Glad you mentioned the maintenance on these machine. A good lesson for ppl wanting a real machine vs an easy to maintain arcade 1up
Yeah, its a lot of work for some of them. The racing cabs seem to give me the most trouble. Probably because there's more stuff in them.
Absolutely felt the same way with the game
First thing on my bucket list when I actually had a job as a young dude is to buy my own KI cabinet since I never won the one from Nintendo Power. This was 2001. It took three of us to lug this 400lb beast upstairs to my bedroom. Watching this reminds me of those memories. I ended up selling it and I can only imagine what it would be worth today.
I very much appreciate this video Chris. To me, the "how" and "what" is as important as the game itself!
I'm happy to hear it!
I enjoy everything about your killer Instinct videos . I've played since the beginning.. I know so much about this game . But still need to know more.. love it !!!!!!
Glad to hear it! I'm sure plenty more of the KI videos will come soon.
Yeah, making a living working at the arcade would've been great, but only as the operator. Not to mention all the closing of arcades, it was short-lived dream job. Personally, I stuck to game development. Job security isn't the best, but videogames are still being made to this day! lol
Development is the safer bet for sure. I would love to open an arcade one day but that's unrealistic currently.
Thanks for sharing this! I have learned so much from your channel!
I'm glad you found it helpful! I just recorded my Hydro Thunder cabinet video. I'll have it out in a week or two.
I remember purchasing my grail SF2 as my first machine and being shocked when I looked inside, only to find an empty box with monitor, gameboard and a bunch of stuff like the ISO transformer that I had no clue what it did. Was so afraid to touch anything to. Funny enough, I sold all my games 7 years ago and the only that stayed was my SF2. I told my wife to save on a coffin and use the cabinet when it's time to go lol. As always enjoyed the content Chris, with the exception of that shity Polo monitor lol.
That's genius! Arcade Cab Coffins. The best one I'd thought of was to have headstones shaped like a SNES cartridges with the person's name as the Game Title and graphics depicting whatever cool things they did in life.
Hahaha! Maybe I'll be buried in this KI then! It seems not a lot of people are a fan of that monitor. It looks so good, I hope its not going to become a pain.
@@KillerArcadeGames two words: Wells K7000 lol
Enjoyed this video immensely. Thank you for making it! I look forward to seeing the inners of the other cabinets as well. BTW, you never did explain what the hard drive was used for.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The hard drive, as far as I know, stores graphics and the full motion video files. I'm sure there's more to it though.
Pretty cool, I’ve always wanted one. I wish Arcade 1up designed cabs around a screen that size, with all the space doesn’t seem all that difficult. Especially since the average TV in home now starts at around 55 inches I think a 20 inch screen with a thinner bezel similar the original should be standard. Larger deck would be nice too and obviously it’s possible considering the 4 player decks. It can still be a 3/4 scale cabinet. Great videos 👍
Nice video. Yeah, I had the same thought the first time I saw an arcade's insides. Although I will say, my VirtuaRacing cab is the absolute opposite. You think it's a PCB and a monitor and you end up finding boards EVERYWHERE. The nice thing about these cabs though is that there's room for more boards. I'd rather have dedicated cabs for everything one day but I have an MKII cab, but inside I have MK, MKII, MK3, UMK3 & MK4 mounted inside. That's about the max, but still it's really cool. You just have to swap kick harnesses each time.
Lastly, I do the same with the quarters. "I got next" at the end was great, exactly! Right there with you. I have a quarter from each year I played arcades running up to '99 or '00 whenever it started to die off. Side note though, you don't have to take them off. They actually sit on a ledge that's not attached the to control panel. So, you can leave them and freely open the panel no problem.
Racing cabs seem to be full of stuff compared to these fighting games. That MK cab sounds amazing! At least you can always just find old Midway cabs and put the PCBs in them. My panel has that metal piece attached to it so the quarters would fall off. Your panel doesn't have that metal lip on attached to it?
@@KillerArcadeGames It has the same metal piece, but notice that there are 2 metal pieces, 1 is attached to the control deck, and that makes contact with another metal strip that's part of the cabinet. Take a close look at 3:46 to 3:56 and you'll see that the quarters are on the stationary strip, not the metal of the controls.
I love seeing the insides of these cabinets. I can look and talk about them all day lol great video as always chris! 🤘
Its fun to nerd out about these lol. I love seeing how they work.
Just picked up my first og cabs (KI & MK2). Thanks Kris D!
What’s inside? Parts that soon need replaced that are very difficult to get. Tons of dust and dirt.
Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Petition for man shed Cade
I've submitted it to my HOA...I hope they approve it.
