I previously felt it was ridiculous people were so mad about the red eyes, but now I’m not sure where I stand in the argument. One thing I do know my overall opinion is that I love how Jim Henson’s Creature Shop nailed the designs from game to reality. That was the only detail I really cared about. I’m not sure where I stand on the film rating, although I immediately can’t stand how kids have basically taken over the fandom. All I know is I’m determined to see this in theaters instead of on Peacock.
Well hopefully I've suceeded in articulating why the eyes are important, as opposed to just saying "that's how they were in the games!" But yeah, I'll be sure to see it in theatres too.
I feel like the red eyes give the animatronic a more cartoony "it's evil" vibe rather than the white pupil's "there's something serously wrong with this thing" vibe.
The red eyes is deliberate to make Freddy a "bad guy". Where originally "Freddy" was suposed to be a Phantom of a dead child. That Ghost entity is suposed to be a character. Not the animatronic itself.
I think it's a combination personally. The red eyes suggest evil intent, whilst the eyelids give them emotions. Both of which causes them to deviate from their original vacant and uncanny expressions.
@@SomeBoiOnline agreed,i mean the animatronics should look off, like lifeless... its just not giving me the same vibe as I have when I first played fnaf 1 yk?
I 100 percent agree. As an 18 year old who grew up with the fnaf games (and loved them for their horror elements) it pains me to think that this movie might just pander to kids who’ll piss themselves if something genuinely frightening happens. UPDATE: After seeing the movie, I can confirm that my fears were 100% realized. Such a shame.
That's how I feel with Security Breach (also almost 18 and remember how scary FNAF uses to be), from everything they have done so far it makes me worried about the direction they want to take FNAF. All because of those stupid truth or dare sfm animations
Absolutely the same here if its not at least explained why all this is like that and changed later on (trailers can be edited easily u saw what happened with infinity war) in the movie I am genuinely considering to sue (i know it sounds dumb) we've been waiting almost 10 years for this sh!t and if not at least make it have a little gore and more jumpscares
Not much r rated movies out anymore with fnaf being as terrifying and dark as it is if it is r rated it might be the biggest movie of the year many potential
I think the best way to make the characters “scary” is not to make the intentionally scary. It’s more supposed to be disturbing. Which is scary? Someone jumping at you and scaring you for a second, or having someone stare from the darkness, not truly knowing if someone or something is there. Personally, that second one is terrifying
That's why I love thriller movies!! The eerie feeling I get that stays even after the movie is 100% better and stays longer than something jumping at me every other minute. It's stupid when something is supposed to be scary but fails because I KNOW. It's better when it's not the specific intention!!!
The animatronics were never supposed to look evil or malicious, they’re supposed to look “off”. In the way that animated Chuck E Cheese wasn’t supposed to freak kids out but it was too uncanny
It pisses me off how so many people who are big in the FNAF community on Twitter downright think FNAF had NEVER been scary and just goofy. This isn't even reading between the lines some of them outright said it.
Those black and white dead uncanny eyes are what made the first game's terrifying. It also made it hard to play without getting genuinely creeped out. And so I hope and pray that they change the eyes too the original
I'm sorry, but heating about the white dots put a cool scene in my mind. It's as follows: imagine if a security guard is pointing a flashlight at one of the animitronics staring mindlessely at a random direction. Then as he starts pointing it away, the darkness reveals white dots staring straight at him. Idk what it is about it, but the thought sends chills down my spine!
Exactly like they can just stand in the darkness and you'll only see once you notice the two tiny dots staring down at you. This is gonna be a shitshow
it's funny you bring that up, because something similar to that is done in the 1st game, mainly with freddy. freddy always hides in dark areas, or very far away from the cameras. the only indication he's there is the 2 white dots, which, when looking through a low quality camera, are very hard to spot. and if you aren't paying attention or don't know where to look, he could easily take you by surprise, by seemingly disappearing for a long period before reappearing much closer to your office. replace those white dots with these comedically over the top, glaringly obvious red eyes, and he can't sneak up on you. all of that surprise factor is gone.
Just imagine Your walking down a dark hallway and you see two small yet noticeable white/sliver dots. You don't know what they are but as you go closer and closer you notice what those dots are... Again You are walking down a dark Hallway and you see two red glowing eyes and you immediately know someone or somethings
@ashtimbo pretty much. Like how the real eyes are staring aimlessly and feal dead. However, after the light is moved away the darkness reveals the iconic white dotted eyes staring directly at you expectantly.
I fully agree with you! The most scary part for me is the fact that the animatronics are essentially just shells being moved around by the spirits. Them being almost completely static from the waist up while walking is freaking terrifying! _And_ at the same time makes Springtrap's movements even more fitting, since he's the first "animatronic" to actually have a person moving inside, making the suit twitch and limp around.
@@SomeBoiOnline This is kind of the first time I've truly, fully thought about the animatronics like that, and combining that with the incredible walk cycle animations, it makes them seem so much scarier than they ever have been. Now I really want to see that in the film... which it doesn't look like that will happen. So I'm glad I have that imagery of them now, but also a little sad knowing what I could have seen.
I keep seeing the “Afton control” theory over and over again and I can’t help but face palm. Afton isn’t supposed to have any control over the animatronics. He uses the Spring Bonnie suit to trick them into thinking he is one of them. As soon as the illusion is dispelled, they turn on him.
Couldn't agree more, I've had about a hundred comments repeating this same theory as if it's fact. Do they expect him sitting in the safe room with a remote control or something? 😅
@TimDuckPlays I’d love to see a single instance of Afton using the show program to control the FNAF1 animatronics. It doesn’t work on possessed animatronics
It hurts because everything apart from the red eyes and making them expressive, everything else about their designs is dead on! I've never had the guts to play a FNAF game, but I follow the story and lore and while I wouldn't call it terrifying. There is a sense of dread, something being wrong and adult fear. I'd say these elements are when the series is at it's best, after FNAF 3 it sort of derailed. Turning the main four into "Hurr-Durr evil animatronics" kinda misses the point, at rate I might as well watch Willy's Wonderland or the Banana Splits movie. The true evil isn't the animatronics, it's Fazbear entainment, and William Afton aka Springtrap. The only EVIL animatronics we actually see in series are the Circus troop - made by Afton, Baby's possessed by his daughter, and the possessed Glamrocks in Security Breach.
That's spot on. If there's any "stupid campyness" in the franchise it's in the form of William Afton as the villain. The original animatronics were always just unsettling, as is their situation when you think about it.
This right here. The main 5 animatronics were never truly evil from the start. They’re just misguided angry spirits seeking vengeance. If the movie goes with the “animatronics are just evil mindless killing machines” route then it’ll completely miss the point of the franchise
I agree, the eyelids and redness are the worse, they make the animatronics feel like characters with emotions, like made to be scary jn a corny way and not eerie and uncomfortable how they should be
I do think pg-13 horror could work. After all we never see any actual gore or anything in a FNAF game itself, as long as the uncanny aspects are captured it should be fine (not looking good tho based on the eyes)
@@coldshock5181 there is a way to make both audiences happy this kid version released WITH the R rated version 2 versions of the same movie same story but added scenes that were either censored or not shot in the kids version but I doubt they'll take this approach
Totally agree, what made the OG animatronics scary was the ambiguity of weither or not they where glitching animatronics, or legitimately haunted. The red eyes make them all look like evil stoners.
Agreed. Red eyes is so overused. The black soulless eye sockets of a shell is just so much better and disturbing, although not cannon I like the RUclipsr memebear I think where they had actually human eyes sometimes, just black eyes. It was terrifying
You hit the nail on the head about the animatronics being turned into to characters. Because that's exactly what happened in security breach; the animatronics had personalities. I love how accurate the animatronics are, but you're right that the eyes play a big role in their scariness, so if they are done wrong, it ruins the whole purpose. Fnaf 1 is about the fear of the uncanny, not the fear of what is obviously evil. If they did tone the animatronics down because of the kids, then I find it quite silly since they're really just animatronics.
A cool detail, diferent of Bonnie and Freddy who have some renders of they silhouette with the glow eyes, Chica simply have none, and can be still scary simply by having no expression, like her hallway render
