Yes, supply and demand. Over the last several months, lots of people have told me that they have imitation Berkeys and have had no problems. I’m not ruling out trying another set someday
It seems that I heard that the ProPure are they best value because they have such a long service life. Berkey sells drops that keep the water pure. I can’t write the name though as it’s not allowed. But you can find it on Berkey’s website
I love when you share with us, how you fix the water filter and stuff. Oh Scott. I love the Sasquatch with his cup of coffee. Is that on your merch now? I'd love to order a sticker or coffee mug with it on it. Thanks Scott! Oh, I see the shirt and the sticker now.
Hi Scott very helpful information thank you for sharing I hope you found some time that day to make some lunch and get a little rest you looked tired. So good to see you though great content
Oh okay, I've always wondered how your buckets stayed together and water tight between the two. Cool, thanks for showing your setup, that's good information.
oh wow - good review. It's amazing how much ick is in city water and of course you're accessing multiple types of water sources. Your simple solution appears to work well.
I've been using the Doulton Ceramics for about a decade. I trust them over the knock offs since I can't test the water myself. At first, I got by with one candle at a time. Took longer to filter, but I was able to afford it. I want to take my filter in my van, but not sure where I can stash it. Travelling in a Grand Caravan with a cat and little dog. I'll have to find your other videos that show your set up. Water is so important. Thank you.
I like your filter setup. I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to have mine set up. I was looking at the LifeStraw pitcher.I appreciate your info. Thanks
Hi Scott, this was so awesome and helpful. I agree with you if you have gotten 2 years out of these new ones before then I would not class them as to expensive in my thoughts. I am so grateful for you and your tips. The other advantage is I trust your approach and advice in life. Thank you 😊
I have a Berkey in my class C for a few years. I also use the white Berkey filters that filter out fluoride (and other things), because of hypothyroidism . I’m very pleased! I have never noticed any slime…..🤮🤢investigation soon!
Berkey sells some drops that can be added to the top chamber that helps. It’s great to hear that you like the ceramic Berkey candles. I’ve heard differing opinions on them
I could definitely see the bouncing on the forest road being the cause to it coming loose from the base. I drove on a lot of rough paved country roads going to jobs and it has caused a lot of issues. Currently, a tie rod issue, sigh. I'm broke down but my mechanic stopped by and said I could drive local to make some money as long as I go slow and stay in town. I know you know how it feels. I don't live out of my car yet but I can't make money without it. Last time I was down a month and about lost my apt. But, I'm a survivor. Lol anyway, glad you did a review on these filters! Happy trails!
There's many concerns about Berkey quality, even lawsuits, no proven effectiveness. I would trust only reverse osmosis 😊, there are some portable options.
You stated the amount of time, months, the filters seemed to work satisfactorily. Any thoughts as to how many gallons filtered? Have you ever tested the filtered water to confirm the filters effectiveness? Do these new ceramic filters state the specific chemicals filtered out, by percentage?
I don’t have exact numbers but I generally drink 1 1/2 gallons of water/coffee per day. I’ve never had a test performed on the water. I’ve also never gotten sick from any water that was filtered. I believe Doulton has some detailed information about filter effectiveness on their website. It’s been a while since I’ve researched that aspect.
Hi Scott, appreciate your detailed videos. I'm out in Iceland traveling throughout the country, the water here is so pure no filters are needed. It's a shame what they put in our water back in the states...😢
I seen so many that say they work, but if we go with the costly way is it worth it.. will it in the long run be cheaper.. i try a way with cheeper ways and just wish I just spent the money..good luck bud..
👍🤩Thanks for the info on the filters. I’m a little bummed that I won’t be able to try the ceramic filters with my stainless steel Berkey because the filter diameters are bigger than the stainless steel holes. 😩
Oh are they? Berkey makes a ceramic filter too. The filters are a little different than the Doulton’s but very similar. I do think the regular black Berkey filters are the best. But that’s just my opinion
@@StaticCamperVan - I’m sorry for the confusion with my comment. Based on the fact that you had to make the holes bigger, I was thinking they would be too big for the holes in my stainless steel Berkey.😂 🤷🏻♀️
Oh. I think the knock-offs are a different size. I just thought it was funny when I realized it since I had just said that the dimensions were the same
Hi Scott, what great timing for me to see this video! I am considering a 2nd hand Berkey for 150.! After seeing this I may attempt a diy. Did you use BPA free plastic for yours? Thank you!
I have the smallest Berkey filter system. This video is motivating me to clean it and the filters today, which has been on my to-do list for awhile now; it’s a chore that I hate doing! Also, the outside of my Berkey always has smudges and water spots on it, so I decided to use your idea to use WD40 on the outside. Thanks for the tip! 👍🏻
Road vibration is pretty awful. I’ve been thinking that a piece of foam the same diameter as the water container with holes to fit over the top of the filters might protect the filters. I just found a berkefield big Berkey at our local Restore. Now it’s worth making something to protect the filters.
It’s just a guess, but I think the authentic Berkey filters are much better made the knockoff filters. An old roommate transported her Berkey filter to Central America and back with no problems whatsoever. I’ve been using Daulton filters with no problems as well. So it’s a good bet that production quality is the real issue here.
