Jay Leno’s Projects in Progress | 7 Litre Ford Galaxie Restoration | Unique Vintage Engines

On this episode of My Classic Car, we're having a play day with some of the toys in Jay Leno’s Shop. We start off with a project that is near and dear to Jay. He’s rebuilding a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500, kicked up from his dad’s 428 rocket ship, and this baby will be able to launch into orbit. With its 511 cu.in. Roush racing engine and Tremec 6-speed transmission combo, this one year only 7 Litre luxury now pushes nearly 600HP. Just wait until you hear Jay’s story of how his Dad wound up with such an unassuming beast of a car.
Then we get a rare look at the engine from a 1907 White steam car. This compact little motor was capable of creating 30HP in 1907, which was incredibly powerful for the time. With only 2-cylinders, this technologically advanced engine could move a White Steamer down the road at nearly 50mph!
After that we check out a completely different type of advanced engine; a wild homemade Blown V4 that alternates between 2-stroke and 4-stroke. It’s a crazy cool concept, and how Jay ended up in possession of this massive motor is one of the most interesting parts.
Last but not least, we get to fire up one of these cool vintage motors. The Ericsson Hot Air engine operated off the Sterling Principle to move a single piston and ultimately pump water. With some hard work and a bit of playing in the rain we’ll get this pump running.