My theory is that blumhouse would do the same to the FNaF movie from what they did with Megan. Make it PG-13 in theaters for the kiddies who watch huggy wuggy farting on a baby, and make it R-rated on peacock or prime
I also think toning some of it down for the kids is so stupid! I was in middle school when me and a lot of other FNAF fans I know really got into the franchise. We were able to handle the horror because the horror wasn't about blood and gore but it was about the implication. The implication of ghost kids, the implication of child murder, the implication that not everything was as it seemed. I'm still looking forward to this movie and will probably enjoy it no matter what but I can definitely see the potential that will be lost with this film.
My biggest problem with people defending the red eyes is is that the movie isn't being produced by a small filming company. I still personally excuse security breach because it was a small company being rushed to make a game. The movie is being made by a MUTI MILLION DOLLAR company! They have NO EXCUSE if the movie is bad. (Plus, as other people pointed out, we've been waiting for this movie for 8 years) I think that's something people aren't taking into account.
plus Scott went by the books he made which is why the eyes are red i don't see why everyone hates it i mean yea it looks weird cause the games showed the silver eyes but the movie isn't the game its the lore which we all have been waiting for aswell so i say the eyes are perfect because that's what they indented you can't really change the lore that's been written already
@@NoctivalOfficial you know that the books follow a parallel universe? only something's are the same in both universes I'm going to take as an example the only one I read (the twisted ones) in the book there's William afton, he exists in both universes, but in the book universe there are roaming animatronics that kill peapole at night and when comes the day they bury themselves, this doesn't exist in the game lore. sorry for any grammar errors
In all honesty the main issue with me is the eyes and the squinting eye lids. It takes away that lifeless feel the white dots had (plus makes them look stoned)
What people don’t understand is that we don’t hate the red eyes, we are just worried about what the red eyes entail. This is going to sound like a stretch, but if you are a die hard horror fan, you will understand what I’m saying. Red eyes in horror are so generic and “cheap”. They’re usually added in a movie as a poor attempt to scare the audience. Examples of this would be the Banana Splits and Chucky (2019) movies. I sincerely hope they don’t do something dumb like making the animatronics controlled by an evil AI. Also, add the fact that this will be a PG13 movie makes us even more worried because signs are starting to point that this will be a cash grab of a movie with no passion in it. This could very likely be a disappointing, corporate, soulless attempt to make money. The producers probably figured this movie will make money regardless of quality because it’s FNAF so it’s too big to fail. This means they just won’t add a lot of passion into it since it’ll succeed regardless. Again, I’m going to hold out hope that this movie will be faithful to the lore of the games because I’ve been a fan for so long, but I cannot deny the many red flags I’m noticing for this movie.
Thanks so much for explaining this. Yes, the red eyes are (ironically) a red flag as to what the rest of the movie could entail. I'm still holding out hope that it'll be good, taking into account Scott's involvement, as he's been very particular when it comes to the production of this movie.
Why are they going out of their way to appeal to kids? I was a kid when fnaf came out, and it was the dark, mature themes that got me into the series to begin with. They shouldn’t deny that to the newer generation of fans.
I deeply agree with you. Most of what you said was exactly what I thought about the trailer. The teasers did truly make me fear that the presence of a younger audience is removing the best part of the franchise, the horror elements.
It would be nice if it was rated R there are kids that want to watch rated R movies but have to wait. The younger generation just has to wait and be hyped for it when older. Why can’t it just be like that like. I waited to watch certain rated R movie or just watch rated R movies at another family members home and loved them. I’m now just a common horror fan hoping this movie keeps its elements on lore and wanting unique vibes.
@@cassonahunter9345 Honestly I don't think rates r is needed, some cheap gore here and there wouldn't add much to fanf, in which we don't see any real gore in the games (or anything rated r for that matter)
I agree, when the movie was announced I was hoping it would be reasonably gory and flat out dark with no hesitation to include controversial topics. But when it said Pg-13, oof, that’s gonna limit a lot. Of course my hopes before the movie rating was released was more of just personal taste.
I absolutely agree that making them look too “human” actually hurts the scare factor. What made the animatronics scary is how lifeless and unnatural they were. They are just objects being moved by FNAF magic and not literally doing anything themselves. Now it feels like the animatronics themselves are what’s alive and doing the stuff.
I was afraid that these comments would be calling other fans “ungrateful”, but I’m pleasantly surprised. We aren’t nitpicking for the sake of it; we’ve been waiting YEARS and I think we’re allowed to have our feelings about a franchise we so deeply care about.
my guess is some fans are in denial of there being anything wrong with movie, since they waited so long for it, and that why complain about other fans complaing about the red eyes,
I agree with all your points about the horror. the whole point of fnaf was not "red eyes scary monster gnashing teeth", it was the uncanny subversion of these animatronics for children. the issue is that the *whole movie* has already been filmed. it's done. and it's probably hella expensive and hella difficult to edit the entire thing so there are no red eyes anywhere.
@@realbrobo the only issue is that this is fully live action. sonic was relatively easy to replace, just make and rig a new model to replace it. this is real life, real lighting , and it would be soo hard to replace throughout a potentially 2-hour long movie. it might be better to view this like the books. not following fnaf canon completely. i mean, where in the games do they have a saw face-torture device?
@@ReddRaven_ have you seen how movies are edited? sometimes editors go scene by scene to completely change the enviroment. Only changing the eyes in a few scenes wouldnt be so difficult
No pal, rewind. Folks, what are we even talking about? They can definitely do it without any problems and we should know it better than them. If they don't do it they're either making a very bad decision or just being tremendously lazy. I mean, isn't it a known fact that almost all fiction movies nowadays use lots of advanced CGI, tons of FX effects...? You all been living under a rock for the past 100 years or am I missing something? 😂 They just have to edit the characters' eyes in some scenes. That's it. Is that so difficult? They literally just need to add some crappy post-production effects. One single person (a fan) managed to do that in a very short period of time for the whole trailer and you're telling me they can't? There are no excuses. If we're getting the red eyes it's intentional.
To me, it’s all in the execution. I see a lot of people theorizing that the red eyes are significant because william afton has taken control of the animatronics to try and get Mike and Abby, and if red eyes were really the best choice to go with for the plot of the film then that’s fine by me, *but why on gods green fuck did they make the whole eye glow?* if they had just made the pupil alone glow then it would’ve looked much better imo. Not to mention that because the whole eye glows, it makes the animatronics facial expressions more apparent and noticeable which makes me take them less seriously.
@@ediblepencil494 Sure, but there’s a point when criticism gets ridiculous. Like when people say that the eye color could be indicative of the movie being awful, which has yet to be determined.
@@wrath4452 yeah some people do go way overboard and say the movie is already ruined 'cause of the way the eyes are. but in terms of the more calm and collected people who aren't overreacting, i understand why the red eyes make them worry. while we ONLY have a teaser for now, and it's not even a minute long, it does already set somewhat of a tone for the movie and the tone that the glowing red eyes with the visibly angry expressions have set is kinda... goofy. like it makes you think this movie might not be anywhere as scary as it CAN be. this IS supposed to be a horror movie at the end of the day
Hopefully the red eyes won't be a big part of the movie and only show up in a few sections, cause this trailer does have a pretty uncanny moment, that being when the security guard pulls back the curtains on the stage, and we see the trio standing there motionless in the dark. It brings back a old fear i always had visiting the chuck cheese stage and being to to scared see what the animatronic did when it was not performing. While I personally didn't find the red eyes as a huge deal, I can definitely see how it can take away from the horror aspect of the film now and maybe even ruin the movie for some, so thank you for actually making your reason for hating them make sense lol.
I completely agree, the whole reason they scare the viewer is the non-human-like expression. Adding expression to the eyelids and eyebrows makes them seem like a person and a lot less scary, and doesn't get the forced motion point across.
I honestly think they might stick with the uncanny feel in the movie since we haven't even seen the animatronics move while hunting Mike and Abby. The only time we see them move in the trailer is when they're performing and their movements in performing are completely accurate to the games.
