Superb review!
Nice review just bought a 2018 S3 saloon. Love it !
is it expensive to maintain, problems, fuel?
@@mazalex2556 expensive to maintain £90 full tank gives you just over 200 miles, road tax was over £500 also had an issue with the rear diff so sold it couple months ago. Fun to drive yes but very costly
I picked up a 2017 F30 330I instead as insurance is cheaper for my age and able to get 45mpg. Tax was 600 in the first 5 years but now only 180 which is nice.@@emilybond1398
@@emilybond1398what are you talking about? Road tax is £180 and I get around 380 miles per tank (not driving too efficiently either)
@@emilybond1398250€ road taxes and 440miles per refill, idk what you've been doing wrong
I’ve had 3 GTI’s. Sick of the axle tramping. Love my Skoda Superb Sportline wagon. My S3 is in a different league altogether. Amazing how they perform differently with the same engine but different tunes of the gearbox and motor. The S3 is a tad lighter/compact as well making for much more enjoyable handling. The Skoda is the perfect family car though.
Agreed. Love my s3, does it all and very nice on the inside. Had an s1 for almost 2 years which was mapped but the s3 just seems a bit more grown up (at least at 21) only issue is the rep it can get likewise with the Golf R. I have a 17 plate and it’s still relevant today with the VC/ACC/B&O
Would love to know which 2.0tfsi engine has the best sound stock? Thanks for the reviews 🔥
I have a 2018 A3 2.0 tfsi quattro.
Thinking if I should upgrade to S3 or just chip my car?
Why not do the 30-70 in s? Doing it in m is always behind
Just so you know, halflife is a term which defines the length of time by which half a randomly chosen set of 'things' will decay, break etc. so after 14000 hours or whatever you quoted, 50% will break.
Either way, a long time!
This is the best s3
Is mag ride in all s3 or is it an upgrade
Ok so best all rounder ?
Golf r 7.5
A45 amg
Audi s3 8v
Audi rs3 8v
Great video! Out of curiosity what is the magride? is it like adaptive dampers
short for magnetic ride, it’s adaptive dampers but with a a faster response time basically.
Enjoyed the vid. I'm a new s3 driver and wondered how to get the single RMP dial on screen. Looks much better than RPM 1 side and MPH the other side.
Just press the view button on the steering wheel, will change the layout to the single centre rev counter
@ParagonCarsLondon I did try that. Didn't seem to give me an option. Can you do a video please?
I actually want the reverse of that. Having both gadges on either side, but large, not tiny little circles.
I’m looking at a s3, tts, m240i. I do 500 miles a week motorway driving to work and back but also do a fair bit of driving for fun around town.
Any advice on what to do?
S3 is the comfiest on the motorway but M240i is more fun.
Hi mate. Great review, I love your videos. Just wondering if you would still say that the TTS is a much nicer drive and better handling car than this S3?
Yes, the TTS feels quite a bit sharper than the S3. Like an S3 with a lot of handling mods is the way i'd describe it.
Having owned a MK3 TTS, I say with confidence they are much sharper than their hatchback/saloon counterparts.
Great review, how does the ride quality compare to same year cla45?
The Audi S3 has a softer ride
I'm completely torn between this and a golf R 7.5. I've been looking for months and i just cant split them. Has anyone driven both mapped/unmapped? I've watched both vids but still cant decide. I'm leaning toward the golf R as im a racer at heart but i much prefer the interior of the s3. Any advice would be appreciated
I’m struggling with the exact same!
same here broo 😅😢
Which cars would you say you can sit the lowest in? In terms of seat in the cabin
bmw
Be good to see what you think of a fn2 or ep3
we don’t often get stuff like that but will add to the list.
Does the s3 facelift come standard with adaptive dampers?
It's an optional extra. Worth getting though.
hi mate very nice review! Will the 2017 s3 go down in price in 2 years?
It will, by how much is what we can't predict though as there's currently a lot of demand for second hand cars due to chip shortages.
