    Hmmm nice. Very well said. From what I’m seeing so far with the R68 and R68A train fleets, I’d say is that most of the Coney Island Yard R68 and R68A train sets seem ready for technological upgrades. Well, that’s just my idea and the idea I’m sticking for now until something else comes up. But anyways, keep up the good work there!

    That report on the R-68 and R-68A cars was clear and in-depth. I believe that the 75' long cars could be poised for replacement by the 60' long cars. That is one reason that the R-32 cars that were under Phase 2 should have never been replaced into the water reef. Otherwise, New York City Transit wasted millions of dollars by shipping the R-32, R-38, R-40, R-40M and the R-42 cars for renovation. The R-68 and R-68A cars are all right. The scrolled destination side signs are not the best fixtures. I like the digital signs. The ones on the R-46 cars are the least best signs installed on rolling stock. The 60' long cars are just right for the B-1 Division and the B-2 Division. They can easily navigate through somewhat steep curves that would be problematic for the longer trains.

Your videos are getting more and more professional-sounding, which made my desire to subscribe this channel. I hope this channel will one day grow. It’s a real shame that the clear railfan window on the R68/As shown on 3:20 became blurred. Do you know when the MTA started to add that? (My guess is the late 1990s).

    This is very informative. I was wondering why these cars haven't been upgraded. It's very annoying with the negligence of the R 68 on the D & B train. The florescent lights are gloomy they need replacement. The only thing that was replaced was the flooring. Otherwise the R 68 (Amrail) are on the borderline so, so. The R 68 A cars are bit better even tho they share the Bedford Park/ Concourse Yards in the Bronx, & Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York. On occasions both sets are used on the N, Q, W, G, FRANKLIN AVENUE SHUTTLE, on rare occasions on the A Train if you can catch them. 😮

Ideal replacement Should be 5 doors 75ft length just look at Hong Kong 75 MTR 75ft trains those have 5 doors which would give the same capacity and alight time as a 60ft train

    • @Matthews_Back
      @Matthews_Back 2 дня назад

      The cars did ran with the half cabs during its early years of service but when they eventually linked them into 4 cars, the half cabs stopped being used and the full cab ends were at the leading ends. It sucks tbh and since the half cabs were cramped for the motormen, thats why they probably decided to do that. Not to mention the half cabs did not have door controls from what i heard so full cabs were at the middle conductor’s position.
      Specifically the half cabs were for the motorman while the full cabs were for the conductor but the motormen did not like the cramped space.
      The franklin avenue R68s are still single sets but they don’t use the half cabs at all.

Maybe more data was collected and eventually it was decided to put out as many R32s in Jamaica as they could, especially on the E. They were noisy and less comfortable and surely discouraged some patronage among those who could use the F or other modes.
