I lost my girlfriend to a car accident in 1976. We would listen to this song and both sing in the car . We would park high up on the mountain on the side of the road over looking Santa Rosa California and talk all night until the sun came up . I can’t get through this song without crying. I often remember how beautiful and remote California was in those days.

    As per Gary Wright…
'Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night...' was a song about someone with infinite compassion and love carrying us through the night of our trials and suffering. None other than God Himself."

I seriously doubt it's being played in heaven, because God and Rock are enemies. God and CHRISTIAN ROCK are even MORE enemies. But... I grew up with this song, too, and for the time we're here on this earth, there are some beautiful things thst don't belong to God, that we are blessed to enjoy. This song is one of those. Enjoy it now, because once we're crossed to the other side, you'll never hear it again. It's a product of time, not eternity.

In 1977, I went out on my boat off the coast of the Florida keys for nice fishing trip. The engine failed and I was adrift for 6 days......the longest and scariest 6 days I ever experienced, specially the nights. This was the song that for some reason, I kept playing over and over till the batteries died, just 2 days before I was rescued by the Coast Guard. A horrifying experience to say the least.
A few months later, my son, who was a musician, played at a local school for charity, he asked me to come see the performance and that he had a front row seat for me. I accepted, I always loved his music, he and his talented band had always performed beautifully. After playing a few songs, my son announces he has one last special song. There was silence for a few seconds, and then, familiar sounds emerge from the stage along with familiar images projected on a screen behind the band, images of my son and I during his childhood. As the music became intense, I realized he was playing "Dream Weaver". I listen and watched in tears as he sung, in absolute perfection. It was the most beautiful and emotional experience I have ever had, till date. On the very last image, as the song was coming to the end, it was a picture of him hugging me, in tears, when I arrive at the Coast Guard base during my rescue. On that image, words were superimposed, "Dad, you were never alone, I was your dream weaver"
I cant begin or know how to explain what this song means to me.

People always talk about this amazing song and Love is Alive, but I just loved the whole Light of Smiles album even though it never spawned a hit single. I was a teenager of 15 when this song came out. So many great songs singers, writers and bands during that era. It truly breaks my heart for the kids of today that they won't experience for the first time what the 1970's music did for us all back then. I was just watching the story of how 10cc created the song; I'm Not In Love. They had to mix 16 different vocal tracks, and it took them 3 days to get what they were looking for. It was something that had never been done before, and because the four of them were such great writers individually, after they released the song they split up. It was like a mountain peak that you'll never be fit enough to climb again.
In my opinion Dream Weaver was just as good, and just as superbly unique. It was an act of genius on Gary Wright's part. We owe ALL the greats of that decade a debt of gratitude.

This song encapsulates for me my last years growing up in Tehran, Iran (yes, that Iran!), in the late 70s. I would "borrow" my dad's shortwave radio and sneak up to the roof of our house on those hot summer nights. There, most all roofs are flat giving a great view of the night sky. I would lay on my sleeping bag with the radio as my dreamweaver train, slowly scanning frequencies from around the world while gazing deep into the starry sky. I recall coming across this song frequently and would always pause to listen to whole song. While tracking a satellite slowly drifting across the night sky, or catching a fleeting shooting star, my mind would weave dreams of magnificent things and I knew then that my heart was on fire, my soul was like a wheel turning and my love was alive.

When I was a kid, way, way back when tv stations actually went off the air overnight (anyone else remember that?), we had a local station in the midwest, that signed off with this song on Friday nights, which was actually during the wee hours of Saturday mornings. I felt like I was the only one still awake on Earth, except for the guy who played this song. The world, I think, was a better place when tv stations signed off overnight.

That's right! Once the 70's were over, no one ever had access to that music again, we were born too late to hear it, it's all gone and only lives in the memories of those who were alive back then. You lucky bugs.

I remember hearing this song for the first time as a kid In the 90s. We was homeless when I was 8 and I'd listen to this song every night for months and It brought me great comfort even though I had no Idea what It was about. Now as a 35 year old man I understand exactly what he's saying and It still brings me comfort. Such a great song.

I was born in 86, but I swear I should have been born in the 60’s. The best music that hits home is 70’s and 80’s rock and classics like this. Along with those eras movies!
