I might be totally wrong, but I think Tool fans are very empathetic people. I say that because if you discover Tool, you have to want to discover something or learn something or love something before you end up liking the music. Most mainstream music is short, in and out with basic lyrics and radio friendly. Tool is the opposite of that. And speaking from experience, if you want to love tools music you have to be in for the long ride. I think that's why tool fans are so passionate, they invested the time in letting the music mold their emotions as the artist intended.

From there, the more I listened the more I got into Carl Jung, then collective unconscious, Plato, and other forms of archetypal thinking. So I went to get my Masters in psych with the intention of a PhD in philosophy, all meanwhile listening to more and more tool and exploring my own consciousness. Now, I’m 12 years into my professional of helping people find ways to discover themselves. Thanks to tool

I'm a clinical social worker, wassup 😊 I wasn't ready for the aggression when I first heard Tool in high school (I'm a sensative soul), but as my emotional complexity has matured I've fallen further and further in love with them. I'm a neurology nerd, and I just love the human capacity for shared psychological profundity through music, and few bands channel that gift better than these guys. I love hearing Adam's synesthesia paint for us through his guitar, and the madness that is Danny's wild polyrhythmic ambidextrousness, not to mention Maynard's heartwrenching lyrics and delivery, and Justin's precussive baselines that pulses that driving beat. They put you in a flow state and pull you through a journey of timelessness. They've helped me through a lot of difficult feelings and experiences with what they do.

Likes to go on a journey to another place and time. Uses music as a way to go to another realm of understanding. Really its hard to explain how Tool can affect people. The crescendo of this song was the first moment where all that emotion with her loss came through me and I cried hard. It was so cathartic for me I listened to it every day until the tears lessened. Even though the meaning of the song is for his mother, I can still vicariously feel personal loss through it.

@@markgeisler7709 agreed 100%. If you only listened to Opiate and Undertow, it’d be very easy to assume that Tool, or at least MJK, is very anti-religion and atheistic. However, it’s been interesting to see the evolution of the band and the lyrics from Opiate to a song like Pneuma for instance. Tool’s music to me is very much steeped in philosophy and IMO is almost gnostic in nature, not nihilistic or atheistic.

I'm a 42 year old woman. Master's degree in sociology, bachelor's degree in philosophy, living in semi-rural Kentucky -- maybe not the best representative of the common Tool demographic. I first heard Tool back in high school when the album Undertow came out. There was a metric shit ton of good music to come out in the 90s, but nothing sounded like Tool. I wasn't smoking weed back then, but when I got into college I started -- it had nothing to do with my love for Tool. Other than the mastery of the musical artistry the band exhibits, the lyrics of some Tool songs (and the song's composition itself) are philosophical treatises to the discerning listener. I am insanely happy you love Tool. Also, my mother still lives but I feel Maynard's pain in this song because my grandfather was the epitome of what a Christian is supposed to be. I'm not a hard believer myself, like Maynard, but I hope there is a heaven for people like my grandfather, even if I don't see it, because he lived his life with love, dignity, and faith, and he deserves the heaven his religion promised him.

I'm a 27 yr old Black woman from AL. I had my first listen as a 9th grader an old friend of mine introduced me to Tool. Schism was the first song I ever heard. The more I listened the more learned about myself. Through my darkest days their music has seen me through. I've been hooked ever since.
"Jimmy" helped me to connect to my inner child. "Gravity" by APC is my daily affirmation. "Reflection" is played during every full moon 🌕
"Wings For Marie/10,000 Days" hits on a personal level. Everytime. 🕊️🕯️❤️‍🔥👁️

4:35 "It's just amazing how that pans around like that."
Adam played his guitar through a Leslie speaker. Basically, the speaker is mounted in the cabinet facing down into a spinning baffle that projects the sound horizontally, creating the panning effect as it spins.
    17:30 "Is that a violin?"
No, that's a guitar. He's either using a volume knob on the guitar; or a volume pedal; or possibly an eBow, which is a little device that uses magnetic fields to cause a guitar string to vibrate.
I *suspect* that Adam is just using the volume knob on the guitar itself, but I don't really know.

