Lamarr, i just bought the Orbi system for my 2,200 single level house. I had always had bandwidth issues in furthest ends of the house. Good lord, with Orbi, i now get 160-195 mbps in every location of the house including back yard patio and driveway. My ISP package is limiting me to 150-180 mbps. I may need to upgrade ISP to next level.
I testify that Orbi is so much better due to the dedicated 5G backhaul communication.

The biggest reason people have problems with WIFI is that they buy consumer grade products and then try to run a ton of devices on them. Add to that, all the people living in areas with a high density of wireless traffic. The triple band solution is good now but if other manufacturers all jump on the bandwagon soon all 3 bands will be clogged with traffic and you will be back to square one.
The best solution has generally been to run hardwire connections wherever possible to reduce the number of wireless devices and give dedicated machines a solid connection to the network. If you start out with a decent wired Gateway/router/filter appliance or even an old computer running pfsense or another Linux based web appliance software that doesn't have the wifi built in and is capable of routing at near gigabit speeds from WAN to LAN and then plug that into a 12-24 port managed or unmanaged switch you can then pull ethernet to each floor of your house near to where most wifi devices are used and install a dual-band wifi AP at each location so that they are spaced out for good coverage and also pull ethernet to all locations where you need a solid connection.

We use an old modem from ATT for our internet. Since, we've added a smart tv to the house, in addition to the four smart phones and a Roku that's used regularly. My husband complained about interruptions due to buffering, etc. I bought the Eero 3-pc system, but still received complaints. Desperate for a solution that did not involve calling our regular service provider to change our service or changing providers to a new service, I picked up the 3-pc Orbi system at Costco for around $500. I thought that would boost whatever internet system we had, but I'm still receiving same complaints.
I've run several speedtests at several different times in my house, but even standing right next to one of my orbi satellites, I couldn't get a get a download speed higher than 1.41 or an upload speed higher than .34. My house is only 2k sq. ft. The Router is in an upstairs bedroom; Satellite 1 is approx 25 ft away; Satellite 2 is downstairs next to the smart tv in the family room directly below the room for the Router.
Did I misunderstand what the Orbi (or similar sytems) can do? Do I need to use a newer or better modem? I'm at a loss as to what else I can do. Will appreciate your input. Thanks.

I hate the term tri-band. It doesn't have 3 bands. It has 3 radios. 1 at 2.4GHz and 2 at 5GHz. The 2nd 5GHz radio is dedicated to just send internet to satellite orbi. It's great and works well with the downside being the 5GHz band. It tends to shit the bed with even the most simple obstacles, so if you have a house with brick or plaster walls the orbi might not work that great for you.

Very impressed with the Orbi and I really wanted it for the additional speed boost but I ended up going with Google WiFi because of all the issues Netgear is currently having with NEST products (they keep dropping connections). Apparently a fix is in the works but until something is finalized you need to turn off Implicit beam forming to keep a connection.

Unlike most people, I really like my single, alien spaceship lookin-ass Wifi router from Asus. It covers my two-story house with 3-4 bars on every device and maxes out my speed from my ISP from every device. The reason why I like these three mesh systems is because they get important security updates from companies that care about that sort of thing. That alone makes recommend these over any single router out there, unless you can't afford it.

    Interesting, and makes sense, but...
You have the whole dual band thing wrong. Dual band refers to 2.4ghz and 5ghz, and your equipment can only use one or the other at a time, not both.
The third band that they dedicate to their router hotspot is awesome! And I can see it making a big difference. The problem in speed all has to do with the traffic on the 2 WiFi bands. If you live in an area with ALLOT of wireless internet users, you'll have issues with speed. If your device supports the 5ghz band, you'll get better speed. Not because the frequency of the signal is higher, but because the channel has allot less traffic on it.
The big drawback with 5ghz is it has a much lower range than 2.4ghz. Plus it has a harder time getting through solid objects.
So what I'm thinking about this system is, it transmits the signal on a 3rd channel, then broadcasts from the hot spot.
If your equipment can do 5ghz, then I can see a much more quiet, and faster connection.

Replaced a Linksys EA9500 that I had for about a year when all of a sudden it drastically slowed Wi-Fi with numerous disconnects. EA9500 worked great when new as it was one of the fastest and best reviewed on the market. Needless to say, I pay for premier COX internet so I wanted the full speed and started to shop for a new solution. BINGO! I stumbled upon the reviews for Orbi, Eero, Luma and Google Wi-Fi. Pulled trigger on Orbi last night for 2-story 3200 sq foot house. Placed Orbis in two upstairs bedrooms on opposite sides of width of house. Best Wi-Fi speeds that I have ever seen. I did not think it would beat the EA9500 performance back when it was new, but for some reason it did. Almost bought Eero, but glad I tried the Orbi. I had 165 download and nearly 50 upload last night. This morning I am getting 109.89 Mbps and 56.63 Mbps.
