I worked on the southern Atolls in my early 20's... 1997. The neighbour Island had a point identical to this I thick it was called Ari Ado. I had to borrow a Mini mal from a Brit because I had no board with me as I was working and we were building SUN island swimming pool and rock feature. But i got in a few dream sessions. On a dropping low there were some finger like corals that would poke out as you heading down the line.....Zoinks! I recently google earthed the Island and was blown away to a see a Mini Airport and runway were my break once was. And an huge bridge from the Airport to the Capital. Anyway....Love this video...brought back memories and smells...AWE!
And then comes the post Maldives depression. trying to motivate yourself to wear a wetty again, handle the crowds....and the surf is just rubbish compared to where you had it all to yourself. I don't know if it is the clearest of warmest waters, healthy vegie curry diet or just knowing every day you are going to get the best waves. Then bam!! Back to reality of east coast surfing. Great video. I've been back for a few months now and I still feel flat.
This reminds me of the completely solo surf I had at Nusa Dua back in 1972. I went over there in a 3 wheel bemo with my girlfriend. We pulled up to see this 4ft perfect right being ridden by one white guy. I managed to hire this shitbox of a board, grabbed a boat to take us out, and surfed myself stupid for the next 3 hours, even landed on the reef at low tide because I just didn't want to stop. Amazing times.
Nice waves and good surfing! Do you know any guest house on Vaadhoo? I stayed in a guest house on one of the central Islands, the people were so nice and surf was good too, but one hall of a long boat ride to get there
Hey Kale great video! Any chance I can ask you a question, I started about 8 months ago on 8ft foamie but have pretty much maxed out what I can do with it. I tried a 6ft 2 43l hardboard but it felt so much different, should I stick with it or otherwise I was thinking about the 6'8 happy hour softboard in one of your videos. Is 43l on a hardboard feel the same as 43l on a foamie?
Hey mate! For sure. It’s such a tricky part of the surfing experience that most people navigate blindly! So I’ve actually just created a detailed, super informative online course for people to actually independently formulate their own perfect surfboard which they can use as a guide to purchase! I, unfortunately, am spread too thin as it is so can’t really give you any personalised advice without seeing you surf from a coaching perspective - so this is the absolute best advice I can give; jump in the online course ‘The Ultimate Surfboard Buying Guide’, watch all the lectures and use the formula to work out which board is best for you based on your abilities, weight, height and ability level! It’s right here at thesurfersroadmap.com/p/the-ultimate-surfboard-buying-guide Hope this helps mate! Thanks for reaching out :) Kale.
Why is maldives less crowded? It's a tourist spot like bali! Just wanna know the reason cuz I 'm thinking about going there instead of bali after watching this clip.
It's not significantly less crowded. The well known spots are very crowded, perhaps marginally less than Bali. Perhaps the not well-known spots might be genuinely less crowded, but you would need a boat and the costs that go with it. I'm not sure whether this video is of a well-known spot on a slightly cross shore day or of a remote spot. What is true is that the Maldive reefs are more forgiving than Bali, but if Padang Padang is your thing don't go to the Maldives.
I'm currently working here in the Maldives on a yacht and we sail by the well known spots and they are very few surfing. A lot of the mornings and evenings I'm achored nearby I get to surf Cokes and Jailbreaks to myself. It's awesome here 👍

Dude! Amazing spot! I just love the vibe of away from the 5 star and chilling with the locals! Your reward ... solo waves! 😎👊

just got back from a trip in the southern atoll's, awesome place...which break was that?
How was the south compared to the other atolls?
@@christophercunliffe7346 un-crowded. Waves are great, but swell direction resulted in shorter rides than I think it can produce on better swells
Amazing
Nice
Looks like a long paddle out you reckon?

Isn't that just Cokes? And Chickens in the background?
Not truly alone cause someone is filming. But still sufficiently alone to know if something hungry comes along, you're it.
Dude...
🤮🤙🏾
Mus🎉 be lonely out there,,,
u never surf alone... the sharks are with you 😈
Drowning would be more of a risk than sharks.
Not so ecological to travel all over the world and defending the nature !!!! Non ?
I hate surfing alone it's creepy