Chris nice video👌 my arcade1up Killer Instinct was just delivered by UPS today! I'm going to be looking to play you in some online matches as soon as I get my skills backup haven't played the game since 98 lol.🤤
Awesome! Everyone takes a little while to get back into their skills. I'll see you online!
@@KillerArcadeGames awesome lol.🤤
I had a friend in elementary school that had a few old arcade cabinets and he always hid in one when we played hide and seek. I was not aloud to how ever.
Hahah I would be very nervous to have some kid climb into this cab. If they ruined the PCB I'd be devastated.
@@KillerArcadeGames oh no the one he hid was an empty pack man machine that had been parted out. it was basically just an empty cabinet.
Hi man, thanks for the video, just one quick question, what's the speaker's diameter size?
Cool video. Are you going to lose all of your credit and playtime data when you do the flash kit?
Thats a good question! I don't think so. That seems to be stored somewhere else on the PCB. But, when the coin battery goes out on the PCB, it will likely lose all of that info. The cabinet is off a lot more than it's on so that battery probably won't last as long as it would in an arcade setting.
The sound was amazing on the killer instinct arcade unit. What speakers did it have? Do you think maybe the reason for the unit being so big was to give it a low bass sound?
I do think the cabinet design helps a lot with the bass. I just recently got a Killer Instinct 2 cabinet, it needed new speakers so I got a pair of the same size. They were 5.25 inch, 60 watt speakers. I don't think the original speakers had any brand markings on them though. The speakers I got as a replacement aren't as good as the originals unfortunately.
I was wondering which arcade machines are you looking to get in the future
Good question! I really don't have anything that I'm dying to have at the moment. I would like to own a Rush 2049 cabinet. I never cared much for the game when it was in arcades but I grew to love it on MAME. It would be fun to have the real cabinet. Beyond that, I'd entertain buying a real version of the A1U cabs I've made to replace those. I wouldn't mind having a Target Terror cab one day either. Its another game I missed out on in the arcades but am interested to play. I doubt I'd keep it forever but playing it for a while and then selling it would be cool.
Intersting about the service credit I didn’t know there was that as well as regular but it makes sense I used to go to arcades before they opened on the weekend and sometimes the worker would be in there fixing the machine then he would coin me up a bunch of free games before leaving so that’s what he used. Btw I accidentally hit dislike going to hit like hope it didn’t keep it on there lol
Even though the service credit thing existed in my arcade, employees always just hit the little metal wire that detects the coins going through lol. They didn't care if it threw the numbers off. What a nice employee! I was and still am the master at finding free games in arcades. My wife always laughs because I can spot them from a mile away. Especially now that they give kids what looks like a credit card, they walk around swiping like crazy not realizing it worked and leave credits in games haha. Don't worry about the dislike, its not there!
Where are the speakers installed on the original cabinet? I was expecting below marquee, but I can't see any.
Yes, sorry, I forgot to show that. Theres two speakers behind that grill under the marquee.
@@KillerArcadeGames Oh, you've done enough. It's just that most don't give it to much attention. I'm asking cause I'm building one bartop from scratch, using what I got around and am considering installing sound just below marquee, only don't know if it is a norm.
COMING IN 1995 TO NINTENDO ULTRA 64
did you cut your coin door to put that button in? what i did on mine was put the switch on the back of the coin reject mechanism so i just press the coin reject to insert coin
I just removed the panel on the coin door that's there if you want to add a dollar bill acceptor. I didn't want to damage the stock door lol.
How hard was it to get the killer instinct arcade cabinet? And how hard is it to play the arcade version of killer instinct on an emulator or something? I love this game as much as you do and wish I could play the original Arcade version of this game more often than the times I visit my local arcade bar lol.
I got lucky when buying this cabinet. A subscriber of my channel reached out and wanted to sell his to someone who would appreciate it. He also happened to live about 3 hours from me so we coordinated a day for me to go get it, I hired movers to get it out of the house without damaging it or his house and that was it! I looked for one for probably a year or more. None were close to me, if they were the price was NUTS! Before this one was offered to me, I was talking with Retro Ralph about either driving to Phoenix to buy one he had or having it shipped to me for $500. This came along and worked out much better for me. Emulating the game isn't that difficult now days. I'd recommend using a PC with at least a 2.3ghz dual core processor, 2gb of ram or more and use MAME .139 32 bit. Newer versions have audio imperfections, from what I found.
Whats on the HDD? what if u swap it out with a ssd?
The HDD, as far as I know, stores graphics and the video files. It can be swapped for a flash drive. I already bought one and tested it. Its just a small compact flash card that plugs into the PCB. The game actually loads faster with the card installed. Its not a huge difference but there is a difference.
Good job one day I will have my own arcade ok
If you look on Facebook Marketplace, you'll find some cheap ones every now and then.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
