Should have been one man being trapped in the building for five nights trying to survive

Completely agree. Would’ve actually been scary.

@@RendanLovell it wasnt made to be scary or attract people who are new. Scott said he was making this game specificaly for the die hard fans of FNAF so there wasnt a goal to apeal to a new unknowing audience. it was made all for the fans and the lore.

Literally what I call "Venom the movie" theory
Where the audience just wants film slop about the character they want to see to see so they like it regardless of quality
    VS
The critics who know this is a film with lots of plot holes and not very good

as a early 90s born guy who doesn't really like or follow the games shared with freedy's gen, the movie was very good - making a great videogame movie solution is simple, like comic books, you need to adapt it to the audience catered towards movies to make it easy to understand and follow, also complex/enjoyable, and have it compete with the other movies in the theaters during that time

Dude hell yeah I just gotta say I really respect this take, and the time you took to explain the critic divide which literally nobody else is doing. This was really cool. well done, I would have liked to see some examples from the film what specifically you didn't understand or covered cinematography not on par etc but still a good video on your part. maybe a part 2?

Idk I agree with what is said here but I feel its more than that. I feel like the third driver of these score differences is that fans of the game will rate the movie highly even if its bad because they are either "Just happy to finally see it on the big screen." Or because they desperately want the movie to be successful so that they can get a second one that is hopefully better. I don't agree with either of those things though because making companies think a movie like this is a success means we just get more garbage. More movies where their only goal is to achieve the bare minimum of simply putting the characters into a movie.

The problem is not that critics and audiences have different opinions and evaluate cultural texts differently. This has always been the case. The problem is that, through populist politicians and social media, the opinion of critics is now worth nothing, and every Internet user, even those without any critical or journalistic background, considers themselves competent to judge culture.
People today think they know everything, simply because they have access to media that allow them to express their opinion. Even though, more often than not, these opinions are so shallow and amateurish that they are essentially worthless.
