Streaming Services | Where Movies go to Die ?

- Are streaming services killing movies and our ability to discover them ?
I consider some of the movies I'd forgotten about because I've not been able to get them on Physical Media. Are these movies just going to disappear below a barrage of other content across these streaming services ?

The objective of Streaming services is not to make quality content but to make quantity so there always the next content to watch.
@@Thirteen31Music they’re certainly nailing the quantity over quality.
And then, personally I think Apple TV has the best ratio of quality vs quantity… but then, their audience isn’t as strong. Kinda spells out that the audience just goes for the more more more type of model
The Tarantino collection on top of the shelf 🤌
@@kingeatking one of the best collections on my shelves. Couple of double dips in that lot.
There are a lot of excellent movies on various streaming sites but like most people, it’s a case of out of sight, out of mind, this is another reason I keep a library of movies at my fingertips. I’m sure people will still stay subscribed to Netflix and the like if they eventually released some of the films in physical form. Take care Phill 👍😃👍
@@kermitsghost I’m sure it’s going to frustrate some that they can’t add Axel F to their Beverly Hills Cop collection.
I’d still use the service, even if they were available physical. I wouldn’t want all their stuff physically
Also to continue the life cycle of movies, select ones are brought back to theaters for a day or two most likely to celebrate an anniversary
I went to see Deadpool and Wolverine earlier this week. Before the movie during the previews, they advertised Blazing Saddles, Shaun of The Dead and Coraline coming back to the big screen for a limited time
Amazing that these films get chance to be seen in different formats over the years. Lots of chance for discovery for several generations.
I love discovering things in different ways. Just wish these streaming movies just had more of a chance (sometimes)
Love the background changes! Great overview too!
@@pugwall316 it takes some set ups getting all those background changes. Glad you like em ✌🏼
Made
For streaming films are the equivalent of yesteryears straight to DVD films. Instantly forgettable.
There’s a few gems in there though. A few bits that deserve to shine a little more.
There’s a few I’d happily add to the collection.
Just wish they had more opportunities for folks to discover them.
Throw away entertainment. I'd rather have less content but quality like the old days when great films were made !
@@PhillwithadoubleL as there was in the straight to dvd world. But for every gem there’s about 50
Forgettable movies that have zero lasting affect. No matter how big the acting names attached are. Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds. That one they did. Instantly forgettable.
Even the ones I enjoyed. Can’t remember a damn thing.
@@MattVs_Movies yeah it’s disposable. Even cinema films have become that now. With the quick turn around to streaming / physical. Means it’s forgotten in no time by most.
When a film came out it was an event to be excited by. When it hit rental
A year later. The excitement was there again. The same for hitting retail. As things have changed. It all
Now feels disposable. Disposed of by us and the production companies.
@@ajsmovieplace agreed
You're very good at editing.
@@grey1951 thank you 🙏🏼
I still feel like I need to learn so much more with the editing and that I’ve barely scratched the surface.
It’s almost like they are just giving us quick fixes to pass the time. Attention spans are getting smaller for the younger generation thanks to TikTok, RUclips shorts and in another way, music streaming services. Remember buying an album and listening to it from start to finish? Now the skip button is used more often.
Anyway, back to the main point. People seem to watch the latest trend, that is what stuff seems to be these days, a trend. Everyone talking about it until the next trend comes along and that is talked about instead. Recent examples would be Stranger Things, Squid Game, Saltburn. Does anyone talk about these anymore? So it seems streaming services bring out content not to win fans, but to win the trend war instead.
@@ChinaRising attention spans are certainly shorter I see it in my kids. I try to push them towards things that will hopefully allow their attentions spans to not wither away (Lego normally good for that).
It does seem very trend based with the way these things are treated. Then as soon as the trend is done. Just move on and onto the next thing asap. Forget about those things that came before. It worries me how much is being lost because of all of that stuff.
Physical is much better. Trust me.❤
@@gurdipvirdee7176 oh I love my physical media. Which is why it annoys me that streaming services don’t release their exclusives on physical over time.
Funny in memory section has Terminal List. That was announced a while back to get a prequel series and sequel. I haven't heard anything in years.
@@jeremycarr3448 that was an ok show to be fair. I reckon they’ll follow through with more… eventually.