60 year old retired preschool and special education teacher, mom to 2 daughters in their 30s and my son in Heaven, who would be 38 now but he passed at 31 and I miss him every single day. Enjoyed Tool in the 90s through first years of 2000s but it wasn't until my son died that Tool suddenly became the only band that somehow kept me sane and helped me process a lot of deep stuff going on with me, and it was really the first time I ever got into the lyrics and was like how could I have missed THIS all these years, that aspect of Tool beyond just the music and how it healed my broken spirit in some fashion I can't explain. While my devout Christian sister was texting me links to comforting Christian music I was donning my headphones and diving deep into Tool for the same spiritual succour she was attempting to give me. Not that those Christian worship songs were bad or anything but they could not help me in the way Tool inexplicably spoke to me. My middle child has a genetic defect and autism and at 35 she still functions on a 6-7 year old level and has numerous medical issues as well as her autistic behaviors; she lives with me still and I am her sole caregiver, and when I become too stressed or exhausted some days, Tool is a meditation for me, a way to find space to listen and go within and deal with my stress. My youngest daughter is an electrical engineer and has been a Tool fan since she was a teen and she and I would crank up 46&2 in our old car and sing at top volume and headbang together driving her to soccer or tennis or orchestra, where she played viola ha. She is 33 now and still loves Tool though she also blasts a lot of classic Pearl Jam ha. I love a lot of classic rock bands like The Eagles and The Doobie Brothers and Boston and so on and have wonderful nostalgic emotions for so much classic rock and r&b; but for the past 7 years Tool has been my fave band period.

I chose TOOL - LATERALUS because i liked the cover artwork and i did not know what i will get. I heard the first tones and since then for me it is the most complete masterpiece of music. Since 2001 NOTHING could top that!!! The closest band in my opinion from the experience standpoint is called ISIS. They were an underground band and an opening act for Tool in 2006. They also make experiences not only music. If you want to check them out check the albums PANOPTICON and OCEANIC. Very Tool like is also KARNIVOOL. The next two-parter, you should check out is parabol/parabola. Make sure to find one of the videos with both songs. All of Tools' multi-part songs should be allowed to transition into the following song as the transition itself is part of the song.
I am a union pipefitter, and I have been a die-hard fan of tool since 2018. I had heard the typical edited songs they had playing on the radio and liked them, but I never got one of the albums and truly listened to the music. One day, I decided to smoke some weed, and I put on 10,000 days while I read the lyrics. I listened to the entire album in one sitting. It was an amazing experience that took me on a roller coaster of emotions. Tool became my absolute favorite band from that point forward.
I have always felt that every song by tool felt like its own self-contained album, and every album was the equivalent of an entire discography. The signature style you talk about, I describe as being able to hear the shear mastery each band member possesses and that no other band is that good.

I love these stories! Seen Tool, APC, Puscifer many times. Tool my all time favorite, hands down. But rolling during a NIN show is outstanding as well 🤩🤘😎

Oh my goodness, my heart! Oh, I'm so glad you did these!! I'm tearing up, but I'm SO happy you got to experience this ❤️ I'm so appreciative of this. It's so beautiful... and you're awesome. I'm a nobody, but I enjoy thoughtful music. I tend to lean towards more artistic expressions in lyrics and things you can listen to 50 times and still find something new. I just found "Hi Ren" by... well... Ren. And I'm currently jumping in with both feet down the Ren rabbit hole. I'm just thrilled to have a new Tool Army member solidly in our ranks. Still gotta hear that 30 second Grudge scream. Epic voice on MJK. Untouchable, in my humble opinion

I'm a 50 year old metal head railroad worker that has listened to Tool for a quarter century.

Father of 4, just took my wife and 2 of my kids to see TOOL in New Orleans in 2022! Do yourself a favor and watch this live. Most honest lyrics along with Judith from APC that you will ever hear. Great reaction TOOL FAN!

Lovely reaction! So astute of you to notice how Maynard has his vocals in the back of the musical track. He physically stands behind the band, in the dark, for live performances.

I'm a 44 year old landscaper. I'm into snow skiing, mountain biking, camping/backpacking, and Bonsai and detailed pruning of trees, among other things. I listen to everything from country and jazz to older rap and death metal. Top 4 favorite bands are Pink Floyd, Tool, Faith No More, and Alter Bridge. It's a veritable bottleneck at 5 😂. My favorite zone out situation, if not walking in the woods during a snow storm, is pruning a Japanese Black Pine while listening to something like Beyond Creation, Be'lakor, or An Abstract Illusion on my headphones.

I’m a 54 year old graphic designer from Mississippi. Married with three grown kids. TOOL was a slow burn for me. Had a friend that took me to a concert around 2006. Loved every minute of it but didn’t REALLY get into TOOL until about 5 years later. Started deep diving on each instrument and just fell in love. Every member of TOOL is a master at their craft. And then I started looking up the lyrics AND then my mind was blown again. I probably listen to at least one TOOL song everyday. Far and away my favorite band. If you ever get a chance to see them in concert you will not regret it.

Hey man, I’ve really enjoyed watching you on your discovery of TOOL. Keep making more videos and I’ll keep checking them out. Can’t wait til you hear “Right in Two” and “Schism”. Thanks for doing what you do. And oh- I’m a late 40’s educator in the Department of Corrections. First saw TOOL in 93. Saw them in Philly and Pittsburgh last year.