Personally, I feel the blank stares with small white pupils is scarier than the red eyes. We've wanted this FNAF movie for so long, you want it to be as perfect as possible. Now, I'm not saying that the red eyes will make or break the movie, but just slightly concerned is all. Still very much excited for the film
My theory is that it’s gonna like Megan’s story. In theatres, it will be red eyes for all the children fandom, but a unrated version will be out in platforms like Peacock or Amazon Prime. Megan was 13+ in cinemas but R in Amazon Prime. But i’m all the way for the black eyes 🙌!
One of the things I feel people don't point about the white dot eyes is that, from any angle, it looks like the animatronic is starting at you. The red eyes take away from the empty dead stare that the ghost eyes while adding anger, which is ok from the angle of the spirits, but it's removes some of the lifeless feel that these animatronics give
Angry, fierce eyes can work, but the film's eyes just fall short of that either, too expressive to be creepy because they're lifeless and too tame to be creepy because of the palpatable rage
Keep in mind we have waited for this movie for 8 years so when it comes out as a cheap movie we have even more reasons to be mad and yes i think dots look way better i hope they do the sonic thing
the difference between sonic and the fnaf animatronics is that sonic was around 90% cgi, while the animatronics are 100% real including the eyes. and the movie is already done filming. so they would either have to make every scene again which would take so much more time and would delay the movie. or they would have to edit the eyes which would be really expensive.
@@darksun4029 Dude, people on RUclips fixed the Red eyes issue from the teaser in a day and a multi-million dollar company should also be able to fix it
I think a bigger issue is that the film seems too colorful and bright, and the eyes represent that. In the games, you can either see the animatronics or are squinting in the darkness (remember looking for Springtrap in the fnaf 3 cams?). It's more immersive to look in the darkness and see the white eyes through them. But the red eyes doesn't make sense, like why would the engineers add red eyes and have it be approved? What use is that at birthday parties?
ive been assuming the red eyes were chosen because they are more easily distinguishable from what already appears to be a pretty dark set. also it would make it easier for audience members to tell when the animatronics are possessed. personally i also think giving them facial expressions only makes them look sillier (akin to the banana splits slasher) in combination with the red eyes ultimately ive been waiting for this movie since i was a teenager so nothing as trivial as eyes is gonna keep me from it😅
I think that the bloodshot eyes that Freddy has in that one shot are amazing and that they could do really well, but the regular red eyes just aren’t scary to me, though the movie isn’t “ruined” because of this
Exactly. That shot is the closest we get to that feeling of the original games, where they just look *off.* Too human while simultaneously not human enough. It would have been such an easy compromise to just dial it back to that level.
But its not only the red eyes tho, its the fact that they squint and have "angry eyes" it makes them look extremely unscary and childish like a cartoon
I would imagine it was a choice made by Scott himself. It would most likely be for a reason, and this probably takes place in a different universe, (because of the whole multiverse thing), so it could be for a reason that is unique to the movie's respective universe that doesn't necessarily exist in the games' universe. (Just like how William's "death" in the Silver Eyes is different from that of the games). Edit: But we'll just have to wait and find out for when the movie comes out, and hey, maybe they will change it...who knows?
@@emanuelandrei7250 idk why blue just watch the leaked trailer at the end a golden freddy animatronic and a little girl get into a taxi and the animatronic has blue eyes
I was a kid when FNAF came out. The reason why I loved this franchise was because the animatronics were supposed to be friendly. When you look at those animatronics stare back at you with a blank face and see their head twitching and the creepy sounds that were coming from them. Would instantly put you into panic mode and make you ask yourself, "what's going on here, this isn't normal". Until you look at the camera in parts and service room when bonnie is in there and see his hollow lifeless eyes staring into the camera and confirms your suspicion.
Somehow I think that the main reason the movie took so long was Scott himself personally waiting for OG fans to be mature enough to understand his concepts. How I wish this was made only for us... Well, idk.
From a creative standpoint I agree, from a technical one I completely disagree, my assumption is the red eyes where picked for one rating, and two practicality, the effects of the movie are most likely nearly all practical and hence why the white pupil is impossible, this is the next best and more true to life way to make the animatronics look possessed. Ps: really well produced video just my 2¢
I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand. They should be making the movie for the true fans that’s been there from the beginning not the five year olds. And this movie needs to be 18+ because half the fucking premise of these games is a crazy man, murdering kids and stuffing them in animatronics. There is no way they could do that for a PG-13 rating, and not being satisfying.
I think there going for an intimidating as opposed to the dead look, there could be a way they make it work with the red eyes, but considering that the eyes can change color they may have a diffrent purpose
I personally don’t really like the red eyes because I recall joining the fnaf community back in early 2015 and being terrified to dead by their ominous stares and the iconic white pupils that is pretty much iconic to fnaf
people said mario movie would suck because of Mario's voice, look at where it is now. I don't think, if you're in for an experience, it would matter much.
people can bash me and others all day long, but red eyes just didn't work imo like it would be cool if the pupils were red or they went with the black eyes, idk just looks generic and not scary to me
As I told my friends, those that I've been sharing and discussing theories with since the first game came out "I'm happy that the movie is finally coming out, it's finally real, but I know that it will be heavily 'hollywoodized' like the Slenderman movie, but I don't care, I'm just glad that our fantasies finally became a reality"
also in the leaked trailer there was a really cheesy marvel-reminiscent line which also doesnt give me hope for this film lol. it was something among the lines of (spoiler ig): "there are ghost children possessing giant robots? thanks for the heads up 🙄" reminds me of willys wonderland too which is...oof.
I see the business standpoint of it and the fact that there are many children into FNAF, but I can't help but remember the entire series is based off of grisly child murder and death. Are we forgetting that the entire concept and most likely intentions of the creator was not exactly a child friendly franchise?
They nailed everything except the eyes and it is kind of a bummer. I'm still very much looking forward to the movie, however, something is lost by this choice. When I was younger by far the thing that resonated with me most wasn't any jumpscare, it was screens like 2:48 (imo still one of the most terrifying screens of ANY fnaf game). When the game first came out this one image alone was burned into my head, and any time I was alone in the dark it felt like Bonnie was staring at me when I wasn't looking.
Thank you for making this video. The first thing I said about the trailer when I saw it (and I saw it 16 minutes after it was posted) was "why do they have red eyes???".
My exact thoughts. I was up at like midnight when it had dropped, (the trailer and poster) and I was super excited. I’m trying to not let the red eyes get to me, though, even if they are the opposite of what I was hoping for.
I'm glad im the newest trailer they toned dowm the redness, but I now realize that the animatronics having *expressions" makes them less uncanny, thus less scary. Thank you for bringing this into light.
I do prefer the white eyes with black pupils, I remember seeing Bonnie in the camera for the first time with those eyes and feeling unsettled when I was playing the game. However I have two theories as to why they have red eyes. My first theory is that red eyes mean William Afton is controlling them and they will use the black eyes with white pupils when the child is controlling. And my second theory is that they want Golden Freddy to feel unique and be the only one with those eyes.
@@grAnita-because he is. And by William controlling I think they mean by using a program because even if the animatronics are possessed they're still robots with programs like we see in Fnaf 3 ; even if William possessing Springtrap wants to reach you, the animatronic's program can't resist to go toward children's sounds.
@@grAnita- I honestly can blame you for that. You know, I still believe FNAF 4 named "The Final Chapter" is a real thing ; there was a before and an after FNAF 4 in terms of gameplay and lore. For me, I'm still interested in the lore, and I'm happy that it refreshed itself.
I agree with you on all these points especially with how FNAF drew people, like myself, with some of the horror aspects and uncanny feel. I keep reading comments about the red eye’s indicating that the animatronics are “evil”, but how would black eye with a single white pupil in the middle staring ominously at you not do the same thing. Though I guess it would make sense if the movie kept the white eyes solely for Gold Freddy, that would be cool too. I personally just feel like the animatronics with red eyes are going to seem like the cliche, typical “oooh spooky red eyes!” thing. I mean, I’m still gonna see the movie and respect it because I love FNAF but this was just my own opinion about the eyes. Especially since this is a small trailer and a poster. (Awesome video btw! Very much enjoyed it!)
