    I went to Maldives last year in april and surfed mainly Ninja's and Sultan. It is just amazing to seat in the water with such warm and crystal clear water, but it is true that you have to be careful with currents. We were several surfers who go caught by it at Sultan and luckily that the boat was there to pick us up...I went to Ninja's directly from the island and better go high tide and beware of urchins, several people didn't even started their surf session because of them...I got lucky

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows Год назад

      @MrPaulo1400 - You're right, the current at Sultans (especially on the inside) can be reasonably strong though I think we got lucky. I also didn't bother going from the island at Cokes because of sea urchins....not worth the risk.

    You ride barrels OK but have a lot of trouble with your W's. I really enjoyed your breakdown, very good advice for newcomers. Have actually forwarded this to a few friends. The only trouble with getting up with the sparrows is that it is known as "Sparrow F_rt Minus". Sun is stronger in Tassie in Oz

    I went to the Maldives for the first time and it was amazing surf! Had waves everyday. I wish someone would have told me about the currents because most days there was a crazy current to battle. And I didn’t know that it’s mostly right handers besides chickens is the most consistent public option for a left and it doesn’t work as consistently as the right hand breaks. I stayed for 12 days and only got to surf chickens 1 decent session. Great review overall! How did Maldives compare to your surfs in the ments? Is there a strong current?

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows Год назад

      @underwaterlifestyle - haha the currents can be pretty gruelling and yeah I did notice that Chickens doesn't seem to be as consistent as Coke's.
      In terms of a comparison to the Ments......it's similar in a way. Beautiful, clear water and lots of sun. However, the Ments has more variety (at least the Playgrounds area did), the waves offer more punch and the reef is a little more intimate at most places. I was actually really impressed by the surf in the Maldives, but I don't think many would argue that it's better than the Mentawais....though there aren't many places in the world that are! Currents are nowhere near as strong in the Mentawais, though they are noticeable at more exposed spots like Last Resort.

      @WiththeSparrows Год назад +1

      @SALT MY WOUNDS - sounds like you're one of the lucky ones that would have got to experience it empty. There's now a fancy resort on that island (and a famous English footballer was staying there when I was there). Always feels a bit weird when those worlds are bumping shoulders with the surf world.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows Год назад

      @nasri nehmeh - Sultans and Jailbreaks tend to be more manageable when Cokes is too big, though it's all much of a muchness. You'll just have to pray to the swell gods!

    Hey thanks for this great video! How would you compare or rank the spots Cokes, Sultan and Jailbreak in term of difficulty? (take off, speed)
    Went to Thulusdhoo in 2021 but did not have the chance to surf Jailbreak and I am considering it for later the month.

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows Год назад +1

      @Hugo Pons - glad you liked it and sorry if this it too late for your trip! Cokes is the hardest with Sultans second and Jailbreaks third, though I only surfed Sultans and Jailbreaks twice so don't take that as gospel! Sort of depends on where you take off though because both Cokes and Sultans have a really bowly end section. I'd try and surf all 3 (and chickens), I found it really easy to get stuck surfing Cokes because it was easy to just paddle out, but they're all really fun waves. Hope you score on your trip! Go snorkelling at the fish tank.....that was all really good.

    I'm trying to decide whether it would be better for me to stay on Himmafushi or Thulusdhoo (planning on going beginning of august). I'm a somewhat experienced surfer and it seems cokes is a better wave and could be less crowded but also more exposed to winds. I did some research and I think I can surf jails/sultans/honkys even if I don't stay near himmafushi by finding a boat that takes me there.
    what do you recommend I do?

    • @WiththeSparrows
      @WiththeSparrows Год назад +1

      @matteociccozzi2385 - can't speak for Himmafushi but I would say that Cokes is the better wave. I think you'll be good either way - getting boats around is pretty easy! Also, if you stay on Thulusdhoo you can access both a right and a left very easily (Cokes and Chickens) so potentially better variety there.
      Again though, I'm pretty sure that either option is a good call! Have you booked yet?
