Douma (upper moon 2) during the flashback was upper moon 6. Meaning in 113 years he climbed to the second highest position in the upper moons.
The first breaths were the solar and the lunar and then all the variants, which are many among the pillars, Rengoku's father says so.
When they say Ubuyashiki they mean the Chief of the Demon Slayer Corps

!!! I KIND OF MENTION A SPOILER RELATING TO MORE ABOUT AKAZA'S CHARACTER. LUKE IF YOU SEE THIS DON'T READ !!!
Why does Akaza hate Doma so much again? I've always assumed that it's because he's just creepy in general and the fact that Doma only eats women but Akaza is against that and respects women. I also assumed it is because Doma is always teasing him specifically and I guess Akaza hates being teased? I don't know lol.
12:19 it’s not really all that important, but, Douma (upper 2) was upper 6 during the time he made Gyutaro and Daki into demons. Interesting little tidbit of lore :)
Also interesting is that hat Doma is wearing in the last shot we see him in. That hat is visible in the mugen train movie when we see the upper moon's shadows, and he's also holding a certain object.
That hat and that object combined makes him look like a Yama, basically the judge of the sols of the dead.
Now, the implications of THAT fucker dressed as a Yama while running some sort of cult, are not good. Frankly it gives me chills.

I don't think you've noticed but Akaza became even more angry when he heard that upper two decorated his room with a woman's head in a pot. I'd say he's the most sane of all the upper moons he has his principles about what he's doing even though he's a demon.
I also thought the same thing but when I saw it again after reading the manga it all makes sense, but the people who haven't read the manga can't tell why akaza hit doma and hate him in the first place .
And also doma story is the ugliest.

A lot of people are going to be claiming this but I should clarify, Muzan's statement about Gyutaro being held back by his sister doesn't mean he was secretly super strong and better than Upper Moon's 5 and 4 in power, Muzan was referring to the fact that Gyutaro's humanity clouded his judgement, in that once he poisoned Tengen he didn't turtle and wait for the poison to do his work and generally was fighting more to protect his sister's honor than to win. Muzan was making a point the more humanity still left in a Demon, a sense or pride, honor, or compassion the more they are a liability. (In his eyes.)
I'm still relatively certain that Gyutarou was, or at the very least could have been, stronger than 5 and 4.

I spoiled myself watching fan-made animations of the upper 1 fight and I’m so hyped!
I didn’t watch the outcome of it though, only who is involved!
Muzan only fights when he absolutely has to, he's a coward, that's why he sends his underlings to do it, also Tanjiro when not on missions is usually at some demon slayer estate, they are not easy for Muzan to find, for obvious reasons. Muzan also wants to focus on certain experiments.
Kaguya Ubuyashiki, is the leader of the demon slayer corp. We've now seen what's left of the upper ranks.
Upper moon 1: Kokoshibo, the one with so many eyes.
Upper moon 2: Douma, rainbow eyes.
Upper moon 3: Akaza, basketball head.
Upper moon 4: Hantengu, he's the scared one on the staircase.
Upper moon 5: Gyokko, the one in the vase.
Upper moon 6: Gyutaro/Daki (dead)

gyutaro destroying the entertainment district was kinda symbolic, it was that place that turned them into the monsters that they were, the real demons were the district's people and now that it's destroyed ,no more suffering will come of it, that was probably the most just and right thing he has ever done even if it was not his intention.

Finally, someone who doesn't think Kokushibo is Tanjiro's dad. Kokushibo is one terrifying demon and he looks so cool, but Douma and Akaza win at favorite demon for me.
Fun fact: The voice for Douma, Miyano Mamoru, had been the head canon voice for Douma in the DS fandom since he showed up in the manga. So it's pretty cool he ended up voicing him.
This episode was in fact first released in theatres along with the last 2 episodes of Season 2 edited together without the openings and endings for about 2 hour run time . They did the same with the last episode of Season 3 and the first episode of Season 4 also 2 hour run time as both those episodes are about 50 minutes.
It's weird, most people when they saw this episode and saw that mysterious demon slayer, they thought of the demon slayer that gave Muzan PTSD, but Luke thinks it's upper moon 1 haha

Fun Fact: A notoriously perverse uniform tailor of the Kakushi made the same Demon Slayer uniforms with the cleavage out that Love Hashira Mitsuri wears for Shinobu, Kanao, and Aoi. Those three burned theirs in protest but Mitsuri wasn't able to burn hers and opts to keep wearing it.

