    For the pattern scale I would make both sizes of elements available.
    Like, in Procreate I would make a large repeat pattern but then keep repeating it until the elements are very small inside the same size square.
    This way you can make 2 listings from one design which doubles your catalog.
    Some people like to make bedding, a duvet cover as example, with one side large print and other side with a matching small print.
    You could also make a coordinating collection. So you make one side large elements with the eyes and hearts, and then make a coordinated pattern with same color palette but just keep one of the elements and make it very small. Then one pattern with same color palette but make a stripe or small chevron.
    If you had 3 fabric patterns like this it increases the chance of someone buying this as a collection to make coordinating projects like a whole bedding set of sheets, shams and duvet cover that goes perfectly together without being too matchy.

    Fat quarters are popular with quilters. When I was a kid my grandmother told me that if you want to measure a yard you hold the fabric edge between two fingers, turn your head the other way and then hold the other side up to the tip of your nose. It won't be exactly a yard, but it will be close for most women. I'm 5'4" and am off by a half inch when I do it. So pretty close. She also taught m e to measure an inch by bending my pointer finger and using the space between my first and second joint. Not as exact or sciency as metrics, but you never lose your measuring tools.

    Hello Mey, I'm pretty new to Spoonflower myself, but maybe this will help:
    I uploaded the same design in vertical and horizontal orientation 3 times each, on the fabrics panel you can adjust the sliders, and I adjusted them 1 time for a small patterned design, like 17%, one middle one 37% and one in large 55% or something. It shows beautifully. When you upload the same design in a different coloring, you can use the same tags and almost the same title. For example: Elegant Plaid Pattern - Blue and Yellow, and you name the second -> Elegant Plaid Pattern - Green and Red. After a while, you can see that when you check your design in the shop, they added the second design as a color variation.
    Hope that helps! Big thanks as always for your big insight, Anett

      Thanks for the coloring tip, I actually am testing it now, changed some titles and descriptions yesterday to see how long it will take.. even though I have seen several listings with that color option- that have different titles completely. (so, ha? LOL)
      but it helps knowing it might take a few days , thanks

    The pink pattern is gorgeous ! Does spoonflower allow to upload same design in maybe 2 different pattern tile sizes ?

    • @Dani_UK
      @Dani_UK 27 дней назад +1

      Yes, they allow. And even without changing the digital file you can adjust the size of the tiles when you uploading them. You could upload the exact same file several times and use the editing tool to make it smaller. But if you want to make it bigger-you can’t 😀. So is better idea to upload large tiles and adjusting them for smaller ones with the slider or percentage box

    They have excellent quality. When testing had to be done to approve a fabric, I found the recommendation of people who waited until they had 42 designs and used the yard with 42 quadrants to see a sample of each pattern. It is an excellent option to know how your design looks in a small space (it happens to me that my motifs are spectacular on products for the home but if I want to use them for clothes... they wouldn't look so good because they would be big) You would have 42 designs in 8x8 inch or 20.32x20.32 cm squares that you can use quadrants to decorate the wall with hanging scraps or make Quilt-type crafts.

    Great video, Mey.I have a quick question..If I am opening a brand new POD apparel store on Etsy this month, should i focus on only 1 niche and 1 product type (t-shirts) OR Should I focus on multiple niche (10+) and multiple product types within the same category (like sweatshirts, hoodies, tank tops, t-shirts, hats)?

    I think you could offer multiple sizing options for different projects. Have a larger scale as you’ve received, offer a smaller scale and could even offer a much smaller scale for things like miniatures. I think having motif measurements could be helpful too.
    Would love to see a comparison of the Printful wall hanging and this one. The price difference is huge. Is it worth it?

    Such a fun video! Fabric is an addiction! The stash just keeps growing and growing. Great tip about ordering to see size of pattern.l I wouldcarry both the size you have and also a smaller version of the designs. Can't wait to see the rest of the series.

    Thank you so much, Mey, for the very helpful fabric review. Thanks to your last video, I started looking into Spoonflower.
    I was holding my breath as you opened the wall hanging because my concern was how/where they cut the final product out of the pattern.
    I suspect you made a pattern specifically for the wall hanging, right? Would you make a different pattern for other products that have different ratios, such as napkins or pillows?
    When I looked at the fill-a-yard option, the ratios are so different between options that I had to give up thinking about how to design for fill-a-yard options. Any thoughts?
    Thank you again.

    Fat quarters are more useful than a quarter yard because of the way they are cut. A standard quarter of a yard is a long strip basically so its not wide enough for certain things. A fat quarter is cut by taking a half yard and cutting it in half horizontally instead of vertically so its wider. Its still a quarter yard its just more of a square than an rectangle.
    Also yards can be different sizes length wise, 36 inches is a yard but the fabric may be 48 inches long, 52 inches long or 60 inches long. So a fat quarter may be less than you would actually get in a yard if the yard of material is 60 inches long. Yes American math is fun. PS I would love if you have a photo print piece to show. I would love to see how photos print on their fabric. Also buying fabric is an addiction, trust me I know, so be careful that urge to buy more doesn't go away.

    A fat quarter is a half a yard split down the folded side. Making it a quarter of a yard but the measurement is wider than a normal quarter of a yard off the bolt. That's why it's called a fat quarter because it's wider.

    I have not yet opened my Spoonflower shop but I have already made some patterns in three sizes and just add S, M and L to the name so the customer understand that it comes in multiple sizes and they can choose which pattern size they want for their project.
    Cotton poplin can be used for outer wear like jackets and coats.

    I love fabrics so much, It reminds me of when I was little, my mom, my grandma, and my aunt, .. used to sew, and there were trunks full of fabric, like real treasure chests! Regarding pattern sizes, as a user, I would love to have the option of two sizes for the patterns, or a version with very similar patterns in a smaller size, for smaller products, or also to make, for example, a duvet cover with one side having big patterns and the other side with matching small patterns! Or the fitted sheet with small patterns... And creating collections of matching patterns would allow for products made with multiple fabrics, whether it's quilting, a "one side big patterns / one side small patterns" design, or a lining, etc. This would really spark a lot of creativity and inspiration!

    A yard is 36 inches… so a yard of fabric could be 36X42. Another way to visualize a fat quarter is that if you divided a yard into 4 quadrants… you would end up with 4 fat quarters that are 18x21. Spoonflower has a lot of fabric sizes, but the fat quarter is always a quadrant.

    • @MeyTribe
      @MeyTribe  26 дней назад

    During the pandemic I ordered fabric from Spoonflower for masks. I would make patterns associated with professions and then line them with a cheaper plain cotton I got elsewhere. That would be a great way to compensate for the cost of the Spoonflower fabrics, to line them with something less expensive.

      But I have a full playlist of reviewing products and their quality, maybe you can check which of these items look in good quality to you- and then check their suppliers with Amazon?