Some people are saying the white dots won’t look good on film and red pops out more, but they could make the red eyes look like The Silver Eyes book cover before it changed
When I saw the red eyes I immediately thought of the banana splits movie which upset me because I was hoping this movie would be the movie to be different. its the movie that's been hyped up for YEARS
In my belief being part of the fnaf community since 2014, the eyes being read is a small detail with a big significance to the whole lore. I have read tweets, arguments and tiktoks about the animatronics being red eyed for the purple guy or the white eyes being possessed by the souls. Clearly if you played the games, the dots in the animatronics are part of the design. It's inside the endoskeleton's eyes and seeing the freddy jumpscare in fnaf 1, if you look through the frames, it is the shadow that covers the eye and makes the white dots glow. Foxy is another prime example as you see his jumpscare and in the cameras where his eyes always glow. Red eyes may be part of the lore however it takes place when afton wasn't incontrol of this pizzeria. I believe it was henry., however the eyes are not just eerie, it is canonically part of the design of these animatronics from the first game, and seeing as this is a teaser, maybe some changes could be made before the release of this movie.
I hate how the eyelids and eye brows move. Makes them feels more like humans than robots and it just doesn’t make it scary. The whole thing that made the first game scary was you had robots that moved and looked like one but behaved like they were alive.
I agree, they should use eyes that fit the shot, depending what horror their doing for in the shot. The lighting and expressions are the true deal breaker.
Red eye would be fine if it was only pupils. But angry eyebrow with weird lookin red glow seems like it's children's movie. (And it kinda is but still).
Finally someone touched on this in a well-thought-out produced video. I completely and totally agree. I'm tired of people saying that we're just "complaining" when in reality the current eye designs completely deviate from their original uncanny charm like you mentioned.
I think the red eyes were deliberate. Scott Cawthon has so much love for the series that he made, and he is the one who wrote the script. We've known for a long time that Scott doesn't do things by accident. Whenever something is shown it is done deliberately. So the red eyes are possibly significant to the lore of the movie. We've only seen 2-3 shots where the red eyes are in. There could be more that look better, or that's the only place they appear in. We can't just assume the movie's gonna be shit because of a design choice. This could be a flashback where the suit weren't possessed yet and are being controlled. We just don't know. I and many many others have been waiting for this movie for 8 years. I'm just excited it's being made. (Apologies for the long comment)
@@coldshock5181 I'm just saying that's all we've seen the red eyes in. There could be other scenes that look better and more frightening. We just don't know yet.
i know that the red eyes are anoying but scott made the movie the way he wanted just be happy about the movie and watch it scott has been working on it for a long time
7:33 I've been off and on with fnaf since its inception back whenever I was like 9. And I've always stood closely to just the games and some fan music. I never really liked any of the more goofy and weird stuff, like OCs and fanfic and whatever else every other fanbase also has that makes me kinda cringe on the inside. I stopped keeping tabs on fnaf full time after pizza sim. And anytime I checked up on the community after that, I noticed things started to become more and more oversaturated to the point where this didn't really feel like a horror franchise anymore, apart from a few amazing fan games and VHS tapes. But yeah, you could kinda see how the fanbase has rubbed off on Steelwool as well with sercuity breach.
That's my situation exactly, though I was a teen when the first game released. Followed it closely up until Pizza Sim, then gradually lost interest as for one, there was a sense of conclusion in that game. But the stuff that followed just became more cartoonish and Sci-Fi, with Scott himself eventually taking a step back - which was the final straw. I've popped back in now and then but didn't like what I saw, besides some very impressive fan VHS tapes that captured the horror of the originals.
this is very well put, it took the words out of my mouth. the new trailer (and new fnaf content as a whole) seems a lot more action-driven, rather than horror driven. the way that they act makes it seem like they are meant to be scary, and not actually scary in reality.
I am a child a 12 year old I grew with fnaf it hurts for me to look at the new red eyes the uncomfy look from the animatronics is what scared me as a child not the jumpscares, not the lore im here in this fandom for the horror and security breach just broke me I hate it it's more child friendly than scary it shouldn't even be called horror
2:48 absolutely spot on. Ive been playing the franchise since FNAF 1 came out and recently bought help wanted. The first time the game disturbed me was this moment. Really makes you feel like something is staring right back at you, even though you know it isn't there
I think this video may have convinced me that the red eyes probably not the best decision in the world. I used to think "So? It's just a colour." but now I do think that it looks quite silly. I really hope that they change it and go with the original white dots for eyes, even if it means that the movie needs to be delayed like a month or something.
Glad to hear that, the more you think about it the more it feels wrong. But yeah, as Shigeru Miyamoto once said "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad". Same would apply for the film!
It would probably take a lot longer than a month and cost a large amount of money because of how the red eyes were done practically, it would require them to change the animatronics, the lighting (the light from the eyes) in every scene within them, manually
I am fine with a 2 year delay, because movie critics and fans are going to go mad because of those red flags in AI bad guys. It will be worth it though i am not the makers of the film.
@Arsia but did they replace all the red light reflections? The environment would also need editing, even in the trailer edits, i haven't seen a single person change the ballpit red reflections from foxy's eyes or even the fur(maybe i missed one where they did), it isn't just draw over the eyes and making them black. If they did redo the animatronics in post, it would be a waste of the practical effects because it would be covered up with cgi
i highly agree with this and you made me realize something about fnaf i didn't know, i think the should change them to white dots in the movie on top of that remove the facial expressions and make the buildings lighting dark seeing them in this bright pizzaria is really destroying the creep factor they should definatly follow the same lighting rules as in some of the trailers like the fnaf 2 trailer where you can see just enough of the animatronic but still have them hidden in the shadows
I really hope its not gonna look like this and Scott is just being the great prankster he is and told them to make the trailer like this. And when we actually watch the movie we are gonna ascend to grave from fear. I mean after all, I remember him or someone who was working on the movie saying the movie is so scary and disturbing that they are not sure if they can show it to viewers.
I have watched the movie and it was pretty good. Even though how they designed the animatronics was pretty mid, but they still got solid jumpscares, but it could have been 10x if they made them like they were in the games. I had no problem with the red eyes considering that it means that William Afton is Controling them, and he kinda does that in the movie. But when they relized that it was William who killed them i got a little excited thinking that they will get the white dot eyes, but Nope. In my opinion they should have just based the movie on the actual lore.
What if he's trolling. Cause, he's been known to do that, on multiple occasions infact, maybe he made the eyes red intentionally knowing that people would be pissed about it. It's like when he said posted that sister location was canceled due to leaks and everyone believed him, and then he published the game anyways.i hope that this is the case, if it isn't though, he missed a massive opportunity to make a small detail that would've impacted the movie and the fan base as a whole.
The movie should of been a found footgae like blair witch or paranormal not a regular human horror biography movie. Come on blumhous3 wheres the elements that made your company what it is. And for a movie like this smh thisnis right up there alley and failed the phycological horror
my biggest issues was never the red eyes... it was the expressive face😂 making them looks like an SFM animation parody and look way too "pg-13". i would've been fine if they just look's dead, could've been more creepy. but oh well i don't wanna complain much before i seen the actual film, and it's still a blessing to have the movie getting realized anyway. but i hope the studio rlly listen to the critics so they can re-adjust some of the stuff
(My opinion before even finishing the video): Red eyes just feel like a robotic attic mode, normal white eyes makes it a little creepy because it’s just friendly animatronics that look like they have bad intentions which is just freaky, the little white dots definitely give it they freaky possessed look which is definitely more akin to the lore.

