Montreal is a city with fantastic urbanism and a reasonable cost of living. However the brutal winters and the French language barrier might have something to do with this. It's still miles better than Toronto and Vancouver where you have New York City's cost of living with Las Vegas's salaries.

Lack of big cities hits close to me. I live in Edmonton, and since a 2020-2021, there’s been a major, MAJOR, drug epidemic here. And that unfortunately involved me getting put in the hospital for defending myself against a drug addict who had nothing to lose. OH! And the best part! The best part is, I nearly got put in prison, BECAUSE I defended myself! I was charged, but not convicted. If my attacker was native though, oh man, you wouldn’t be reading this. I’d be on death row right now. I’m a lifelong Edmontonian, but I’ve really grown to hate this city and Canada in a lot of ways.

For me, the lack of Canadian pride is due to Trudeau and governments destroying what made this place special. I used to be prideful about being Canadian. I visited Montreal for a week in 1999…It was the best week of my entire life. I was 24 and my whole life was ahead of me and I stayed at this beautiful little hotel across from a bistro that had the best one I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I will go over there in the afternoons and drink wine and eat salad…. Then I would go sightseeing…. The Grand Prix was in town and the streets were crowded… This was mid summer, so obviously it wasn’t cold. It was actually pretty hot which I don’t mind at all… I met some of the coolest people, and I actually fell in love…no joke… there was a French national a year older than me with a little brother a year younger than me the little brother and I became instant best friends it’s like we knew each other. Our whole lives the older brother? I don’t think I’ve ever been more attracted to someone in my whole life. We got to know each other the week and a half I was staying there. I spent every day with him and every night with him and his little brother. This was before smart phones or anything like that thank God… So we were all focused on each other… They took me to the best night clubs I’ve ever experienced as the older brother and I kept getting closer and closer… I was having so much fun that the end of my visit crept up on me and I was not ready to leave. My boss and father were there too (I worked with my father) so it was like having my best friend, my new boyfriend, and my dad in this beautiful city. My dad ended up leaving. My boss stayed an extra day but I ran out of money or at least I didn’t have enough to stay at this four/five star hotel I was staying at. So Torvald and Hugo asked.. I should say begged…me to stay and told me I could stay in their apartment with them. They Didn’t have to beg lol. The only downside was my boss. 😑. Even though she was staying on because she was having so much fun she was pissed that I was staying on even though there was absolutely nothing for me to do back home 😑. anyway, the boys have the coolest apartment building It was outside the city on this little island that you could drive to and this building was huge… I think they were on like the 54th floor? if you went out to the patio, you could see the whole city along with the whole ocean . It was stunning. We continue to have fun, but we all three knew that the time was coming where I would really have to leave… Torvald, the older brother, and I we’re sullen. He was kind of quiet while the little brother was always happy and always looked on the bright side…”What if… you moved here!!!!!?” when he said that I looked over at Torval to see his response. And he looked at me to see my response… He really wanted me to stay… I really thought about it, but there were so many issues… I already had a home in North Carolina with roommates and I was on the lease… not to mention my job, which to be honest, I couldn’t have cared less about and that moment. I never let jobs take precedent… Ever… Because you can always find another one. What you can’t always find our people that special. It’s kind of a once maybe twice in a lifetime thing if you’re lucky… I didn’t fall in love with Torvald “at first site” or maybe I did? All I know is that we were drawn to each other like magnets, and didn’t spend more than two hours apart the rest of the time I was there… And those two hours were agony for both of us… I was at the convention center and he said he would meet me in the lobby we saw each other I ran into his arms our eyes locked, and we never stopped looking at each other all night or holding hands, and Hugo who is so sweet said “I’ve never seen him like this before” but because he was so quiet, he wasn’t very vocal about his feelings. He was more vocal with his actions and that works for me. His English wasn’t the greatest either, so that’s probably why… There’s something so beautiful about two people who don’t speak the same language, but fall in love anyway. We decided mutually that I would go home.😢 but we will keep in touch and I would come back to see them soon… I had so many frequent flyer miles from traveling for work. I just needed to build up a few more… I didn’t want them to come see me in North Carolina, because to be honest where I lived was so boring compared to Montreal… I can still remember the last day when they drove me to the airport. I was trying so hard to keep it together… This was before 9/11 so you could walk someone all the way up to the gate… But Hugo stayed in the car and I said goodbye to him, and we both cried a little, but it was nice of him to give Torvald and I that moment. Tor and I were shaking, trying to hold it together. We never stopped holding hands… I finally started to break down when I got up to the counter, but he was standing right next to me, holding my hand and kissing my hand telling me everything was gonna be all right. He helps me put my name on those little tags and then put the tags on my luggage… Thought it was time to go 💔😞…. He gave me the biggest kiss, and put his hands on my face and kissed my forehead. You could see his eyes were welling up… Then we finally had to let go of each other’s hands, and there was a glass partition. We both put our hands on kind of like in a movie our hands tracked each other until he was out of sight, and I was out of sight that I got onto the plane and I was inconsolable… Everything in my body was telling me to get off the plane… that I saw my boss 🙄 talk about ruining a moment. I sat a few rows behind herThen the best thing happened: I had a carry-on and one piece of luggage that was stored below. My carry-on was just like a briefcase that I had in my purse… I was crying so uncontrollably that I reached inside my purse crying everything looked blurry but I noticed there were tiny little pieces of paper, like 10 of them in my briefcase, and then 10 more in my purse that confused me… I opened them up one at a time… they were the baggage tags that Torval was writing on: and each one of them said in big letters “I LOVE YOU!!!” I just about died. When I got home the first thing I did was check my messages when I get to the airport near my house after I called my roommate to come pick me up…. I had two 4:49 voicemails. both from him… he was fully crying, his eyes out. I still remember what he said “ Cari… I’m very very down right now…. I miss you and I love you…always”…. So we were penpals for a while and of course would call each other. I’m gonna leave it at that because this is already so long. I appreciate anyone who has hung in and read this whole thing. It’s all true. .. I know it’s long. But there was a lot to say… if you’ve made it this far, I have some advice from a woman in her 40s: if you meet someone? Even if they live in another country… if the two of you fall in love… Hold onto that. So many people say they have “no regrets” I don’t believe that for a second. When you reach a certain age, you have plenty of regrets and one of my biggest if not, biggest is not staying there 😢 Sure, it might not have worked out. But it’s ALWAYS worth the risk ❤ God Bless ❤

