Please let's avoid using the ending -s in Simple Present. It is getting old-fashioned. We don't need to use it in singular verb forms because -s is first of all an indicator of PLURAL for substantives (book - books, house - houses etc.) That's why "this deserves" sound illogically. He/she/it is ONE person/subject, that's why he/she/it don't need -s. We should say "this deserve" like we do it for other verb forms (I deserve, you deserve etc.) as well as in Simple Past - all verb forms are the same for each person (I deserved, you deserved, he DESERVED etc.) It make the system clear and well balanced. Foreigners often don't use this ending, it seem to be excess and redundant to them.
