  • Hello and welcome to the channel. This video is going to be about me testing three sets of 1:16 scale RC tyre's back to back on my WPL C14 truck. Which are the best tyre's to use off road?

uh oh here I go... the RTR tires are actually a nice rubber but kinda hard, gave a set the lug clipping treatment (delete the 3 dots down the centers and nip the corresponding corner lugs) then sprayed wet with WD-40 in a ziplock bag for 12 hours, squishing through the bag a couple minutes every couple hours. they DO swell up a bit and become softer, dry off the WD-40 and mount with Elmer's rubber cement. they do better on wet stuff than the softer kit tires that contain more silicone that gets slippery when wet.
the wheel weight thing, do it with 2 mm solder, not that BIG stuff... stock rims you can wrap 3 turns (use a small flat screwdriver to make the step-over's tight), then step up for 3 more wraps, then step up again for 3 more, 9 turns total. slice electrical tape slightly wider and stretch wrap it tight (it'll narrow some) two wraps, with a smear of CA glue to the end of the wrap so it'll stay put. the stretched tape keeps it compressed tight against the rim/hub. with the Fayee rims its 1 row across 8 turns for C-14, 2 layers for MN-D90 , full width electric tape.
I only weight the front pairs, when climbing weight dumps back to the rear tires anyway, its about keeping the fronts down to help pull itself up, and able to steer when climbing steep.
definitely order M3 half threaded 50 mm length cap screws for modifying stock shocks, 4.5 mm longer rods allows a lot more flex and sits about 2.5 mm taller, excellent for running the Fayee rims+tires on the C-14. a little cutting+grinding+polishing but great cheap upgrade.
(stock rods are M4 size, give 1-3/8" of 1 wheel lift at best, new ones will give 1-3/4")
stock rims... hobby saw (even hacksaw) the whole inner tire bead from spare rims, sand mating surfaces flat, CA them to the outsides of another set for new "stock deep dish" rims.
tires stay on better, sidewalls are closer to vertical puts a little force to make the corner lugs get more bite. only gains about 3/16 total width outside to outside tire corners, recommend it more for the C-24 where the Fayee rims+tires look too "monster truck" for my liking.
haven't had a set of chevron+dot pattern truck tires yet, they do kinda show the point, less surface area (on the dots) = higher PSI tire to earth contact. the dots are kinda round, where I more prefer the hard cornered lugs of the old style tread, after the clipping treatment.

Hahaha I'm sure your replies are getting longer! Always welcome though! I did use your name in vain though at the end of the video when I mentioned the solder hack you bought to my attention. Thanks for all the comments and info I'm going to look into the shock mod you mentioned! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😄

@@theminiatureconstructionco4556 its only 3-4 bucks for 10 of those cap screws is enough to do 2 C-frame trucks. dollar store sticky back foam, make 4 disc's with a paper punch, give each a center hole to slide onto the shaft. drag a pin head drop of CA around underside of the cap screw and quickly press the disc flat against it with back edge of a hobby knife blade. let dry then wet the 2 mm foam sheet disc with a drop of oil and assemble the shock, gives NICE friction damping for about nothing. don't bother doing with the stock rods, they're really near too short to begin with. you'll notice when you slap the front or rear of the truck down, the recoil is quick, but it doesn't bounce at the top.. then, lift it and see you still have 2-3 mm before wheels leave the table, its not for being against the foam disc as a cushion/bumper when there is still a little negative travel to go. other thing going on is the shorter stock rods are M4 diameter, the M3 rods let it have a little extra slop out the bottoms of the shock bodies, they travel smoother/easier when extending than the stock M4 diameter... you do have to CA the bottom eyelets and threads, they'll un-thread after drying, so no problem created there for using CA to make them tighter joined. it was just an idea I tried about a year ago (was a fail with longer Tamiya screws btw!), that really does the job NICE. the paper punched foam friction discs were added to them couple months ago when adapting A285004 shocks to the C-14 and C-24, when the modded stock shocks on the C-24 got moved over to the NewBright Jeep bodied C-frame. adapting those A285004 oil filled shocks to the WPL gets a little more complicated, was luck that my local hardware store had suitable springs to modify.
the longer rods and friction discs slightly increased ride height (a little more preload on the coil springs, the hex caps are a bit thicker) also help to keep tires from scrubbing up into the wheel wells as hard and as often, why I mention it being nicer with the Fayee rims+tires larger diameter where they'd always bump into the front of the front wheel well the most, when flexing and turning same time.... bwahaha wearing myself out typing these LONG descriptions, could have whipped up another set in the same amount of time!
if your local hardware store doesn't have those LONG 50 mm M3 half threaded cap screws, its waiting on the slow boat from China for them to arrive and play with. waited like that for the Tamiya screws to be a fail.. then waited again for success to arrive, now everyone knows what to grab ;)

I'm a b36 v2 tire fan, I like em rtr hard so they dont slip of the rim, being mainly on the trail they are perfect. Recently grown to love the c34 v3 tire combined with wheel weights and custom foams they are great trailers also!
Amazing vid as always! Pushing that c14 hard and it's holding up good!

So far so good! I had a few initial problems with them coming off the rims but since glueing both sides they've been golden. The RTR tyres were surprisingly good with weights. 👍😄

This video popped up on my youtube homepage and I am very happy it did. This is a great review and you have an excellent channel. Thought the Fayee tires would have been superior but the kit tires seemed to be the best! I agree they all did ok in challenging conditions. Will certainly be watching more. I love my C-14, building my son one who RCs and makes vids with me. Thanks for the review!

I do like the 'russian' style kit tyres, people say they are to soft but I don't see it. Just make sure that they are glued on properly and you don't have a problem. Welcome aboard by the way! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you very much! Yes kit tyres for the win, how ever those Fayee ones take some beating. They just sit a bit close to the arch's with standard suspension. They are almost as soft too! 😄👍

I've tried using fayee tires nd wheels on my rtr stock c24 (exept for esc, tx, motor and drive shaft), they look good on it.. the only thing is they rub on full turns.. will this damage anything on my rc if I continue using such and ignore the rub part,? Thanks

Hello. Not much in the chassis department, the MN is slightly longer. The real difference is in the shell's. The MN obviously is a larger scale. Hope this helps? 👍👍
