abstaining? I am having a very hard time finding information on the life expectancy of someone with end stage liver disease that still drinks. Thanks for the fantastic video.

    • @the_k_space
      @the_k_space 3 года назад +4

      Doctors will run blood tests and come up with an algorithm based on results they give you a M.E.L.D & Child-Pugh score... this predicts life expectancy. Just dealt with all this first hand with my mother. Hope your friend/family has pulled through...

    I was just diagnosed with cirrhosis of liver non alcohol. I scored a 4 on my fibrous scan. What does that mean. Right now my liver stats are pretty good. Some elevation in alt and ast. Billerubin is normal and the rest is good. It began with fatty liver 17 yrs ago and has just progressed to cirrhosis. I do get a lot of stomach discomfort, i have diabetes and autoimmune illness. My stomach feels like its trying to eat itself it feels like severe hunger pain it can last days on end, sibsideand then return. How advanced is the cirrhosis if your fibrous scan revealed a 4 for a score. Any ideas. Im 63

    The explanation is good but these words are like butterflies when compared to the dragon of experiencing these words first hand. It’s extremely painful for the person going through this! And it’s extremely traumatic for the caregiver because you’re seeing them being tortured and all they can look forward to is death to provide relief. Since being diagnosed doctors tell you words and they ask questions but they Never get down to the nitty gritty of what you will really be feeling! The nausea and vomiting blood, not feeling like eating, extremely rapid muscle loss, the eyes rolling around looking for help, the swollen stomach and legs like their skin just wants a weak point to tear open and let out all the fluid! Why don’t they tell you about that! Why not tell you and let you decide if you want to go through that torture or if you rather get assisted suicide. All they want is money from the supposed treatments and then when they can’t bare to see you anymore they send you home saying there’s nothing they can do for you. BS!

    Avoid beta blockers in end-stage liver disease (e.g., when map < 82mmHg). At this point, they increase mortality.

    Is this the same for ALD? My brother has end stage liver disease, Critical kidney disease (Renal failure) Sepsis and he is very seriously ill, back in hospital for the 4th time since just before Xmas. He is dying as far as I am concerned, he can barely eat, weak sucking muscles, took 4 hours to eat one trinagle of pizza and is barely drinking or eating and sleeping all the time. How long would a patient like this be expected to live?

      My dad is going through the same thing. He was told he had 2 months back in December. He's been to the hospital twice. Once for a nasty Umbilical Hernia that had twisted his intestines inside and caused gangrene. The cut it off but he's been going steadily down hill since. He has SBP. He had it right after the sugery ,too. He also has renal failure. His gfr is 15 and they haven't been able to get rid of this SBP infection. They sent him away from the third hospital visit to get evaluated for a liver. They told him since he was an alcoholic that he most likely wouldn't even be approved to be on the list. He quit drinking back in December when he had alot of blood in his urine and stool. Sounds like unfortunately he reached that stage before me dad has. But the fact you posted this makes me think this is what is coming next.

      TheTha411 Sorry to hear about your Dad but the good thing is your father quit drinking where as my brother hasn't, he's been in hospital for 8 weeks now and has told the social workers and hospital staff he's terrified that if he goes back to his flat he may end up dead.