It’s the little details that give rise to the correct conclusions in this show. So ppl who keenly paid attention were the ones not confused. Example, confusing Tanjiro’s dad with Yorrichi. His dad said to be frail sickly multiple times, ie. not a demon slayer, in addition to wearing a different haori which in anime manga unique and consistent clothing is used specifically to differentiate characters. Additionally, when Daki experienced Muzan’s ptsd for Yorrichi it’s literally stated that it’s from Muzan’s blood which was given to Daki 113 years prior. Meaning Tanjiro’s dad could’ve never been around to do that. But that’s also too logical for ppl whose profession is to react to anime. Suffice to say, paying attention to the details and not attempting to be cool and predict the future of the show, just sitting back and watching it play out, nothing was ever as confusing as ppl made it out to be
Doma was upper rank 6 when he turned gyutaro and ume into demons. Now he has risen to 2. Since they only meet at the castle when an upper rank is killed, we learn no upper ranks have been killed for 113 years (which was when gyutaro and daki became upper ranks).
My only recommendation is to go back and rewatch every clip of the old demon slayer(s), tanjiros dad, upper 1, and compare them to the flashback. Compare the Va's. Same va = same character
14:57 This is really important. Muzan just revealed that there have been 2 tasks he gave to all Upper rank demons, which, for 100+ years they havent been able to achieve it. The first task is to find the Ubuyashiki family (Blind Demon Slayer Master's family name is Ubuyashiki). The 2nd task to find a ''blue spider lily'' flower. Why he's looking for this flower, you'll see later on. But both tasks havent been accomplished, ever.

It's crazy how you can see the power difference and speed from how Upper one (Kokushibo) left and how Upper three (Akaza) left the castle, Kokushibo just disintegrated like goodness 😭
One part that I think gets overlooked a lot is when Inosuke is sitting on the bed over Tanjiro’s legs. Like an animal that trusts their owner. More than anything shows Inosuke trusts and cares about Tanjiro.
Douma was Upper 6 at the time when he converted Gyutaro and Ume into Demons... After 100 years later, he got promoted to Upper 2....
But wait that wasn’t explicitly stated out loud or inside the head of a character, how are people supposed to know that? By using their brains and filling in the gaps? Impossible. Need more hand holding
Re: 8:40 - We've met Douma in Gyutaro's flashback. Back then (centuries ago), he was Upper Six, he's since advanced through the ranks to become Upper Two. Gyutaro (and Daki) became a demon, then rose up in the ranks all by himself until getting to Upper Six (present day).
Just to clarify. Upper Moon 2 was ranked number 6 when he met Gyutaro. He moved up in the ranks to become upper moon 2.

The upper 2, was the upper 6 when he turned Gyutaro into a demon, it was shown last ep.
30:10 There is some relationship, but it's NOT ancestral.
Note that in the scene, Sumiyoshi - the Tanjiro looking guy, the husband of the sleeping woman - said that *the swordsman in red* has no heirs. He didn't have any kids. And *the swordsman in red* also said that he would simply finish his meal and leave, and that he did not want to overstay his welcome.
... That means he doesn't live there and just happens to stop by because he saved them by helping Sumiyoshi's wife give birth.
Muzan can see through the eyes of all demons, they are by all definition extensions of his body/being. But he can't just teleport to them or anything, he feels their feelings and by extension can tell when they die. Especially so for the moons as they have the most blood from muzan.

3:17 the text was the thoughts of the cat worrying about Tanjiro and the cat was shaking from emotions (sadness:happiness: relief) of seeing tanjiro waking up and being ok.
Upper two was Upper six when he met Ume and Gyutaro.
Meaning the last rank changing between upper moons over a century ago mentioned by Muzan might have been him swooping to second rank, which would make us defeating an upper moons even more celebratory for demon slayers
The thing you got wrong is that even tho tanjiro cut off gyutaro's neck, it was 80% tengen. Tengen fought gyutaro at the start and the end and cut off his legs and held him in place for tanjiro to cut off his head. Tanjiro couldnt even last 5 seconds against gyutarou even when he was recovering from the poison. I read somewhere that gyutarou was uppermoon 4 level but since he was bunched up with daki who was lower moon 1 level, they got the upper moon 6 rank. So as a summary
Tengen :- 65%
Tanjirou :- 15%
Inosuke and Zenitsu :- 10%
Nah, imo it was:
Tengen: 80%
Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke: 5% each
Nezuko: 3%
Wives: 2%
Naah the gyutaro being UM 4 level is BS , at best he could fight gyokko(um5) on even terms but UM4 is way ahove these two , the rest you got right

The thing with the multiple people leading up to the sword smith village works because even the last person who can head to the village only knows that part of the path. So even if they are captured and the demons obtain the information that person knows, they still won’t know the way that leads up to that final path.

