It is sad that there’s barely any opportunity to check the armenian infantry in the campaign because you are against Cataphracts and TKs in every mission
Not really. That was the expected result since champs aren't unique units. Hell, even generic champs would probably defeat the samurai in a total resources battle.
Funny how the matchups against ranged units changes with 30 health. Previously it was "archers counter infantry," but tack on that crazy extra health, and now it's "archers counter infantry with micro." There are some matchups in here that they used to lose hard.
Tbf everyone said the same thing about the Urumi Swordsmen when they dropped after they beat Jags and Samurai in this (very controlled) pitched battle scenario and they turned out fine in terms of balance. As much as they have going for them, it’s still nothing some archers and siege with a bit of micro can’t handle.
I don't want to go "OMG OP NERF" mode outright, but those are some scary units. Even traditional infantry counters seem to have a harder time with them. We'll have to see how they compare in normal gameplay though, this is a late-game tech after all.
@@danielmunsaka2051 Really puts into context how good the Mayan El Dorado which is why I would nerf this tech to 20HP and a second buff or nerf would be for resources on the tech. This is however only in regards to champions which is a part of the Armenians but not the full story.
Power of power creep at times. Then again im not 100% certain this would count as "power creep" (mostly cuz ive played games that suffer that incredibly hard such as warframe) But still, new additions and new civs with their own issue to balance and hash out.
They really are quite strong though. I wouldn't be surprised if they are able to beat paladins with equal resources. They even beat Jaguar Warriors who are technically supposed to be an infantry counter. Armenians against Aztecs is basically a civ win nowadays. Armenian infantry is way stronger than Aztec infantry, Armenians have busted monks who can compete with Aztecs, and now their Champions eat Jaguar Warriors (!!) for breakfast.
Jaguar Warriours CONFIRMED... Useless in every situation, unless of course you have no villes and only a castle! Like even the Kamayuks, they BEAT everything melee... because infantry have such little health the 8 Kams snipe the first enemy unit and move onto the next with them sniping cavalry due to their bonus damage!
Could somebody explain to me to what historical reason the Armenian champions are so immensely powerful? Were medieval Armenians supposed to do a lot of weightlifting like strongmen or something? I can't refer to anything.
Well some of the varangian guard were trained from cilician armenia and from the caucasus. But historically, Armenian infantry were never that good. The Roman's under Pompeii believed that the Armenian heavy cavalry were amongst the best they had seen, in armor and skill. If they made Armenians historically accurate, they would have been the defensive cavalry civ and Georgians would have been the defensive infantry civ, as they had the best infantry in the region.
@@NaregChakhbasian That's exactly what im talking about: Armenian infantry in the game are way too powerful. I don't want to insult these poor people, in fact i love Armenians. But there isn't any kind of historical record for their infantry to be powerful. Vikings and Greeks on the other hand and not just because iam Greek, were very well known for their physical fitness and power. Hence the reason Viking champions are so strong.
@greekwarrior5373 I agree with you, and don't worry, I'm Armenian but that is not offensive. It's true, our cavalry were feared by even the Sassanid Persians, who would even give Roman tagmata a scare. I think they didn't know how to make Armenia unique so they made them an infantry civ since Georgians are already cavalry. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is. At least Armenians get composite bowman, that unit is at least accurate. Armenian archers were experts in guerilla warfare, it was them that caused general Lucculus' men to mutiny and retreat from Armenia.
@@NaregChakhbasian Yes i like the Armenian civ very much my friend. Atleast they have very cool bowmen and infantry to cut the ByzantineGreeks 😜, and the Turks apart. I really liked the Thoros campaign.
I feel like Armenians should probably loose Gambeson. 100 HP and 6 Pierce Armor on Champions feels a bit too broken at the moment, And unlike Dravidians, Armenian cavalry is not even that bad, while also having nice eco boost from churches.
@@skipper472 ohhhh, yeahhh, my bad. For some reason i swapped Mule Cart techs being more effective with churches giving eco boost. Seemed kind of fitting, given you have fortified churches already. Even so, you get better wood and gold collection, so you can either send more villagers to farming, or get more wood/gold quicker than most civs. Combined with Mule Carts following your woodline, i suspect you get one of the best wood collection rates in the game, while also saving on refresheing camps.
@@NaregChakhbasian Their Militia line would still be among the tankiest in the game with HP alone. Depending on a you'll be doing between 2-5 damage per crossbow/arb arrow to them, so at best it takes 20 arrows, and at worst 50, with most archer-focused civs needing 25. Also, out of the traditional infantry civs, Armenians are the only ones with archer unique unit, and one that ignores armor at that. Idk, i guess we'll see some balance changes next update anyway.