Well said
The red eyes is deliberate to make Freddy a "bad guy". Where originally "Freddy" was suposed to be a Phantom of a dead child. That Ghost entity is suposed to be a character. Not the animatronic itself.
@@gabrielchasecanceladosinap3959 they are animatronics.
I don't think the red eyes themself are the problem, it's the eyelids with the angry expression.
I think it's a combination personally. The red eyes suggest evil intent, whilst the eyelids give them emotions. Both of which causes them to deviate from their original vacant and uncanny expressions.

Not much r rated movies out anymore with fnaf being as terrifying and dark as it is if it is r rated it might be the biggest movie of the year many potential
the thing is fnafs popularity is the mystery not the horror
Judging by how Scott was a perfectionist about the fnaf script, I have high doubts this movie will fail given the amount of scripts it took
It's why I can't take the Annabelle movies seriously. She looks like a doll sold at Spirit Halloween.
That's why I love thriller movies!! The eerie feeling I get that stays even after the movie is 100% better and stays longer than something jumping at me every other minute.
Just imagine
Your walking down a dark hallway and you see two small yet noticeable white/sliver dots. You don't know what they are but as you go closer and closer you notice what those dots are...
Again
You are walking down a dark
Hallway and you see two red glowing eyes and you immediately know someone or somethings
so like the white eyes are staring in a different direction from the black eyes? Like the light conceals the true direction?
@ashtimbo pretty much. Like how the real eyes are staring aimlessly and feal dead. However, after the light is moved away the darkness reveals the iconic white dotted eyes staring directly at you expectantly.
I fully agree with you! The most scary part for me is the fact that the animatronics are essentially just shells being moved around by the spirits. Them being almost completely static from the waist up while walking is freaking terrifying! _And_ at the same time makes Springtrap's movements even more fitting, since he's the first "animatronic" to actually have a person moving inside, making the suit twitch and limp around.
Thanks! Absolutely, the imagery of them being used as vessels for the spirits is terrifying.
@TimDuckPlays because he tried it in twisted ones and it didn’t work
@TimDuckPlays bro sed "oh shit he actually read the book 🫣😦"
@TimDuckPlays yes and it happens to be really *stupid* thing from the books.
that walk cycle for chica just gives me chills for some reason 5:38
Because it's very convincingly done!
Me too I’ve never played the games fully but I’m so in tune with the story
Uh yeah.. black dead eyes are creepy and unsettling. The red eyes just kinda look dumb lol.
Hey, FNaF 4 was good too, what are you talking about?
I agree, the eyelids and redness are the worse, they make the animatronics feel like characters with emotions, like made to be scary jn a corny way and not eerie and uncomfortable how they should be

