  • At approximately 4:15 PM on on May 7, 2021, 911 calls began flooding in reporting multiple houses on fire in the area of 11th Avenue and 57th Street in Sacramento’s Tahoe Park neighborhood. Multiple off-duty fire personnel who live in the area were first on scene, and finding heavy fire between 2 residential structures, made sure that the immediate exposure buildings were evacuated. One house was occupied by an elderly wheelchair-bound woman, who was fortunately not home at the time of the fire. SFD Engine 6 arrived within minutes of the first 911 call, and immediately placed a line into service and began fire attack in one of the involved buildings. Due to extremely dry and windy conditions, within 5 minutes of the initial 911 call 3 houses and a poolhouse were well involved in fire. A second, and eventually third alarm were struck, bringing crews from throughout the city to the scene, with additional resources responding from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the West Sacramento Fire Department. The fire was eventually contained with no injuries to civilians or firefighters, and 2 dogs were rescued from the first structure to catch fire. The cause is under investigation.

Bypassing the downed secondary powerline and cautiously but efficiently going into the original house and making an aggressive interior attack. Cant tell you how many IC's wouldnt have let them go interior bc that pwerline being down. Strong work IMO

    USA fire departments need a swift kick in the butt!
    1. You do NOT bring a ladder to a residential fire unless it is a high-rise apartment fire.
    2. You DO bring an Engine with 1000 gallons of onboard water, a Deck Gun and two Booster Lines on reels.
    3. You can clearly see where the flames are and what is being threatened by them.
    4. You line the Deck Gun up, so it has a Line of Sight on the burning material and the exposures.
    5. You activate the pump and start applying water within the first minute of arrival, fogging the area between the houses and then concentrate on the main fire location.
    6. One Booster line then takes over to continue fogging the exposure while 1-3/4" lines are pulled to surgically extinguish the remaining burning material.
    1:50 Perfect access to a burning room through the window and the clown is taking time to get the door open. Go back to the beginning. That room wasn't even close to burning when they had already been there awhile. A little well-placed water would have gone a long way to prevent that.
    3:00 Look at that fire burn and threaten the main house and exposure. Those idiots are worried about venting the roof while they allow that fire to envelop the entire structure? No wonder three houses burned. What would they have done if these were big houses?
    3:50 I, zombie!

      Well for starters your assertion of "every building" is false. That said, most buildings in the city are multi-story and ladders are most often used not for fighting the fire, but for egress and access. In this situation they were still in offensive mode which far more strategic than just dumping water onto a roof. And finally the primary reason they did not dump water from a master stream is that you do not do such when there are firefighters inside the structure, that is how you kill someone. Imagine you are a FF inside a structure filled with toxic smoke, heat, and flame when 500+ GPM at several hundred PSI knocks you across a room and blows your helmet & SCBA off.
      Think about it 😉

    • @JBart3112
      @JBart3112 3 года назад

      We went as far as to make it an automatic checklist task for dispatch to contact electric/gas utility for response upon declaration of a “working fire”. Even so, it’s going to be awhile before they can get there. We secure utilities at the panel and gas meter, but in the case of dropped lines, you’re going to have to get to work right away with unsecured utilities.

    • @virgilhilts3924
      @virgilhilts3924 2 года назад

      Entirely absurd as the vast majority of structure fires do not result in downed lines. People already throw a fit about their utility rates and adding enough techs to immediately respond to each and every fire needed or not would cost an enormous amount of money. Further, firefighters are already trained on how to disco the gas & electric at the service entrance, so they know how to work safely.

They should not have to wait for the utility company to arrive to disconnect a line fuse or turn a valve. It's my understanding it only takes about five to ten minutes to do that. Whatever union is preventing this is causing lives to be threatened. I know my suggestion is little out of the box for you guys stuck in the past.

      That is an operation referred to as ventilation, where crews cut a hole in the roof to allow smoke and heated gases to escape the structure. That creates better conditions for crews working inside the structure, and since heat is allowed to escape, any victims still inside have a better chance of survival.

    So when they showed that shot of that fire truck then you guys see what was on the front of that it's what they call a water cannon why weren't they using that and where is the electrical company or a gas company person on these fires when there's a fire a house fire there should be a person or persons from the fire or from the electric company and the gas company to go right to one of these fires so they can put out the shut off the gas and shut off the electricity because I've talked to other fire departments and left comments on other fires and they told me that they cannot put shut off the gas or shut off the electricity to these fires well then they should send somebody from the electric company and somebody from gas company out to every one of these fires to do their job if they can't do it because they don't have the money to send these people out there and that's their job then the fireman should be able to do it themselves so these lawmakers need to pass these laws because this is not right how would you like it if that was your house or your kids' house or your mom and dad or your grandparents don't you even care about people or all you do is care about is the taxes the taxes that people pay you to have a nice house to take care of your family but yet other people have to suffer because of the lawmakers

    • @Brian13549
      @Brian13549 3 года назад +3

      The reason the gas and electric company aren't there right away is they have to be called by the fire department then if it's the weekend the utilities company has to call the person that's on call. Plus utilities companies don't have lights and sirens on their vehicles so they have to go with the flow of traffic. Unfortunately it takes time and some fire departments do shut off utilities from the house but anything with utilities poles is upto the power company and anything major with gas is the gas company issue. If wires from the pole are not involved the fire department usually pulls the meter from the house and if no major gas issues are involved the fire department goes to the gas meter and shuts it of there.