As a Canadian, I can confirm literally everything in this video is so true. Usually in May is when snow all JUST melts. And the cities where it is actually warm have heavy traffic, just unsafe, and way too much overpopulation. I live in Manitoba so the winters may be a bit harsher than the rest of Canada, but it's still bad. The prices here are so high now that pretty much everything is like double from 4 years ago. Construction is also a big problem. Literally the same area, there has been construction for over 6 years. And then whenever the winter comes, It's like they restart the entire project because I see literally no difference in progress from 6 years ago to now.
Yeah winter definitely changes depending on where you are. I live near Vancouver and we usually don't see snow until mid November, and it comes and goes until the end of February (though it does depend on the year). Also the coldest it ever gets here is -20 but this rarley happens

@@ZeN8Th7 It's horrible. Literally we have such a shortage of doctors that sometimes they tell you to go home because they have like full seats and stuff. We pay a lot more taxes as Ali explained in the vid, just to have free horrible healthcare.
@@ZeN8Th7 That's correct. Unfortunately, due to the size of Canada - and that 90% of the population live within 100 miles of the US border - getting services to small remote places is difficult, leading to delays and shortages of staff. Most doctors want to practice and raise their families in larger cities. If you live in a larger city, the healthcare is exemplary.

I am one of those people who came from India as a student 10 years ago and even in 2014 I thought the immigration policy was reckless. Actually I was shocked to find out the ground reality in Canada. You forgot to mention that government makes 4 times more money by admitting international students, so why wouldnt they do it..
Montreal is a city with fantastic urbanism and a reasonable cost of living. However the brutal winters and the French language barrier might have something to do with this. It's still miles better than Toronto and Vancouver where you have New York City's cost of living with Las Vegas's salaries.

The thing here with the weather is that 1 day u could be outside in the hot sun at the end of winter and the very next day see the road full of snow everywhere and gotta dress up warm to go outside just for the hot sun to come the next day for a nice relaxing day doing work outside with almost no snow anywhere

Canada has been such a cool neighbor but I have heard that Justin Trudeau has just been too much of a problem. I'd imagine it's cuz he's been in power too long. Joe Biden is too old and isn't much better. I wish we had better options this election. Overall though it is upsetting the direction both of our countries are going in. For me, the lack of Canadian pride is due to Trudeau and governments destroying what made this place special. I used to be prideful about being Canadian. I used to feel safe; ever since Trudeau became Prime Minister, that feeling slowly diminished. The only thing about Canada I treasure is the past.
That's why we ABSOLUTELY need a new PM (not Trudeaus sidekick either)

It’s kind of a once maybe twice in a lifetime thing if you’re lucky…
I didn’t fall in love with Torvald “at first site” or maybe I did?

As russian speaker I thought it'd be funny to translate the russian immigrant in 12:19.
"No fucking way!"
"In quotes (in response to another russian)."
"Gotta say something in the video."
@@Retro_Duck08Lucky. Over here in Manitoba we are getting like -30 (celsius) degree weather in December-February (sometimes November)
What do you feel about the healthcare system of Canada as a Canadian ?
As an asian, I have always heard that Canada has great healthcare system like countries in Europe and also has higher life expectancy and happiness rate
