***SPECIAL*** | MTA NYC Transit | MotivePower R255 Hybrid Locomotive

MTA New York City Transit is taking delivery of 25 battery hybrid-electric locomotives made by MotivePower Industries, starting with #HL002 on Thursday, May 16, 2024. These locomotives are designed to run on diesel power from storage yards to work sites and then switch to onboard batteries upon arrival at the jobsite for short moves while maintenance ad construction crews are working. This is designed to cut down on worksite emissions for worker and work train crew safety, reducing the need for work train operators to wear respirators due to the exhaust fumes from the diesel engine and/or the auxiliary generator.
