I once had a conversation with a Muslim who accused an ex-muslim of being a wannabe victim and islamphobe. I explained that he had death threats and had to leave his country and what he thought about that. The muslim replied that it is right that ex-muslims are killed because Allah commands it and he cannot go against Allah. My point is that many Muslims just want people to shut up talking about these issues that make Islam look bad rather address the issue. God willing it, is not an answer.
It is sad really, the problem is most Muslim follow hadith written 200 years later rather than the Qur'an alone, I mean the hadith have some very extremist stuff in there whilst the Qur'an teaches the complete opposite

I heard similar from other Muslims. They call people who leave and criticize Islam traitors, and compare them to people who betray their country (like war traitors) who also get the death penalty in some Western countries, so it all makes sense to them.
Not really (out of context). There are many very clear and simple instructions about how to treat non-believers. Remember that the Quran is supposed to be eternal, pre-existing the universe, so the often-used Muslim excuse of "historical context" for example doesn't make any sense. And, there is no indication of that in the text itself (the hadiths can of course give historical context to the revelations, but that just shows that the Quran is a man-made text for the occasion, and that the final revelations (which abrogate the earlier ones) are supposed to be binding for all time (but that again makes little sense if the book is eternal).@@amigos2841
I went to jumuah last week and the whole khutbah was about how we shouldn't question allah or momo. He quoted a hadith where a man was sitting in the presence of momo having a meal but eating with his left hand. Momo told him to eat with his his right hand to which the man replied "I can't". Momo then said "May it be that you are never able to eat with your right hand again" and the man went paralyzed in his right hand for the rest of his life. Tried to look for the hadith to no avail but the way people were listening to this dude and absorbing his nonsense khutbah was really telling.

So it's not much of a logical inference to get that not obeying your husband is a sin that can inevitably mean go will torture you eternally according to Islamic scripture if you reach some threshold point.

Have you not read the report that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) strictly condemned the beating of women, and would even declare a man a kafir if he persisted in abuse of his wife? You can read scholarly opinions from mainstream orthodox sunni Islam for the last 1400 years who all condone wife-beating explicitly stating the quran and hadith state this, as do many parts of the world today, with Qatar coming out with a video on how to do it, the Taliban quoting scripture and Imams today all over the world supporting it. Are you telling me everyone has read the verse wrong for the last 1000+ years and only now you understand it? Including Al-Tabari, Ibn Kathri, Al-Jalalayn, the best of all?
There is absolutely nothing about doing it lightly in the Quran or on a specific part of the body - which is the supposed perfect word of God. The hadith, which are always a contradictory mess say:
Sahih Muslim Book4 2137 Aisha says 'Yes. He struck me on the chest which caused me pain'.
Sahih Muslim 7:2803 you can beat them, but not severly.
Sunan Abu Dawad 11:2141 has Muhammad giving men including Umar permission to beat their wives.
Sunan Ibn Majad 3:9:1986 A man should not be asked why he beats his wife.
Sahih Bukhari 8:73:68 You should beat your wife like a horse or slave.

Verse 4:34 says men are in charge of women, because they excel them. And they can deal with disobedience by beating/hitting/striking them. Would you like me to quote you the Hadith that confirm Muhammad folly approved of beating women?.
2:228 says men are above women.
2:222 says for men to stay away from women who are on their period as it is a sickness.
2:282 says the testimony of a woman is worth half of a man's.
4:11 says women get half the inheritance of a man.
2:223 says you make take your wife whenever and however you please (nothing of course is mentioned about the wife's consent)
Qur'an 17:40, 43:15-16 and 37:149-156 actually mocks the idea that God would take a daughter as a partner over sons.
Qur'an 70:29-30 says you can have s*x with your wives and FEMALE SLAVES
4:3 women can only marry one person while man can marry up to four, and have sex with as many female slaves as they desire - and you should take a female slave if you can't deal justly with your wife.
There is absolutely no such thing as sexual assault (zina) in Islamic law against wives or slaves either...
44:51-54, 55:56-58, 78:31-35 Men get light skinned virgins with big breasts in heaven, while women get nothing like that (I assume they just sit there while their husbands f**k them)
60:10 Muslim men can get married to Christians and Jews while Muslim women can only marry Muslim men (2:221)
24:31 Women wear a headscarf while men have no such requirement
64:5 explicitly gives the rules around child marriage 👍 Nice..
It is significantly easier for a husband to divorce his wife than vice versa where the wife has to ask permission and go through a waiting period.

Islam has legislation for punishment against stealing, for misappropriating war booty, for insulting prophet and his companions, But for domestic abuse all it has time for is prayers.

Thanks for posting this. And it is not mentioned what that prayer did. The "just pray" or "turn it over to a deity or universe" response by the religious and spiritual as always felt unsatisfying to me (maddening actually) and I now recognize this as an attempt to regulate and deal with the anxiety a person is feeling. Better for you and for others to use tools of psychology as they are not burdened with the constraints of religion.
And as you mention FExM, other alternatives Mohammad could have taken are not mentioned or explored. He can deal harshly with those who anger or insult what he values, or receive messages from a deity to directly intervene in his favor, or prohibit alcohol but he does nothing outside of dua for a woman being hit, after issuing protective statements. It comes off as quite pitiful and Mohammad comes across as a very limited man who is not able to leverage his connection to a deity to help someone, because that connection is fabricated and he has no real power.
I “just prayed” and ended up an atheist. Because instead of blindly following I just did my research and realize I can't defend this be anymore.

I know little about Islam but from an outside perspective this video seems to be a very disingenuous reading of the piece of islamic text. Sort of approach I would expect from fundamentalists. For example it's obvious what is meant by the piece of garment.

Muhammad's behaviour in this particular narration (I don't know where Omar Suleiman got it from) is reminiscent of what is narrated about Muhammad's behaviour towards the divorced wife of Rifa'a as narrated in Sahih Bukhari 5825 (Another isnaad, this time going back to Ibn Abbas instead of just Ikrimah narrating on the authority of Aisha is mentioned by Al Albani in Irwa Al Ghalil 6/299 and Ibn Taymiyyah in Fatawaa Al Kubra 6/303, though it seems to be a weak isnaad) and also the wives that came around to him to complain about their abusive husbands in Sunan Abu Dawud 2146(Sahih by Al Albani).

It actually made perfect sense. For some reason you keeping ignoring the fact she wouldnt reveal her identity. Hes not going to force her to say who she is or who her husband is. Clearly she is protecting her abuser. By her not revealing her identity doesnt leave the prophet many options. Lastly, who better for a protector than Allah swt?
In cases like this when there's violence or abuse a therapist would be obligated to take action. In this case the prophet failed her.
