The transition from the verse to the chorus is insane and requires perfect breathing to pull off for any singer, live onstage. Probably one of the most demanding songs any vocalist can perform. Matt did great here.
Wow, he can still scream like a madman! Both Matt and Ripper are amazing singers, and they did stellar jobs during their respective eras with the band. But to me, Matt will always be THE voice of Iced Earth. It's very sad that he left again, but I can't blame him because he decided to put his role as a family man above everything else, and you gotta respect anyone that does that.
@HellsAsylum i agree with you man. Owens did indeed add a special and unique element to iced earth when Barlow left. In my opinion Tim is a great vocalist, and so is Barlow..but they are simply not comparable. They have very different, but powerful voices. They both made Iced Earth there own.
Been watching this for years all these years.......Barlow let it all go for this show knowing he didn't have any upcoming voice to save....he even pitched a little sharp at times to show that he could hit Ripper's notes and then some. Well done and love me some Troy Seele....
On the Rock Hard Festival 2008 (sadly I've only found it on the Festivals of the Wicked DVD, not here on YT), he totally exaggerated on Ten Thousand Strong. He has hit the highest note on the intro of all 3 singers.
@MParseface38 I simply don't understand why people are hating on Tim Owens so much. I understand that Matt is a fan favorite kinda like Bruce Dickinson is considered by many to be THE voice of Iron Maiden. But IMO Tim is an awesome singer, both in terms of range and emotion. Besides, Jon let Matt go in 2003, so what was he to do? He had to find a singer and, as far as im concerned, Tim was a perfect fit and he did a great job on both The Glorious Burden and Framing Armageddon.
Barlow struggles that mid-range during the verse and the chorus...He did great on the high ones at 2:58 though this is an Owens song from the begging to the end... Barlow,Owens and Block are Phenomenal...whatever singer it is,this is Iced Earth!
Yeah I know, I have commented before but can you find anyone with vocals like Barlow that can hit that register that doesn’t have a falsetto like Ripper? Barlow simply sings this balls out in his range and talent, doing it to the top of his register, period, the end. Magnificent work and will always respect Matt for this full on vocal performance complimenting a falsetto guy (love you Tim) and nailing it!!!!’🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@yoyojoe22 What I meant was that Barlow sounds like he's gonna rip his vocal chords and doesn't really have the power to hold these notes. Although he manages to do it despite their range difference, he is definitely not doing it better than Owens. That's a ridiculous statement.
@TheHumanCondition09 And putting no effort in your singing is a good thing? The reason he is straining is because they have different ranges. The fact that he can sing it at all without going falseto is impressive, singing it that well is mind blowing.
@MParseface38 Really? He is sharp on quite a few notes, especially the last one. Nice tone though. Tim has far better control on his highs but Matt has *incredible* low/mid notes and is a far more creative singer.
dude. its obvious that matt is the better singer all around. you cant say the dude cant sing high because he hits shit like dracula and travel in stygian like its novice shit. its clear his voice was on the fritz after 25 years of wailing that hit happens. you can see them in matal camp with barlow and he nails it. or alive in athens. hes got super low. low. mid. high. super high. soft. rough. what more do you need? hes a fucking four octave singer.
Stu looks like a little girl screaming on this one. He sing too high. Barlow have more intensity and a powerful "painful ghost voice". I'm a singer and I observed each singer very well, and for this song it's Barlow. It comes from his deep more than the others.
@HellsAsylum don't get me wrong, i like the ripper too, but i don't think he's suited to sing the IE-classics. i've seen him with yngwie malmsteen and dio disciples and he did a fantastic job.
you do know that Barlow didn't write this song even though it might be at the top of his range he is still the voice of Iced earth and ripper has nothing on him!!!!!!! BARLOW FOREVER!!!!
They should have lowered the key for Barlow to sing more powerfully in his range. They prob tried but lowering the key but sometimes it alters the songs feel too much. His high pitching sounds great but Barlow shines in the low register songs!
This is a Tim "Ripper" Owens IE song...Matt just doesn't sound right for this song...Both are awesome, but it would be like Halford singing Priest songs from Jugulator or Demolition...just not the same...Tim is Unique...he can sound like the others, but they can't sound like him...if that makes sense
I see why Schaffer had to replace Barlow. Matt is in over his head here and he struggles with the range a lot. If he was handed these songs as they sound on the album, I see why he wanted out. I played Glorious Burden after Something Wicked the other day. Something Wicked is much more bassy, the songs must be in a lower key.
@MParseface38 Nope, Ripper is the more skilled singer. He's very, very good, but Barlow has the better voice, a special voice which touchs your soul and that makes him so popular.
Barlow does a good job but his voice does not have the power that Tim has. Good thing he only has to sing 1 song that Tim did or he blow out his voice.
In which part of the song he is out of tune? Because I can't really find one. Ripper actually sings this live lower than Matt does. Matt does an amazing job here. This is a song, that you don't have time to breathe.
Best performance of this song of all time
The transition from the verse to the chorus is insane and requires perfect breathing to pull off for any singer, live onstage. Probably one of the most demanding songs any vocalist can perform. Matt did great here.
Matt is the best singer in the history of Iced Earth.
Best singer in the history of Earth 🤘🏼😇
Wow, he can still scream like a madman! Both Matt and Ripper are amazing singers, and they did stellar jobs during their respective eras with the band. Thank you so much for uploading! I totally missed the live stream. The passing of an era!
What a difficult song to sing
@MParseface38 I simply don't understand why people are hating on Tim Owens so much. I understand that Matt is a fan favorite kinda like Bruce Dickinson is considered by many to be THE voice of Iron Maiden. But IMO Tim is an awesome singer, both in terms of range and emotion. Even if for me Tim Owens is the best Iced Earth singer ever, I have to admit that Barlow sings this song awesome. As good as the Ripper!
Probably the Best rendition of barlow on this song!!!!
Metal Beasts
Barlow struggles that mid-range during the verse and the chorus...He did great on the high ones at 2:58 though this is an Owens song from the begging to the end...
Barlow,Owens and Block are Phenomenal...whatever singer it is,this is Iced Earth!
Me encanta el tema \m/