I do think pg-13 horror could work. After all we never see any actual gore or anything in a FNAF game itself, as long as the uncanny aspects are captured it should be fine (not looking good tho based on the eyes)

Some good observations, glad you agree!
A cool detail, diferent of Bonnie and Freddy who have some renders of they silhouette with the glow eyes, Chica simply have none, and can be still scary simply by having no expression, like her hallway render

@@sunshinewilburn3755 lmfaooo "huggy wuggy farting on a baby"
I also think toning some of it down for the kids is so stupid! I was in middle school when me and a lot of other FNAF fans I know really got into the franchise. We were able to handle the horror because the horror wasn't about blood and gore but it was about the implication. The implication of ghost kids, the implication of child murder, the implication that not everything was as it seemed. I'm still looking forward to this movie and will probably enjoy it no matter what but I can definitely see the potential that will be lost with this film.
Seeing a cinema full of young kids is gonna really piss me off when I watch the film...
@timduckplays9883 that's quite a large budget for a Blumhouse movie. Most of their films cost around $10-20 million.
plus Scott went by the books he made which is why the eyes are red i don't see why everyone hates it i mean yea it looks weird cause the games showed the silver eyes but the movie isn't the game its the lore which we all have been waiting for aswell so i say the eyes are perfect because that's what they indented you can't really change the lore that's been written already

