  • In this episode of The Mushroom Show, you'll get an inside look at a brand new multi-million dollar psilocybin mushroom farm, and learn what the future of psilocybin cultivation might look like in a legal-mushroom world. We also interview Robert Courteau of ThinkFungi about the largest fungal bio blitz in history. Finally, we discuss what mushroom made the list for the "most recalled product of 2022" and why that doesn't matter if you just grow your own.

Upon my first shroom trip, my depression disappeared overnight. It shifted my perspective on the way I viewed myself. It showed me that I was stuck in one way of thinking. This was unhealthy mentally and it was affecting me physically. Within 6 months of the trip, my chronic lower back pain disappeared, I'm sure it was due to tension and stress, and hasn't returned.

$200 an ounce, I’m surprised it’s not more. Last time I bought a zip of mushrooms. It was about $200 only because they were out of season and wild. I don’t live very far from Oakland. There is a church you could become part of, kind of like the same deal with the old-school medical marijuana cards. You fill out their paperwork become a member of the “church” and you can have access to any psychoactive plant. In legally due to it being part of your religion the prices for their mushrooms are ridiculous some $50 an eighth or more 400 ounces so when you stay $3600 for a pound I’d say that’s pretty joog. I know a guy right now growing his own, and he charges about five grand for a pound. Granted, some of the fruits were as big as my arm.

can't help but feeling weird about this.
I been using shrooms for more than 7years and they changed my life for the better and I can't imagine these things being part of a huge commercial thing.
All those people sound more like commercials and entrepreneurs than people that actually understand mushrooms...
It's all numbers and money and I fucking hate it.
"look at our pretty and easily digestible graphic design, our neat neon sign, see how much money? so impressive right?" like a carrot on a stick.
It's good that it'll become more widely available as I really believe it could help so many people but I can also forsee lots of cases of the "reckless type" of people going balls to the wall with those and feed psychedelic's bad rep.
So yeah wait and see I guess. I just hope it'll be done right.
People need to first be educated VERY WELL. You don't fuck around with them mushmush
Grow kits is all we really need tbh, if you care enough to tend to them for a few months, you show your care and respect and ought to be the kind of person that benefits from those instead of going full nightmare mode.

@@justinfranchi5936 Well to be fair I've experimented a lot of different doses. Spaced out big trips work fine but it's kinda like "positive trauma" past one point and so abstract you can't always bring everything back. After years of tripping w shrooms and acid I never had a bad experience and learned a lot on myself but I feel I'm coming to a closure or at least will slow down a lot on the big doses like in my early beginnings.
Small and microdoses is where i'm at now. which is very close to your "popping small amounts on a daily basis" except I take em 1day on 2 days off.
It sure sound bad when you pair it with that "starbuck, hustle, supplement" bullshit but that kind of practices genuinely pushes you in the right direction without any risks of freaking people out so it might be good for that kind of people lmao. Like for example I'll minidose a 0.5 in the weekend to paint, read and have a walk or microdose a 0.2 to quiet my eternal remnants of social anxiety as well as canalize my annoying adhd brain. but I don't have time to actually trip anymore. I came from very very far (ackward anxious type) now I'm percieved as pretty confident even though I'm still a little anxious inside , the goal of psychs is obviously to not need them anymore does that sound better to you? haha

I get where you're coming from, but not everyone has the time, space, or skill to grow medicine at their home. Some people don't have a home they can grow in. Some people just can't keep things alive (brown thumbs). Having safe access to high quality medicine of know quality and potency would be beneficial to a lot of people that wouldn't be able to produce their own. That said, I believe personal use production should be legal for all adults. I feel that way about pretty much all substances though. As long as it's being used responsibly I don't have an issue with a person using anything to make their life better. We aren't still living in Puritan times are we?

@@kevinpopescu9741 it sounds like you have some sort of superiority complex when it comes to mushrooms. mushrooms are mushrooms regardless of if you grow them, get them from a friend, or get them from a large company. to sit here and try to degrade others for how they acquire their mushrooms is exactly the opposite of how you should react. like i said it sounds like you just have a superiority complex, like "oh you had to buy your shrooms. sit peasant, youre in the presence of a master grower". it is beyond foolish to act like you can not benefit from mushrooms unless you grow them yourself. and your argument is completely garbage because im willing to bet you dont grow your own food or slaughter your own animals. just because you can grow something doesnt make it realistic for everyone to grow them. use brain please. also give anything to a large population of people, and there will be a group of people who will abuse it or act like fools, mushrooms are not special in this regard, so once again bad argument.

So surreal -- one thing I find encouraging is that whatever commercialization occurs, mushrooms will always be a DIY option if you so choose. And that includes whatever spiritual relation you have with it. Less criminalization can only be a good thing... but the medicalization/capitalism stuff... we'll see!
As someone who found the shroomery as a teenager, got myself a spore syringe from sporeworks, and have been having my own weird lil relationship with psilocybin ever since, I agree, its all very surreal.
PS I found your channel just from gourmet/medicinal mushrooms but I obviously had a prior interest. Does anyone ever get interested in mycology NOT from psilocybin shrooms? Seems to be the overwhelming majority 😃

That was fantastic. The tour inside the big grow facility was great, as was most of everything in this episode. It's only reasonable to make sure that cultural taboos that surround the use of fungi and plants that have functionally therapeutic don't hinder the scientific exploration of how they can benefit human health and well being. There are a lot of reasons for the hysteria surrounding the personal use of certain functionally therapeutic fungi, including "magic mushrooms", but I'm glad that cooler minds are prevailing around their place in actual medicine. That said, their place in spiritual use shouldn't be ignored either, in my opinion. Their lab gear was likely a substantial portion of their total cost of that facility. That's some sweet gear that I'd have no idea how to use. I do appreciate it though. Thanks for taking the time to edit and share this content. I know how much work it is.