@@PhillwithadoubleL one of them was suppose to film already. Then Hollywood has the strike so filming got delayed. I assume now they're in the mix of starting if they haven't already.
@@jeremycarr3448 yeah that strike threw a lot of stuff out of whack. Takes a good few months for schedules to start lining up again.
great video mate!
@@thelastmoviestanding thanks buddy, hope you’re doing well ?
Arrow video sale at B & N started.
@@luisrizo8813 no sure there’s any that I want to import from arrow at the moment. Lingered around the Reanimator release a couple of times but I have the second sight uk release so not feeling a huge rush to jump at it.
Although, Narc is a temptation.
@@PhillwithadoubleL VS supposedly just announced a Labor Day sale; ordered the Mexico trilogy on Saturday, now it's on sale for $20 less
Went on holiday recently and had the same idea.
Scouring the streaming sites to download and found nothing.
I ended up downloading documentaries from the BBC
@@herohunter8044 i got a bunch of TV shows ready to go.
I know that I tend to have the problem of starting a movie and then stopping it because ‘it deserves to be seen on a bigger screen’ than the iPad.
Phill, its the older ones driving the exodus from the streamers, where they keep ppl is the Adults pay here/ usa but the children watch. But there are exclusive tv shows like love is blind uk on Netflix or the cleaning lady on nowtv, films on skystore or prime premieres, i point blank refuse to pay almost £20, plus i have not seen Beverley Hills cop-Axel f , why Netflix were sitting on this for 6 months plus is beyond me.
@@iloveblue7920 is that how long they set on Axel F for… wow… they coulda released that at any point then 😱
@@PhillwithadoubleL True like 2023, and they were even testing it secretly at some locations in 2022.
Also there are a few websites who print utter crap about physical media, Maybe next time make it longer, and Phill do your research, and make it for UK only.
Man you're putting a lot of effort and thought into your vodeos with the editing and storytelling keep it up very enjoyable to watch 👍🍺😎
@@snowymatrix thanks man.
Hoping to get better and better with the story telling / editing and if I can squeeze the time, lots more research.
Plenty more to come as I learn new skills.
Most of Netflix produced movies are like a cheap burger, seemed a good idea at the time, but once consumed immedately forgotten. I enjoy old movies with no CGI, a lot of real world locations with real actors not cardboard cutouts.
@@deckertyrell3340 if I’m honest, there’s a lot of Netflix movies I’ve just not been bothering with. Quantity over quality generally.
Love your content 🎉 I wonder how many movies go to Hulu ?
@@tradingcardboss thanks man 🙏🏼
Don’t think Hulu go quite as mad for the movies, they seem to aim more towards their exclusive tv content. They still have a fair few coming along though. ‘Prey’ was a great one
brought season 1 of Wednesday so yes i think i would
@@paulrose319 I wasn’t blown away by Wednesday. It was decent but certainly not as enthusiastic about it as the majority of the audience seemed to be. I’ll still check out season 2 though.
@@PhillwithadoubleL its on the Netflix right now season 2 is coming soon as well
It's so sad.
@@jeremycarr3448 it is for some of the movies isn’t it. I’d just like to see more opportunities for some of the films to be seen.
@@PhillwithadoubleL will HBO has let some of their DC stuff and Max original series to Netflix and Tubi this past year. So that's something I suppose.
I watched BRATS ... Andrew McCarthy is a 80s legend but it was a very slow watch and like he was trying to use it to hang onto fame just a little while longer.
I’ve been looking forward to it for a while and just not had chance to jump in… then forgot.
Hopefully be able to check it out soon now that it’s on the iPad 🙌🏼
Agree with your point, its not very often Netflix makes a movie thats not trash but occasionally they do and if enough demand it can get a physical release, for eg 'All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)', although its rare. There are ways to aquire copies of Netflix or other providers exclusive content but it requires paying a visit to Captain Long John Silver.
@@SecretOfMonkeyIsland784 I’ve had to sail away to be able to get a few titles… and generally they’re ones that I would pick up officially if that option ever came around. It’s pretty amazing that criterion managed to get hold of a couple of titles from them.
I remember liking Red Notice but I legit forgot everything about it within a week. But I've found that a lot with streaming exclusives
I’d have to agree that most of them are kinda forgettable.
