@SM Piper, I do agree, no they invented plain cigarette packages in England @ Ireland and Norway, and here in Finland all smokes are to be out of sight from the general public, only special tobacco shops are exclude
Really enjoy these insights into normalcy while lockdown carries on. Many of us haven’t been able to go into a brick and mortar store for over a year. Very wholesome
The Artful Codger couldn’t believe I got Paul on his last day. Seems like an awesome guy with a lot to talk about on tabacciana. I’ll be contacting him again I hope.
Great day, great vid. Love to see the "gaffer" of the tobacconists puffing on a pipe in the shop...with two figurative fingers up to the nanny state! Nice selecton of poes and tobaccos. Nearest place to us like that might be Cheltenham.
My Old Local so to speak for Chat & Pipe ,Bless Paul , he's a good man , looked after me every time I went in & sue & James & Ford & Paul's Wife too great shop , I'm aware of the take over of Havana House , Great video ,good to to see it again ,as I don't live in "Reading now ,but I have family who can pop in ' get me a few pipe flavours , thanks
That's my local store! Do miss speaking with Paul since he retired, and those stories he's told I've heard before. Did you notice the cigar shaped like a pipe in the humidor? There's a story behind that too!
Well thanks for a great video. More of a documentary and I enjoyed it so much. What an awesome story and a way to get into the trade. Would love to have a tobacco store like this in the neighborhood. And a one in a lifetime timing. Thanks again for sharing
love seeing these old tobacco shops its so hard to get a decent selection of pipe tobacco in republic of ireland i would love to see more that sell different types of cigars and pipe tobacco
Thank You Simon, much appreciated, these document 'broadcastings are always interesting to watch, very broad selection of baccies, there were many of my favorite brands available out there,St Brunos, Erinmore,ODF and on, I even noticed some tins of Dunhill Royal Yacht there,my guess is thse like tobacco stores will never die, especially in England ,despite the fact government would like to see them go,but traditions and heritage what these tobacconist represent are quite steep, did You notice the storekeeper has his pouch of mellow Virginia ,, Best Greets, have a nice start to this very Year of 2019, Paul
Got a great cigar from there for our Christmas party at Maidenhead in 1998 my friend got one the same it was huge and took about three hours to smoke 🤗
@@londoncallingwithsimon6817 I couldn't Simon all I remember was we had a bet who could get the biggest and I got the only one they had only £13 ah those were the days 😊
Havana House in Cardiff (The Bear Shop) is still going. I went and bought my first Peterson there a few weeks ago. My experience was 'okay' Feel like i could have got more out of it. Nice enough, just felt like they could have known their customer better, and sensed my inexperience a little more. Maybe i was expecting too much - I feel like this guy would have guided me through the experience a little better. Proper shops are falling to the conglomerates who like people in and out as quickly as possible.
I have to travel out of town to get anything other than clan or Bruno. Normally I'd smoke Peterson's 3 P's and broken flake no. 7 sometimes I even blend them together. I bought a cheap pack just for a smoke from ASDA this morning it's called sauvage or something like that. One bowl and it's into the future crumble cake pile absolute garbage it was so dry and it also gave me pretty bad indigestion for about an hour. I did get some nice smoke from the tobacconist though to compensate so this month I'm on coniston cut plug, Kendal sliced dark rum, and some Kendal black twist xxx. I've never tried the rum which smells absolutely divine. As I've never smoked a tobacco with toppings what kind of pipe would you recommend? I only have 3 a meerschaum cob, a hardcastles jockey club, and a generic no name cheapo wooden pipe with a pretty big bowl I've just bought.
Wow, I saw dunhill my mixture 965. I just started smoking pipe tobacco a couple of weeks back. On a whim I picked out a sutliff 965 Match, it’s awesome. Have you tried the dunhill version? I’m looking for the original in the USA.
Daniel Shore hi Danny, wish it was local, it’s about 80 minute drive. Not too far but not very near either. Wishing you a strong and serene year ahead. All the best my brother
It probably does in general due to being sold in off licenses and supermarkets. But for those that want piped tobacco, they're best off going to shops such as his. Meaning it's more popular in his shop.
Those tobacco warning labels are a disgrace.
Would love to visit this man’s store. Thanks for the tour
Wow, having my coffee and a pipe in the morning, with some early morning pipe. What a nice chat to listen to. Thanks, Simon.
A nice tobacco shop: everyone helpful & friendly. I used to enjoy their Newbury shop, tucked away down a little alleyway.
That's a great tobacco shop! My goodness...those warning labels are ridiculous. :(
@SM Piper, I do agree, no they invented plain cigarette packages in England @ Ireland and Norway, and here in Finland all smokes are to be out of sight from the general public, only special tobacco shops are exclude

What a tour! I would give anything to have a shop around like that one! Just a brilliant day out!
Great chat. Sounded like the proprietor really enjoyed talking. It's the end of an era for shops like that. Online just isn't the same. Cheers.
GEARY he did enjoy chatting I hope I’ll chat with him again.
Those stickers! Can't imagine tobacco shops existing 10 years from now.

Uncle Phil's Cellar what’s the worst that can happen...they say no. This video would be nothing without Paul’s awesome commentary
