Haven't seen a blunt interpretation of this. We relate to it because it's an expression of the endless race we run, just to survive, and the exasperation of never reaching a higher place. We work ourselves to the bone for a pittance, in this modern world, on the hopes that we might advance to higher wages and less toil... but it never comes. We just toil and toil and toil... and the thought of pressing a button to destroy this world of misery for us, and to extend our own misery to everyone including those who climbed upon our backs to escape it, is so enticing.
God help the world when we get truly tired.