loved to be there :)
This was Barlow's last show... and this is one hell of a good show to go out with
Melhor versão, Matt destruiu muito e os demais membros perceberam!
I assumed ripper was better than barlow, but watching a bunch of both live, barlow has a much more powerful voice
he sang Declaration Day and Ten Thousand Strong way better than Owens
@yoyojoe22 What I meant was that Barlow sounds like he's gonna rip his vocal chords and doesn't really have the power to hold these notes. Although he manages to do it despite their range difference, he is definitely not doing it better than Owens. That's a ridiculous statement.
I was there in front row, fucking amazing!!
2:57 powerful Notes.
@TheHumanCondition09 And putting no effort in your singing is a good thing? The reason he is straining is because they have different ranges. The fact that he can sing it at all without going falseto is impressive, singing it that well is mind blowing.

Porco Dio . La POTENZA

Tell this shit to Halford!
halford already knows. theres some terrible sounding live shows of him, even though hes still great at singing
Stu does the best live of any of them on this track
Stu looks like a little girl screaming on this one. He sing too high. Barlow have more intensity and a powerful "painful ghost voice".
I'm a singer and I observed each singer very well, and for this song it's Barlow. It comes from his deep more than the others.
You can't explain that to idiots, spare the words my man.
i feel like beating the crap out of myself for not being able to see Matt when they came here on the Crucible of Man tour :,(
@MParseface38 Some songs were MADE for Ripper but Barlow IS Iced Earth.
@MParseface38 He actually sounds like hes straining a lot. While Tim Owens does this with no effort.
@HellsAsylum
don't get me wrong, i like the ripper too, but i don't think he's suited to sing the IE-classics. i've seen him with yngwie malmsteen and dio disciples and he did a fantastic job.

stu block sings this right? owens did a biiiig work here
at 2:58 even the last ripper fan has to admit that he doesn't stand a chance against barlow.
BARLOW THE BEST OF ALL
ripper is ripper and barlow is barlow imo
@noexistence11 you have to see a doctor for your ears
holyfuck is that barlow with small hair???????????
@MParseface38
Nope, Ripper is the more skilled singer. He's very, very good, but Barlow has the better voice, a special voice which touchs your soul and that makes him so popular.
Iced Earth fans. Whining about Matt Barlow since 2003.
@AMiGR667 Better sharp than flat :)
Barlow is better than Ripper here.. wowww 💪💪💪
Barlow is good, but Ripper is 100000000000000000000000 times better, that can not be denied!
Nicolas Ramos no😑
ripper is great
come on man! clean up the stuff in your ears! ok. I adore Barlow but Ripper is way better on high notes, even live.. watch it: watch?v=w_LDDnV735o
People are going to hate me... But I prefer Owens... sorry
Barlow does a good job but his voice does not have the power that Tim has. Good thing he only has to sing 1 song that Tim did or he blow out his voice.
rippers screams are way better
Barlow is so out of tune xD They should play it lower. It's to high for him.
In which part of the song he is out of tune? Because I can't really find one. Ripper actually sings this live lower than Matt does. Matt does an amazing job here. This is a song, that you don't have time to breathe.
Κώστας Βουρτζούμης Right at the end of the last verse before the chorus sets in and on the last note.
Ripper way better!
