Been addicted to Sea of Thieves for a while (several years) and its fishing minigame is definitely really good. It's simple enough to be enjoyable but complex enough to be enjoyable, even throughout a lot of fishing. Although the game's commendations, achievements, milestones and other various optional challenge objectives will definitely ask way more of you than you could ever hope to give.
Red Dead 2's fishing minigame is the best I've ever played. Its kind of ruined all other fishing minigames for me by comparison. Sea of Thieves fishing was pretty good but every time I do it I keep wanting to yank the rod like you do in Red Dead. SoT is probably the second best fishing minigame I've played in recent memory though. Cannot recommend Red Dead 2's fishing highly enough though. The game is phenomenal on its own, and it just happens to contain the best fishing game ever as a flex.

One game that I can think of that has an interesting fishing system is Terraria. There may not be a lot to the mechanics(they are pretty similar to minecrafts, aka wait for bobber to go down and press the button) but there is so much tied to fishing itself. There is progression in the form of crates that can drop rare items and valuble ores or potions. There is an angler npc who gives you a fishing quest once per day to get a specific fish from a specific biome for some more rare items that can help with fishing and help with other things. During blood moons, you can fish up enemies and a mini boss to fight. Also, there is an entire boss dedicated to fishing. While not the most mechanically complex fishing, the systems tied to fishing are quite interesting and fun.
I just LOVE listening to you talk about anything. The way you talk so passionately is just so awesome. You're one of those few persons that just captivates me and can get me interested in anything. Thank you very much for those kinds of videos ^-^
I'd recommend ultimate fishing simulator 1 instead of 2 the second was made by a different developer. Also Luna's Fishing Garden. (not for a video I just think they're fun games}

I've not played a dedicated fishing game since I was a wee lad. But after playing Red Dead Redemption 2, all other fishing minigames just don't cut it any more. From what little I remember of the actual dedicated fishing game, it still can't compete with the Red Dead 2 fishing. It's absolutely phenomenal. It's the immersion that makes it. Its the only fishing minigame I've played that really *feels* like fishing. Other fishing minigames are all just "hit the button when the bobber bobs" or maybe if its feeling fancy it'll be "move the notch along the slider while trying to keep it centered in a marked area". Red Dead 2 fishing on the other hand is "physically fight the fish, hauling on the rod like you've always seen pro fishermen do." Theres no gamey prompt or complex fishing UI. I don't think its particularly deep or particularly difficult, but it feels fucking amazing. I'm writing this comment before I've watched the video, so I don't know if you mention it. If you've not played it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an amazing game, and it just also happens to contain the best fishing game I've ever played as a flex. Games with fishing I loved as a kiddo: Dark Cloud. Only the first game, the second game made you level up your rod like it was a weapon, and *equip* it like its a weapon, too- so every time you wanna go fishing ya gotta go futz with your equipment *when the previous game had it as a seperate mode you activated by interacting with a sign*. The game isn't PERFECT when it comes to inventory futzing but I still wonder how people working on sequels so often break things that worked in a previous iteration. POINT IS, DARK CLOUD FISHING. Its real simple, but VERY rewarding in game since fishing points can be exchanged for powerful weapon enhancements.
Spend all lockdown fishing in Sea of Thieves. I solo fished my first Sloop with fishing last year, it was kinda painful. I'm nowhere near the "Legendary Hunter" title. I did the same in FF14 and they got "fishing tours" were a party of players go on a big boat trip to catch all the fish and it's amazing. I was hoping for a "Night" segment, were sniss mentions the "Fishing Horror Jam 2020" were a bunch of devs submitted Demos, including "Earl's Day Off" by Airdorf (Faith 1-3). With Dredge and "Mysteries Under Lake Orphelia", Fishing Horror is becoming my favourite upcoming subgenre.
I have long joked with my friends that the only way for a game to be an 11/10 is to not already be an amazing game, but to have both a fishing mini-game AND a video game within the video game. For example, Stardew has this in the form of fishing (obv) and Journey of the Prairie King. I'm just HOPING DRG adds fishing in a future update somehow; it'd be hilarious. Especially if it's just a hole and you need to chuck a grenade into it to do dynamite fishing
Daaaang, I played the original Zork ( which you can play for free in a browser window these days-- it even has a save function! Which is... more than the original had lmao ) back in the day because it was my *mother's* first experience with getting really into a game. She and dad beat it together, drawing their own map of the maze in a Text Only Adventure Game. Years later I played it and got so inspired I drew my parents as 70's teenagers adventuring down in the maze with the smokey red eyes of the Grue lurking just beyond the lamp light. Ma loved it, dad didn't stop grinning for the rest of the day because I arted him in a Pink Flyod shirt. Good memories. :3 but ma loves fishing, too! I'm surprised this game wasn't among those she shared with me. Maybe she just never heard about it... which gives me a thing to ask about when we next talk. Thanka for that! :D
i like fishing in warframe cuz it isn't just standard fish root fishing but spear fishing, the name explains how it works (it's modern spear fishing where you use a spear gun or whatever it's called, it actual spear).that's a shame more games dosen't do that

I thought the fishing in A Short Hike was pretty fun. Also, did anyone else play a flash game called Fishing Girl? I used to play it on this website call one more level. You played as this kid who tries to save their sibling who is stranded on an island by fishing to get money, and you would beat the game by upgrading your rod and lures to the point where you could physically drag the other island over to you. I kind of forgot about it until I saw Cat Goes Fishing, some of the models for the fish and the lure are the same, so I wonder if the same people made both games.
I like cruelty squad's fishing minigame because it has fish like human corpses, fish mutated into fleshy bouncy castles, and sentient fish that despise living in fish society. among with many other unhinged creatures