A few though, I’d love to see them have a resurgence and get another chance. Even for my parents to be able to see them (they pretty much refuse anything streaming) on ‘normal’ TV.
I didn’t remember much about Army of the Dead as soon as I watched it, apart from that it was awful. Personally I’ve got rid of all streaming services apart from Amazon Prime as that comes with the delivery opinions on purchases. There just isn’t many interesting movies on them, and they are also mainly newer movies.
@@marymungleandmidge4080 I’ve been on the verge of cancelling a couple of services. The kids man, they burn through the content as it keeps me subscribing.
Less and less of the movies they release are getting watched though.
I'm of work with a fractured foot, so it's easier for me to use Netflix than to stumble across to look at my collection. I've just watched Siege of Jadotville from Netflix which I would love to own on blu ray but it's never got a physical release sadly. Hopefully a independent company like arrow might buy the rights some day? 🤔
@@alancochran937 hopefully streaming services ease up to allow companies like Arrow to buy the rights for other release methods. I got a few on the list I’d snag, instead they’re sat in my watchlist so I don’t forget them.
Siege of Jadotville, I didn’t watch. But now you mention it. I remember the title but wouldn’t have previously. Another just buried under the mass of mediocre
Also. Wishing you a speedy recovery with your foot 🦶 🙏🏼
@@PhillwithadoubleL it's really good movie, based on real events worth a watch if you got Netflix
@@PhillwithadoubleL Thanks
@@alancochran937 I do indeed have Netflix. I’ll get it added to my watch list.
Hi Phill I'm after some advice is alien 4k and the thing 4k for £30 a good deal are they worth the upgrade? Plus any other suggestions cheers
@@HALLOWEENSLASHER hmmmm. It’s a funny kinda question.
For me, both movies that I love so I’d jump straight in for the 4k upgrade. But… for some, the extra detail on the image and some times colour grading changes can lessen the enjoyment with the movie. Some films still look better with the lesser quality. I think it’s all about personal preference.
What if potentially look at doing. See if you can find any side by side comparison videos on RUclips so you can judge if the difference in picture and sound is worth the upgrade for the particular movies.
The Thing… I’m likely gonna get the newer editions each time regardless 🙄
I’m waiting on Aliens dropping into the 2 for £30, would be nice to see it alongside Alien in the offer.
@@PhillwithadoubleLthanks for the info it's much appreciated. I've delved into side by sides and there's a notocoble difference with most. I decided to jump in and get Jaws, alien, predator and the thing 4k. As you say they're my favourite films so I guess can't really go wrong. Oh and I got poltergeist original 4k too it's on offer for £10 so jump in if you've not I'm sure it'll be great. Got to love klarna pay in 3 oops 😂
i can understand that the streaming channels dont want to release titles on physical as could stop people from subscribing but i think what they should do is offer physical copies to subscribers like a exclusive club
@@jonrobinson3262 absolutely. That’s a great idea.
I mean, Netflix has already set up and is running a report shop type thing in the US to promote its stuff. They could roll that model out along with the physical movie club. They started with renting physical discs for goodness sake. Surely they could see some kind of benefit beyond the stream.
These streaming services are sick for doing this to people who like pysical media I agree with the pysical movie club they just want to keep taking money from people why don’t they just release there movies and tv shows on dvd or blu-ray witch would be the smart thing to do
@@nickthompson4978 there has been a couple that have escaped the clutches of the streaming services but I bet I could count them on one hand.
Not the best service but Paramount seem to be pretty good at opening up to other options over time.
@@PhillwithadoubleL name some
@@nickthompson4978 tv show wise House of Cards / Orange is the New Black / Haunting of Hill House & Bly Manor.
Movie Okja / Guillermo Del toros Pinocchio
Whilst the idea of streaming ‘almost’ anything you want to watch sounds great, it’s not. . The movies are heavily cut or edited, not to mention they are often pulled overnight due to political or public agendas.
All whilst paying through the nose for it all.
A lot of specific releases for streaming services are garbage cash cows.
Netflix Axel F is a great example.
Pay for everything, own nothing !
Nah, I prefer the physical disc 👌
@@dazdaz105 I prefer the physical disc. It’s why I’d love for them to loosen the reigns on allowing the older streaming titles to be release other ways. There’s a bunch of love physically.
