I've been using Discord since 2015. Watching it slowly devolve into chaos to the point I can't join new servers out of anxiety of interacting with freaks is horrible. Especially as a teenager who deals with mental health issues myself. It's difficult to drop Discord, *everyone* is using it, but I'm mostly just keeping to myself and my friends on the platform from now on.
That's the way I've been using it for years now. Sort of like: In no way is it social media, it's just a messaging app. The fact that Discord keeps pushing it towards being the average kind of social media despite not at all being built for that is... Strange.

ive been using discord since 2019 and honestly i don't think its a safe platform for anyone to be on especially minors. i started using it at a very young age and ended up being doxxed bullied and harrassed by a group of people for 3 years. its so nice seeing people finally speak up about the terrible things that happen on the platform.

I am 15 and have had Discord since 2018. Within the last 4 months, I’ve gone through two situations. One was a kid spreading a video of some shit that I’m not going to go into, but it all boils down to the fact that he blamed it on me. That situation got me pulled out of school my freshman year, which is beyond fucked. The other situation was where someone had feelings for me, and I told them that I was already with someone. This person, went to my partner and said that they wanted to date them. That caused my partner to freak out cause they already have mental issues of their own. I almost lost this relationship because of this person. Thank you for coming forth with your experiences, cause it’s really not easy to do that.

It's very understandable why you would leave discord. I use discord on and off since way too young, and after seeing the absolute degeneracy of the platform it makes sense why many users are very understably leaving the platform. There's one thing I always hated about discord that was the phone info issue that always messed up and how you can't change it and claims that you've used another account before that error is so stupid and annoying I hate it and just gave up on trying to make a solid account on there...

Hi, i dont usually comment on youtube so i apologise if what im saying isnt super understandable as my thoughts are a little scrambled at the moment, but i feel like so many of us have gone through similar things to what you talk about in this video, which is genuinely disheartening. I am currently 17 almost 18, and i first started using discord when i had about just turned 13. I too have had to go to therapy and am currently on medication as a byproduct of being on discord. Unfortunately it seems a lot of people here in the comments section have gone through these things as well, what's worse is that the issue with creeps and such on discord is so well known to the point its almost a joke, yet discord does nothing about it. Howdy 24 year old here hitting to 25 years old. I believe a guy like me in my close 30s should never do a manhunt on there past mistake and forgive and forget your friends. I know certain discord server places can be toxic and had to leave. But there safe places out there to feel safe and make new friends. Never I want some young kid to be manipulated or even worse stuff like bully should happen. I wish you the best and your not alone about this situation and should be heard.

Ngl Discord has a goofy amount of bs on it Once was in a public voice channel and some 14 year old girl started doxxing her X online bf and showing how she knew where he lives, where he went to school, and where his grandparents live and then proceeded to brag about how she sent him 14 emails all from different accounts all saying how he could never get rid of her Wasn't the same after that one
You know that taking out of context stuff sucks you know like that is tough and is annoying NGL but hey when you're young asf mistakes happen, you will mess up over again and again so it's normal it's just important that when you do make mistakes hopefully the ones you did that too can forgive you or talk it out to solve it but if not then forget it or about them because that sucks and is just unfortunate or some people can't change or just don't trust folks anymore... Some stay the same way as they get older like reddit/twitter users but that is what it is :P but yeah thanks for sharing.

I've lived my life on Discord and don't feel like there's anywhere else I could move to since I've found my friends and communities there, but if anyone quits it I'll always understand it. Discord is a hell site for sure no one can deny that. Just depends on how much you use it.

omg! i have revolt too and i've only had it for maybe one or two months and it's been great so far, plus i got my discord token away from me which made me and some of my friends upset but.... i think revolt is better then discord overall and it feels more comfortable to be in and i'm still waiting for the ios ver to come out. But other then that i hope you feel much better and recover from all that even though it was years ago, and i've had my fair share of experiances, but i really love this video and what you do!

I feel like this just depends on what you do on discord, if you don't join many servers and not interact with people you don't know that much then you probably won't experience bad things on it
this is true, its just a shame that discord's main purpose is to bring communities & people together whilst many are afraid of partaking in communities because of potential negative experiences that come with it,, i also find that it can be a very "wrong place, wrong time" scenario Overall though, I went into that discord server at 16 years old because I wanted to talk to other people who watched a youtuber i liked, not a 30 year old man who would give me irreversible mental health issues.

That is true. A huge reason why we had such few mods in the discord was because I'm super picky with my trust specifically when it comes to who is doing things for the right reasons or for power exertion,, way too many horror stories

Honestly Ive been wanting to quit Discord for a while. Even though unlike this youtuber ive only been on discord since 2021. This past year Discord has been taking up like way more of my time. I keep deleting it but I some how keep downloading it. I have deleted almost all of my online friends which I used to talk to every day made me realize I'm not as important in their life than they were in mine. I came across some disgusting people on here but 99% of the people I've met weren't bad or gross. I've only kept a few online friends because they generally have cared for me. I'm not saying I've been through a traumatic experience on here I'm only saying that Discord has been taking too much time in my life. If anybody here thinks to download discord please don't. Also, Nitro is absolutely a scam If you do buy Nitro buy Classic since the emotes are literally the only reason why Nitro is even worth it. After I am able to get my new username I plan on quitting Discord for good. I don't need it anymore I just wanna move on with my life and if my friends truly ever cared they can just add me on anything else.
totally agree and its very very telling that we have a similar outlook despite being on discord for very different amounts of time,, i found my biggest struggle was also leaving behind some friends because they didn't do anything but it's also just,, it's hard cuz since there aren't a ton of options besides Discord that people would be willing to use instead so it leaves many ppl feeling trapped almost,, and yeah fuck nitro LOL
weirdly enough, i think some of the worst shit i saw on discord was in servers my friends (at that time) were running like i think everyone just got too comfortable and then boom, transphobia, doxxing, and "peace out" notes (nobody actually "did" tho) i was a minor when it was at its worst too lol that probably affected me longterm :> (also the username update. nobody asked for that. it serves zero purpose like why. im ngl i just put my discriminator at the end of my username lmao screw that)