Before the anime aired this scene. This was one of the most anticipated staff meetings in all time. So cool how they all gathered in on le place being all evil and stuff
To comment on something you said during the Upper Moon meeting, Doma (upper 2) was indeed the demon who made Gyutaro and Daki into demons. We did actually see his number at the end of S2 and we saw that he was Upper Rank 6 at the time, so he's climbed the ranks since then and his Upper 6 title was taken up by Gyutaro and Daki
Tanjiro about to do a side quest that grants him a legendary end-game weapon 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The cat that delivers the blood is named Chachamaru and is a demon that became friendly with Lady Tamayo which explains why he couldn't deliver blood after the Mugen Train arc. He was shaking cause even he was worried about Tangiro's coma.
Once the anime is over, I would like 💯 % support “The Upper Ranks” as a spin-off series. It would be so cool to get multiple seasons tracking how they formed, the hashira they faced etc.

57:28 - That's a cultural (at least in the anime) thing, you can meet in a lot of anime. Whispering straight to the ear, pronouncing name letter by letter, cleaning ears, or head resting / sleeping on woman's knees, hence why Tanjiro got exited. But usually nose bleed in the anime are referred to some kind of sexual excitement.

I think it would help to pay attention to voices as similar looking characters in anime have different voice actors usually mean entirely different characters. Same hair color does not mean blood relationship necessarily either.

Douma is such a well made character because he is so likable, I can't help it and yet I know he is the worst, no really, in my opinion he is the absolute worst of all demons and I can't help but like him and given his occupation it makes so much sense that that's the effect he has on the audience, but it's not easy at all to portray a character like that.

That guy who you said looks like Kokushibo(upper rank one) is actually Yoriichi(the same guy during the flashback that Daki had of Muzan when she saw the earrings of Tanjiro). He’s Kokushibo’s twin brother. That explains why they look similar.
I still need to watch but what a blessing! Also wanna point out, Upper two is the demon we saw last season at the end, but at the time he was Upper six. He just rose through the ranks.
Edit:(as i go along watching) That guy that had you mindblown, remember, he looks like and is that guy from daki her flashback! When Tanjiro was saying what is so fun, and then the "Memory of the cells" kicked in and the samurai that drove Muzan in a corner said, "What is so amusing, killing innocent people" or something like that.

Tanjiro’s family has always been charcoal makers. So he was confused how his father knew a demon slayer technique. The flashback with the guy who looks like Tanjiro explains that Tanjiros ancestor admired the guy who is now the rank 1 demon, back when he was still human. So he decided to pass down the techniques to his descendants.
Inosuke really does love tanjiro.
The final chapters of the manga really made me cry out, because of how caring inosuke is.

Clarifications without spoilers: Ubuyashiki is just The Master and his family. We still don't know why Muzan wants the Blue Spider Lily, but he keeps asking about it, and the first time he mentioned it was when he scolded Akaza after killing Rengoku. He didn't tell Gyoko and Hantengu to look for the Blue Spider Lily (though he still wants that); he told them to follow up on the lead that Gyoko found, but we still don't know what that lead was. Also, you're wondering if the guy we saw in the flashback is Upper 1; if you pay very close attention, you can figure out whether or not they are the same.

It’s funny that a lot of people who didn’t read the manga think that Yoriichi is related to Tanjiro and when they see Kokushibo they think he is tanjiro father and literally no one linked Muichiro to any of them when in reality he is the one who’s relate to them Yoriichi was like tanjiro grandfather friend
If you ask why Muzan doesn't go for Tanjiro or the other slayers directly, it's simply because he doesn't know where they are. All the shelters, facilities and especially the main headquarters of the corps always try to be as hidden as possible from the demons so as not to suffer attacks, in fact it is said how over the centuries the corps was close to extinction several times because of that, therefore they always take all possible precautions. It is true that Muzan is very afraid of Tanjiro's solar breath, but he knows that he is not at the level yet, he would go to kill him and the master directly if he knew where they are, but he doesn't.
We did see the number last episode: Douma, current upper moon 2, used to be upper moon 6 at the time he turned Gyutaro and Daiki into demons, then they all climbed the ranks.