I dove in head first and had monotubs of blue meanies, texans, chileans, B +'s, Amazonians, Burma's, to name a few. I only did it for 2 years until life got busy, and I always wanted to go to school for Mycology. I was an avid member of the Shroomery as well, so this was a walk down memory lane for me. I might pick it back up one day, as I also haven't reset myself with a psychedelic in a decades time. I need to. Just don't know where to get the stuff as I'm an old man now.

Set, setting and your personal biology will affect your journey to a potentially large degree. Maybe more than strain variation effects. That said, I've found wood lovers to be beneficial with less unpleasant physical effects. That can vary though, as wood loving mushrooms (cyan's etc) can cause temporary paralysis. I haven't experienced that, but I know someone that has. That could be extremely heavy in a trip. Not what I'd want for most people to have to endure.
I'd also guess that the growth medium and any mineral supplementation might affect the felt effects of a given strain. Growing conditions may play a factor too. Having access to their fancy lab gear would provide a lot of insight if a person were to be diligent in their testing.

Psilocybin isn't the only indole (psychadelic compound) contained in a mushroom... There are others such as baeocystin... Since real scientific study has just began on the chemical makeup/composistion of hallucinogenic mushrooms, it's not yet understood what role these other compounds play or how they interact with each other...
We do know that different "strains" have different % of those compounds, even more so among species outside of psilocybe cubensis, so it's very possible different mushrooms have some differing effects.
"Set & Setting" are important and should never be disregarded... especially considering it's one of the only variables we have control over.

One, they became the "thing" in '22 so many more people were trying their hand at using them leading to the increase in people suffering from improperly grown or processed. And two, every time something becomes "THE" thing there is a huge uptake in people trying to cultivating them and not all of them had the skill or care to grow or process them correctly.

Still keep small independent growers in business as a cottage industry and have the giants who mass produce because psilocybin is necessary for our evolution and we need a mass infusion to shift consciousness.

There was a very strange feature in this case, strange because of its extremely rare occurrence. This man had once been brought to the scaffold in company with several others, and had had the sentence of death by shooting passed upon him for some political crime. Twenty minutes later he had been reprieved and some other punishment substituted; but the interval between the two sentences, twenty minutes, or at least a quarter of an hour, had been passed in the certainty that within a few minutes he must die. I was very anxious to hear him speak of his impressions during that dreadful time, and I several times inquired of him as to what he thought and felt. He remembered everything with the most accurate and extraordinary distinctness, and declared that he would never forget a single iota of the experience. ‘About twenty paces from the scaffold, where he had stood to hear the sentence, were three posts, fixed in the ground, to which to fasten the criminals (of whom there were several). The first three criminals were taken to the posts, dressed in long white tunics, with white caps drawn over their faces, so that they could not see the rifles pointed at them. Then a group of soldiers took their stand opposite to each post. My friend was the eighth on the list, and therefore he would have been among the third lot to go up. A priest went about among them with a cross: and there was about five minutes of time left for him to live. ‘He said that those five minutes seemed to him to be a most interminable period, an enormous wealth of time; he seemed to be living, in these minutes, so many lives that there was no need as yet to think of that last moment, so that he made several arrangements, dividing up the time into portions-one for saying farewell to his companions, two minutes for that; then a couple more for thinking over his own life and career and all about himself; and another minute for a last look around. He remembered having divided his time like this quite well. While saying good- bye to his friends he recollected asking one of them some very usual everyday question, and being much interested in the answer. Then having bade farewell, he embarked upon those two minutes which he had allotted to looking into himself; he knew beforehand what he was going to think about. He wished to put it to himself as quickly and clearly as possible, that here was he, a living, thinking man, and that in three minutes he would be nobody; or if somebody or something, then what and where? He thought he would decide this question once
for all in these last three minutes. A little way off there stood a church, and its gilded spire glittered in the sun. He remembered staring stubbornly at this spire, and at the rays of light sparkling from it. He could not tear his eyes from these rays of light; he got the idea that these rays were his new nature, and that in three minutes he would become one of them, amalgamated somehow with them. ‘The repugnance to what must ensue almost immediately, and the uncertainty, were dreadful, he said; but worst of all was the idea, ‘What should I do if I were not to die now? What if I were to return to life again? What an eternity of days, and all mine! How I should grudge and count up every minute of it, so as to waste not a single instant!’ He said that this thought weighed so upon him and became such a terrible burden upon his brain that he could not bear it, and wished they would shoot him quickly and have done with it.’

I think in theory it might be a good idea but I really don't trust people to have the respect necessary to handle this. I worry it'll just be handled like the cannabis industry in Canada, more rules and less respect for the medicine. Mushrooms are not recreational, they demand respect and I just don't see society as a whole being able to use them accordingly. It will likely be seen by capitalism as another hot new commodity to market and see how much money they can suck out of it, just like the cannabis industry. Don't get me wrong, I don't think people should be getting in trouble for mushrooms but having mushrooms enter the conversation as a commercial product strikes me as wrong. The cannabis industry focused so heavily on profit that 4+ years later, customers and patients still can't reliably get the same product each visit. Considering most people don't have the discipline to grow mushrooms, we are going to not only supply them to anyone of age but also disrespect their origin as medicine by legalizing it as a recreational product? why not just de-criminalize and let those who want to use it, use it? Seems like money is the main motivator and I just don't know if this is really a positive step.