What does everyone think about the pulling power after 60mph? Would you say still strong?
yeah very strong for a 2.0l engine.
Agreed... Although, I have an S3 8V stage 1 380bhp. Pulls away effortlessly after 60mph
@@MyDistortedWorldtempted to map mine after my warranty runs out. Had a mapped s1 running 307bhp and that was quick so could imagine my s3 to be pretty quick at 370bhp +
Nice! What would you say is the best German hot hatch?
oof, that's a hard one. Best all rounder is the Audi RS3 although my personal favourite is the BMW M140i.
@@ParagonCarsLondon oo yer I bet the rear wheel drive would be fun in that!
I’m currently trying to decide between a 17 plate S3 and an 18/19 plate BMW M140i. The S3 is a lovely car that handles well but it just seems a little boring. Whereas the BMW M140i sounds so much better and a much more fun drive.
Anyone had experience of both, I’d like to hear your opinions.
go for the 140i. S3 is a great daily driver but the 140i is a lot more fun and just as easy to live with.
@@ParagonCarsLondon Thanks for the reply. I am definitely leaning more towards the 140i 👍
@@Michael-wk1kj I owned an m140i and selling it is my biggest regret, everyday was exciting with that little beast!
the seating position was a little annoying as being 6ft 2 I had to sit behind the b pillar, but the handling and insane power made it a riot, yet also sedate and smooth in comfort mode
@@Senninha1960 I actually ended up going for a 330i shadow edition in white. It’s a lovely car, looks the part but dam I always think I wish I had gone for the 330i. I think I’ll keep this for 3 years as I do love it and then maybe pick up a 140i or a 340i potentially.
Wish I had of gone for the 140i*
Does the MAG ride come as standard in these cars
Sadly it’s an option. Well worth having though.
My 2017 S3 sound system does not have a spare wheel and so has the subwoofer there.
In my opinion, the sound is exceptional.
The only direct comparison I have, is my wife's Leaf with Bose sound system.
I thought this was good, as prior to that I thought the standard Audi sound system in my 2017 Audi A4 was good!.
That said, with the road, engine, exhaust noise of the S3, then only way to appreciate it is to turn off the engine and park!.
I listen to music through the CarPlay system and USB connection. I use Spotify which has its own graphic equaliser to adjust bass and treble. So to compare apples with apples, I think it best to fully understand which base controls being used and how transmitted!.
If lacking mid range, I would enhance that through the Spotify EQ. Of course sound is subjective as no one can tell you what YOUR brain is registering!
Do you have the Audi Sound System or the B&O. Keen to know what the former sounds like and if good enough
@@BS-ge4ne I had the Audi sound system with subwoofer on my 2017 Audi A4. This was great, and I thought good enough. This was until I bought the 2017 S3 with B&O system. The B&O system is the best stereo I have ever had in a car
@ruf930porsche thanks for clarifying. Currently buying a 2017 s3 with the standard 'ASS'
@@BS-ge4ne I am sure you will love the car! Apparently these S3's are better than newer cars, better sounding exhausts and quicker as no exhaust filter. Happy Motoring!
@@ruf930porsche thanks very much! Seems like a car you can drive sedately and with minimal fuss or have a little more fun when feeling youthful again 😅
S3 facelift or golf r mk7.5
s3 is better but more expensive.
I must say, i find them dull to drive. They feel very ordinary most of the time and you could just be in a 1.5tsi.
B&0 sound system is pretty mediocre
No it's not, it's a very refined and great sound system.
@@rasmusjensen588 we have it in our Audi Q3 and it’s underwhelming
@@paulwilkinson3963 Compared to? Haven't had a car or tried one with a better sound system than the b&o in the s3, except one brand and I have driven 100+ cars.
I have had the upgraded system in bmw, Audi and Mercedes’ and Audi is definitely the best
@@JacK-yr8ri exactly, don't know what's he's on about. Probably mad that he didn't spec it, in the wifeys Q3 ;)