That doesn’t remove any scare factor 🤦🏿♂️

I agree with all your points about the horror. the whole point of fnaf was not "red eyes scary monster gnashing teeth", it was the uncanny subversion of these animatronics for children. the issue is that the *whole movie* has already been filmed. it's done. and it's probably hella expensive and hella difficult to edit the entire thing so there are no red eyes anywhere.

They just have to edit the characters' eyes in some scenes.
Indeed, if there's a reason in the plot for the red eyes, they could've went with small red pupils like you say.

most of us were waiting for a fnaf movie when these children weren't even in an elementary school, I think we honestly deserve a say in this.
facts
But i’m all the way for the black eyes 🙌!

the difference between sonic and the fnaf animatronics is that sonic was around 90% cgi, while the animatronics are 100% real including the eyes. and the movie is already done filming. so they would either have to make every scene again which would take so much more time and would delay the movie. or they would have to edit the eyes which would be really expensive.
@@darksun4029 it must be perfect tho so a 1 year delay is nothing

People complaining about the Red eyes

The ones who like the red eyes are the kids that downloaded fnaf 1 but we’re too scared to play it
I think a bigger issue is that the film seems too colorful and bright, and the eyes represent that.
As long as the red eye thing is only used very briefly it'll be ok.
Definitely, I wouldn't mind that. It's just that their presence on the poster indicates it'll be the main look.
ive been assuming the red eyes were chosen because they are more easily distinguishable from what already appears to be a pretty dark set. also it would make it easier for audience members to tell when the animatronics are possessed.
personally i also think giving them facial expressions only makes them look sillier (akin to the banana splits slasher) in combination with the red eyes
ultimately ive been waiting for this movie since i was a teenager so nothing as trivial as eyes is gonna keep me from it😅
This video is absolutely perfect.
Thank you! Glad to hear it.
It’s just kinda corny to have big red glowing eyes. The black sockets with white dots is a lot more subtle, yet much more striking.
Ok that one is fucking terrifying, the way he stares into your soul
(To me at least)
@@SCP-469 yeah
You mean the one behind the curtain where they are almost yellowish?
@@commandercorgi yeah
Yes the movie will definitely be in its own "universe" in the same way the novels are an alternate telling of the games. Who knows indeed...
The red eyes make the movie seem like it’s for kids. I mean it throws out all suspension of disbelief.
By the way in the leaked trailer that was 2 minutes, we do get the black and white eyes as well as red and even blue (idk why there's blue eyes)
Blue ?... wtf

