This is why People Don't Believe in God

  • People who deny that God exists may give several reasons for their unbelief. For example, they may say they reject God because they can’t understand why He doesn’t do something about all the evil in the world. Or they may say they’re turned off by the hypocrisy of Christians they’ve known.
But the real reason most deny God’s existence can be summarized in one word: pride. They want to run their own lives, and they don’t want anyone-especially God-to interfere with the way they’re living. They want to be in control of everything they do, and they know that if they were to believe in God, they’d have to change their lifestyle. Instead of living by their own list of what’s right and wrong, they’d have to take seriously God’s moral standards.
To live without God, however, is to live without hope-hope for His presence with us right now, and hope for eternity. Instead of knowing that God has put us here for a purpose, they end up living without any ultimate meaning in life. No wonder the Psalmist declared, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’ ” (Psalm 14:1).

Thanks for the video, you seem like a very nice and sincere guy. I used to be a believer, until I graduated with a degree in evolutionary biology from Harvard .I like what you're saying, and your message is very positive. I still believe in a lot of the kind words of Jesus, and I'm so glad for his legacy of love. Forr me, an agnostics, it's not just about the five senses. It's also just the inconsistencies in the New Testament, the problem of evil in the world given a just God (I don't find the counter arguments compelling), lack of evidence for free will, the evidence for evolution by natural selection, lack of evidence that God interceeds in prayers, and the prevalence of many different people, each from different sects and religions, claiming that God has each told them different things. I think our creativity as beings did evolve by natural selection, through the formation of our neocortex. My model and map of the world doen'st necessitate the intercession of a higher power. Sure there are things that science still can't explain, but I've seen time and time again that the scientific process is able to help us avoid our own confirmation bias. The reason I belive in things like the theory of evolution but not a higher power is because of things like carbon dating, baysian reasoning, the fossil record, and data which all align (is internally consistent) whereas the data that I see to support religion is regularly conflicted and lacks the same level of and feeling of internal consistency. Again, nothing but love, just spreading my case and story about why I am not sure God exists and I don't think it's honest to say that we know he/she/it does.