@@Guff1809 did you read my argument ?
Red eyes make me think this is a child’s movie
Ps: really well produced video just my 2¢
Im not a fan of the red eyes, the white dot eyes are just so uncanny and THAT is exactly what makes the animatronics scary.
They look like they got pepper sprayed by a karen that got mad beacuse they didnt get a free pizza on their kids birthday
I think there going for an intimidating as opposed to the dead look, there could be a way they make it work with the red eyes, but considering that the eyes can change color they may have a diffrent purpose
I get the feeling this is some sort of "attack" mode, but so far it seems to be their default look when they're "alive".
@Some Boi Online I think it's meant to show their agression, because when freddy is first shown his eyes are green
@@SomeBoiOnline Then again, we haven't really seen much besides the film.
Funnily enough I wasn't one of those people. But as to how it'll affect the experience as a whole, we'll only know when the movie releases I suppose.
Mario's voice was not bad in the movie.
those that were children are now old enough to drink
people can bash me and others all day long, but red eyes just didn't work imo
like it would be cool if the pupils were red or they went with the black eyes, idk just looks generic and not scary to me
Generic is definitely a good word for it, considering FNAF is inherently so unique in its approach to horror.
This teaser trailer alone solos that dogs hit movie.
Who’s idea was that anyway?
also in the leaked trailer there was a really cheesy marvel-reminiscent line which also doesnt give me hope for this film lol. it was something among the lines of (spoiler ig): "there are ghost children possessing giant robots? thanks for the heads up 🙄" reminds me of willys wonderland too which is...oof.
You nailed it with all the points in this video, great job! I hope the team behind the movie see this and take it to heart
Thanks, glad to hear it!
i really doubt shit is gonna change even if they do see it, just adjust your expectations reasonably and try to have fun with the movie anyways ig lol
@@toophoot2757 nah I’m excited nonetheless it’s just fun to nitpick and talk about meaningless stuff🗿
Factsss
I'm sorry but I love the black voids with white dots on an animatronic
I hate that theory to be honest, makes William look like a super evil entity haha
@@grAnita-because he is. And by William controlling I think they mean by using a program because even if the animatronics are possessed they're still robots with programs like we see in Fnaf 3 ; even if William possessing Springtrap wants to reach you, the animatronic's program can't resist to go toward children's sounds.
@@rayanessaidi1674 yes but I just can't stand what happened to the lore after FNAF 3/4. It became so silly and insane, I just pretend it's not canon

Thank you!
I really don't think the red eyes take away from any of that, but who even said they will always have those red eyes?
They likely will but here's hoping they won't
Its not the eyes imo, it's the eyelidsgiving them expressions
I agree, they should use eyes that fit the shot, depending what horror their doing for in the shot. The lighting and expressions are the true deal breaker.
Red eye would be fine if it was only pupils. But angry eyebrow with weird lookin red glow seems like it's children's movie. (And it kinda is but still).
Finally someone touched on this in a well-thought-out produced video. I completely and totally agree. I'm tired of people saying that we're just "complaining" when in reality the current eye designs completely deviate from their original uncanny charm like you mentioned.
no argument needs to be had, there's literally a book called "Silver Eyes" they were never meant to be red
Honestly though, it being a flashback would make more sense as to why the animatronics are chasing a kid around, that is a smart idea!
Yea no, if the red eyes were meant to be a temporary thing I doubt they would be on the main poster for the movie
@@coldshock5181 I'm just saying that's all we've seen the red eyes in. There could be other scenes that look better and more frightening. We just don't know yet.
@@coldshock5181 Also, the poster is just meant for marketing, so yeah, it could be a temporary thing. I'm not saying it is, just that it could.

I've been off and on with fnaf since its inception back whenever I was like 9.
Dude, "C'mere Ye little sh*t" had me rolling for a good five minutes i'm definitely subbing
😂😂
this is very well put, it took the words out of my mouth. the new trailer (and new fnaf content as a whole) seems a lot more action-driven, rather than horror driven. the way that they act makes it seem like they are meant to be scary, and not actually scary in reality.
Really makes you feel like something is staring right back at you, even though you know it isn't there
what if Scott's trolling us and they'll look like how they do in the games?
@@qew_knight no it wouldn’t. Casual editors did it within a few hours. They can fix it
@Arsia but did they replace all the red light reflections? The environment would also need editing, even in the trailer edits, i haven't seen a single person change the ballpit red reflections from foxy's eyes or even the fur(maybe i missed one where they did), it isn't just draw over the eyes and making them black. If they did redo the animatronics in post, it would be a waste of the practical effects because it would be covered up with cgi
no one had a problem with freddy's red eyes in help wanted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i highly agree with this and you made me realize something about fnaf i didn't know, i think the should change them to white dots in the movie on top of that remove the facial expressions and make the buildings lighting dark seeing them in this bright pizzaria is really destroying the creep factor they should definatly follow the same lighting rules as in some of the trailers like the fnaf 2 trailer where you can see just enough of the animatronic but still have them hidden in the shadows
FNAF I’d argue isn’t for kids… I think the spirits in the animatronics can vouch for that
